When I was a young child being raised by my mother, she worked at a pub. She was unable to afford a babysitter for me after school, so I would wait for some time in the pub. Every day the entire pub would stop whatever they were doing so that I could watch Thunderbirds. This is the most nostalgic episode you've ever done. For me at least.

I saw this movie looooong ago as a kid. Even then the whole dream sequence completely baffled me. It's also about the only part of the movie I actually remembered before watching this review. I did actually really get into Captain Scarlet And The Mysterons years ago, it's a great show with some really surprisingly dark and violent moments for what's ostensibly a kids show. The CGI remake they did in the 2000's was pretty good as well.

I'd say Captain Scarlet (the original series, not the later CG series) still holds up, especially since the run time of it being (roughly) 30 minutes helps episodes get to the point whereas Thunderbirds had to make events fit over to about an hour, not to mention, the puppets were closer to looking more human-like in appearance, I'd even say it's the better show between it and Thunderbirds, but that's just opinion.

All clothing for the puppets where designed by Sylvia Anderson, Gerry´s wife and the whole uniform thing was actually very typical for the 1960s, seeing as various organizations at that time had uniforms and it was also meant as sort of a trademark for International Rescue. As for The Shadows in there: thats because in earlier shows, specifically the show Stingray, they had an episode, making fun of bands/singers like Cliff Richards because Anderson was not a fan of such things at first......however, he later changed his mind on that and thought that episode was overly mean spirited and because stuff like this was popular with the kids, he asked his almost next door neighbor Cliff Richards if he didnt want to take part in the movie , who was thrilled to be in it and really liked his puppet.
@LtHavoc19837 жыл бұрын
Right! I totally forgot about that part. She was a big part of many productions, she would help create the look of the Angels in Captain Scarlet and would also design the clothing in UFO. Without her, many Gerry Anderson shows would not be the same.

YAY!!!!!!!!! MORE STORY ARC OF THE SLEEPWALKER(Must be called that since, Linkara was a Sleeper agent for the Entity/Missingno) How in the World will Linkara pull it off; Now that He's aware of the Entity, The Entity cannot control him anymore like he HAS for the Majority of the Story Arc, but How would the Entity be dumb enough for Linkara to Manipulate into being trapped in a Pocket Dimension?!!
@stevengarcia57207 жыл бұрын
I'm guessing Vyce himself is going to have to hold the entity in the pocket dimension somehow after something goes wrong with the plan, which in my mind is why he explained he wouldn't be able to teleport out, hope not though, I'd like to see him in or be the reason for the contest of champions, but I can see him going out taking down the Entity, and honestly I would be ok with that.

Back when they existed, TechTV used Thunderbirds as lineup filler with essentially director's commentary notes. For a cheesy British puppet show, it was pretty fun. Not as crazy as Star Fleet, but Go Nagai made Star Fleet and that dude is nuttier than a pecan log.

@LtHavoc19837 жыл бұрын
Interesting you mention Star Fleet, because Go Nagi loved Thunderbirds so much that it inspired him to do a similar show that became Star Fleet. What is interesting is, that at the time Go Nagi made Star Fleet, Gerry Anderson was doing Terrahawks and both shows would use a new technique to control the puppets, where instead of string, they would be controlled from below ala Jim Henson muppets. That way the puppets could be much more dynamic and could be moved much better. To this day, Go Nagi is very fond of Star Fleet, so much so that in a interview a few years ago he said if he would get the chance, he would love to re-do Star Fleet, with puppets but enhanced with CGI, basically how the intended 2004-2005 Thunderbirds reboot was supposed to be.

6:06 I read that as "Super Mario Nation." Now, I'm imagining a game where the Marios of various alternate dimensions/timelines (like Dr. Mario, Paper Mario, Baby Mario, and Jumpman) are somehow brought together in one place. You play as the main Mario, of course, who has to rally them up and utilize their different abilities against the game's villain. With DLCs, you can play as those other Marios SSB-style. With the nature of this premise, you'd think Wario would be the main villain, but no. He just works under the main villain, so you'll have to fight him and maybe bring him over to your side. No, the main villain is braceyourselfyou'renevergonnabelievethis *BOWSER!* How? I dunno. Then the production team will scrap the idea halfway through and turn it into a Pikmin sequel.

@AT4W7 жыл бұрын
I don't know the exact scale of the Thunderbirds, buuuut I suspect just being cheeky - Comicron One is supposed to be 15 levels high at the very least.
@ZBot3167 жыл бұрын
I just looked up the scale for Thunderbirds 1 and 2. According to Wikipedia: T1is 115 ft (35 m) long, 80 ft (24 m) wide, and 115 ft (35 m) tall. T2 is 250 ft (76 m) long, 180 ft (55 m) wide, and 60 ft (18 m) tall. For perspective, T1 is slightly smaller than a Boeing 747, while T2 is about 20% bigger than one. I highly doubt Comicron 1 is smaller than T1, so, yeah, cheeky. I imagine that Comicron 1 is about half the size of a cruise ship, give or take. Way bigger than T1 and T2 that's for sure. But hey, the title card is cool.

