I’m Asian American and my parents are Asian immigrants. I am so blessed and grateful that my parents have been telling me they love me ever since I was a child. It is so important for us humans to hear those words “I love you” and “I’m proud of you”, and I hope new generation Asians also say these loving words to their children. It truly makes a difference in your mental health. I’m 28 years old and my parents and I still say “I love you” to each other after we see each other or get off the phone. Some people don’t say it enough and you just never know if it’ll be your last time hearing those words being said. To be vulnerable is a beautiful thing.

A fun fact is that the Chinese version of "I love you" didn't exist till last century after the import and translation of western litterature and films. As a Chinese, I've never really heard of " I love you" be said around me except on the TV.

I CRINGED SO HARD WATCHING THIS.... I seriously get how awkward it is and omg if Terry told me to do this I would've just gotten up and left the room. LMAO. I mean.. it's even awkward giving my dad cards that say "I love you" on them too lol.. and yeah he doesn't say it either.. he'll read it and then just say "thank you" and then move on lolololol But yeah... in Asian culture it's true... we just show it through meaning or we just know the love is there. That was very sweet. I remember saying I love you to my Irish father for the first time as an adult when I was 21. We had clashed and fought a lot when I was younger and I had come back from living in London for a year with the intention of putting that all behind us. As I prepared to leave and go back to London I went and hugged him and told him I loved him. I still recall the startled look on his face when I did it. It became easier after that and by the time he died we had become quite comfortable saying it to each other, him often saying it before me in the end.
