when i get a lead, i message it back then I call them immediately. Its a sort of race. Time and time again I have seen that whoever contacts the person first has a much higher chance of booking them.

Thanks for explaining this. I am disappointed because I am pretty sure that Thumbtack was much different in the past. For someone like me who only wants to make some side money in retirement, it makes no sense for me to get charged for leads. I wish they charged only when booked. Very bummed.

Yeah makes sense! There’s different ones that are like this. You should check out Bark: www.bark.com/sellers/create/?trk_referrer=referral-id-2008646&trk_s=link This is one where you can view majority of the info and then if you like it, purchase the lead but it doesn’t charge you anything until you choose that lead.

Unfortunately Thumbtack is not what it used to be :( The leads which were $10-20 are how $50+ for portrait sessions and much more for events

yeah its definitely gone up, but then again, so has everything. Maybe time to raise your prices as well :)

Its insane some of the bid prices I have seen for all trades. Small handyman job for $150 costs the pro $65 for instabid. 14 pros were contacted and none were hired. The pro who posted it had that day off the calendar and the job was a 2 hour drive away. No refund. $910 dollars for Thumbtack with no one hired. This is beyond being a service and more of a legal? robbery.

Do we need a work permit to qualify for a background check for thumbtack?

i dont believe so, but you might legally for the work depending on what the work is.

Great info That's exactly how I use thumbtack I just want to get that customer info. Even if we don't make no money on the first job but we have a customer for life and if you do a great job tha5 $20,$30 lead just turned into thousands of dollars. We've had customers put us on their neighborhood list of contractors. We had several customers call us back after they went with another contractor because that contractor did a bad job. Thumbtack is a tool , if you don't use it properly of course it won't work for you

Scumbtack is a scam. I am getting charged for leads while the website won't let me reply to the customers. There is currently no phone number to call to talk to a representative and I cannot even log in to turn my services off. Keep this in mind before signing up.

@@simonmcdermott-johnson8585 only "Top Pros" get phone support now . They are also listed first in search with pretty similar pricing previews that are often low. Search for "best portrait photographers in Clearwater FL" click the thumbtack link and compare to "Cheapest portrait photographers in Clearwater FL" At least the Thumbtack page uses the word affordable rather than cheapest which they used to rank #1 on google. Getting your foot in the door now versus years ago is going to be much harder and very expensive with the insane instabid crap they started.