Have you ever seen *Doppelganger* or *Saturn 3?* Doppelganger used Supermarionation effects and both films were brought to the screen by Lord Grade, who also brought *Thunderbirds Are Go* to the screen. Lord Grade was the CEO of ITC and ATV and his company had a lot of experience of working with puppeteers, first they worked with *Gerry Anderson,* then gave *Jim Henson* his break with *The Muppet Show* when no American network would buy his show and then, if we count Central Independent Television as a continuation of ATV/ITC (and I do) *Spitting Image* came afterwards where puppets got into satire (and I think we could do with a return of *Spitting Image)* So yeah, there would have been a lot of very experienced puppeteers and practical effects people in and around Birmingham and Elstree. Wonder if they're still around...

I think I know what this will all lead to. I remember what Linkara reviewed just before he defeated the Entity the first time, and I remember a sequel to that book containing a similar idea in capturing a powerful, dangerous monster, much like what Linkara, his allies, and Vice are trying to do to the Entity. In other words, I have a hunch as to what Linkara will be reviewing in the finale of this arc. For a moment there, when Linkara was face-to-face with Vyce, I thought they were gonna shake hands simply because both of them know the Entity is too big a threat and they need to team up, albeit temporarily, and set aside their longtime animosity for a moment. However, Linkara is too cool for hand shakes.

I still say that you might wanna try out replacing the red background for video clips with a Comicron monitor banner, maybe having random gizmos, doodads, or blinking lights to throw off ContentID. Might make things look a bit more streamlined in the show.

lol back when the Sic Fi Channel first started out it showed Thunderbirds late late at night like at 2am. Many a summer night staying up till dawn also introduced me to the Ewok cartoon and Robotec.

I wanna let you know Linkara, I absolutely love Vyce in this arc. Too often I feel like they bring back villains in stories that have no reason to come back other than "Was an Iconic Villain". No reason to fight at all. Of course Vyce did come back that way, but well... a reason. And honestly the team up is a great dynamic that I wish more series would think of. Yeah, it's an existential threat, why wouldn't people who both are interested in dealing with it not team up as it were, you know? Instead of well, what they usually do in stories of having the old villain pulling a Midboss as he just goes "Ah ha, the hero is distracted, now I can win!" I mean you'd think for more writers they'd at least think of the "But existence is where I keep all my stuff!" excuse. Or at the very least, "I'm not letting you conquer the world, I'M going to conquer the world and if I have to team up with my enemy to make sure I get the shot later, I'm going to do it!"

Random fact, Zero-X later appeared in the first episode of Captain Scarlet with it being the space craft that brought Captain Black and the other crew members to Mars where they eventually found The Mysterons.

So how much for another Patreon episode taking a look at the entire first season of Thunderbolt Fantasy? Because that series has puppet animations that blow away even a lot of live-action kungfu films.

Intresting fact, Thunderbirds was so popular in Japan where famed mangka Go Nagai created a series in the style of Thunderbirds called X Bomber. The series in turn got a UK produced English dub retitled "Star Fleet", that lead to Brian May of Queen famed recorded a song for it. kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z2e4qqN3hLqAjs0

I thought the hand thing was a joke on Super Adventure Team. Also, anyone reminded by the dream sequence of "Design for Dreaming"?

So here's a question. If he hadn't gotten his foot stuck and screwed up the launch, was the Hood planning on going to Mars? Also, was right after launch really his best opportunity to take pictures?

I'm guessing he would have escaped much like we saw him do so - parachute out of a hatch. His second plan... not sure what the hell he would have done there.

I guess, more to the point, is what was the point of all that. Is it just padding? The whole thing just seemed superfluous. It's not like they couldn't have found another reason to call in International Rescue. The whole thing feels like one of those "movies" where they piece together multiple unrelated episodes of a TV show and try to come up with a coherent plot. They tended to do that in the lat 60's/early 70's.

The video hitched up just towards the end while I was watching. I thought, "Oh wow, what bold new direction is the story going to go in? Has The Entity taken control of the feed?" Nah, my PC just blue-screened. Still, great episode.

Hey, quick question about the second part of the story segments. Why does it have to be Linkara going over? wouldn't it be possible and probably safer to send over a group of cybermats or possibly Polo in one of his other bodies? I mean those are expendable at least and could be protected using that program you have. I'm just saying stick with a safer option and if those fail send yourself over.

Lack of opposable digits on the robots and the ship is protected from remote interface, mostly as safety precautions set up from both previous remote-accesses (like when Vyce invaded Comicron One) and when Linkara thought the others were betraying him.

You missed a great opportunity for an obscure joke, at 23:00 - "Changing to Channel 4" "Wait a moment, Control. Channel 4 won't be broadcasting for almost twenty years... How did *you* know about it?" en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Channel_4 for an explanation

Pausing at 2:54 for my predictions: The reason that the Entity has not taken over Earth has something to do with the chess game. Either it found the game enjoyable and is now actually thinking about what it will do once it accomplishes its goal, or the fact that Linkara beat it is freaking it out.
