I wish I had some suggestions. The IBM Thunderbolt chip needs those connectors to function at the full 40gb speed.

@@PE4Doers Yeah, I have the same case. My only gripe with it was maybe I should have gotten the mATX version (along with a mATX mobo) back when I built my computer. Then again, modern cases are gigantic by comparison, so my cube case isn't actually horrible to haul around

Yes, a standard USB will work just fine, but at the slower speeds of either USB5 (or USB2) depending on your USB speed.

hi, computer noobie here:))) i was wondering what are the names of the cables that you meed for this PCie card? and are they bought separately?
@PE4Doers27 күн бұрын
They are referred to as PCIe power cables and they come with your power supply. If you did not build the system, or no longer have those cables, then you should reach out to the manufacturer of the power supply to purchase replacements. DO NOT use any cables from another model power supply manufacturer - the pinning can be different and you could damage your system.
@postyouu27 күн бұрын
@ thanks so much for the answer! i just saw in the part 1 video that the asus thjnderbolt comes with some cables…are those the cables i need?
@PE4Doers27 күн бұрын
@@postyouu Yes, they are needed, along with the six-pin part of a PCIe cable to your Power Supply. Also, you need to have a motherboard that supports the card with all the required connectors.

Hi, I have the same card. Works great with a TB3 Raid. I've bought a similar enclosure to yours (has the ASM2464PD chip instead of ASM2364PD. It only works at 10gbps. It's USB4 compatible with TB4 but doesn't work at 40gbps. What should I do? What I'm missing? I have drivers installed. Thanks!!!

Perhaps you should have used a Casio thunderbolt case; sometimes an OWC dock will increase your speed.

Possibly, I will look into that.
@DanielRodriguez-fg5ll5 ай бұрын
one question. the manual says that the 6=pin is only if you want the card to power devices connected to it. is that your understanding too? I just want to connect some OWC Raid boxes.
@PE4Doers5 ай бұрын
Sort of - that extra current capability will provide up to four times the amount of power to the devices plugged in to the USB-C connectors. Even without it, power will be provided, but it's light a 'fast' charger rather than an 'average' charger, and can support full power to larger devices (like a small to medium sized laptop).

is there a way to try that Thunderbolt card on an MSI motherboard and check if it is working because i want to buy one so badly but i have an MSI board
@PE4Doers2 ай бұрын
Does your MSI motherboard support the addition of a Thunderbolt add-on card? I know some non-ASUS MBs do have that support. Without the special connector (and more important some addition LSI chips supported by the BIOS, I cannot see how you could get it to work. I suspect if you install one, it will simply perform line any USB-C 3.2 device (10gb Max speed).

I noticed you installed sodtware/drivers from CD/DVD. Did you check to see if there were updated deivers from their website? Im curious about whether updated drivers would enable more performance. Also, last i looked at TB adapters for PC, they were pretty specific to the motherboard. Is there a BIOS/UEFI setting that needs to be enabled or changed?
@PE4Doers8 ай бұрын
Great questions Jeremy. The driver CD I used exactly matches what is on the ASUS Website file-to-file, including date to date. There is however a new firmware for the unit available on that site as well, but the Read-me file is somewhat confusing and concerns me. Here it is word for word (including spelling): “TBTFwUpdateToolEfi V1.3 is Update PD and Thunderbolt Firmware Tool for THUNDERBOLTEX 4 Add in card ※Please note that this motherboard must be supported [ThunderboltEX 4] add in card and should be confirmed thunderbolt function had work properly Update step 1.Please extract the TBTFwUpdateToolEfi V1.3 file and copy it to a USB Drive. 2.insert USB Drive on motherboard 3.press the [Power key] then press and hold the [F2] into BIOS setup meun 4.Click[Advanced mode] 5.Select [Exit] and [Launch EFI Shell from USB drive] into shell mode for update process” I will do some more research and try to understand this update tool more before I try it, and I may make a video about it as long as it doesn’t ‘brick’ my card. Also, I believe I showed the Motherboard BIOS settings needed to support the device, and I did not think anything there could affect the performance.🥴

thanks again. I got it working, yet, I am having an issue that the TB4 is not detected at boot, so for instance, I have my keyboard and mouse connected to a hub and then to the TB4 in the card, but I cannot for instance, get into BIOS using the keyboard and even after the windows screen, it takes a several seconds for the keyboard to be recognized. any chance you know if there is a setting to make the card more readily available at boot?
