Thank you for this video, I installed an HEI distributor from Southwest Performance, worked great for a year, now with no spark, bought their TUNEUP Kit and still no spark, I sent them several emails in the past 2 weeks and no reply, phone number listed is disconnected. So i pulled out my old distributor and going back to points. Never again after markets. You showed me how to go back to original. Thank you fellas, oh by the way, my truck is an 1969 Ford F250, with IL6 240ci engine.

My father inherited a '82 Ford truck from my grandfather, and like you, the local auto parts store couldnt help with anything of that age.spent a lot of time searching for answers and troubleshooting.started watching your videos and you released a lot of secrecy for my truck and you're a intelligent 🧠 young man and thank you thank you ...ported is definitely the way to go. 351w 400 heads. Totally amazing.

I am working on a forklift and have never done a points ignition before, but manually grounding the coil to make it spark was the trick I needed to troubleshoot this thing and I managed to get it working. Thank you.

@CommanderKlag4 жыл бұрын
Cant't see it, where was that wire specificly hooked up at that you were arking to make the sparkplug fire? I couldent tell without altrady knowing how to do the test. Please don't assume people know anything. Because sometimes a specific procedure is completly new to them. No one knows everything, and no one always will know all the basics, thats why they struggle to understand what you are attempting to communicate. That coil test is very simple to do. But if you don't know what wires are going to a specific location and you dont know the procedure. How can you go pottie ?

Sir, I just got a 1968 F500 with 300 inline six. For some reason the previous owner unbolted the valve cover but it appears to have new(old) distributor cap, rotor, and points and wires and maybe spark plugs. I still need to pull out the spark plugs and test for spark.

Can you tell me what the capacitance (in uF) of the condenser is? I got one years ago and it measured either 0.2uF or 2uF, I can't remember which (and my capacitance meter was junk). Is this in the ballpark? Thanks much,

seem to be a common prob.with (spark) usuall that is caused by wrong condenser installed mant consenser look just alike but the are wound diff inside they come in diff micrfared values to work correct they must match the coil electricly very old dealer manuals for proper condenser # of original the cross ref todays equivlant with correct condenser the spark should jump 3/4 of an inch with eng idiling pull a plug wire off insert screwdriver hold close to eng how far will jump1/4 or less not good if close to 3/4 inch very good whi changed mine it went from 1/8 in to 3/4 inch big diff.worth looking into

No one owns a cheap set of feeler gauges in this day and age ? all the auto part stores carry them under $5, stop messing around and set your points accurately (business cards and matchbook covers are ‘side of the road, makeshift methods at best !).

ive tried everything in this video and replaced most of my ignition system at this point (spark plugs, Spark plug wires, points, condenser and coil) still cant get spark if anyone has any suggestions or ideas please let me know im about to go crazy P.S. it's for a 1967 ford thunderbird V8 390

.... dumb question, but do you have 8-12v even getting to the coil. Remember, classic car owners aren’t parts changers, they are diagnosticians

I took out Pertronix I install 100 miles ago in my 1972 2.0 Pinto and put points back in because the car was back firing, tac jumping up and down, I'm just done with that after market crap. Car runs awesome again on points, Now I'm trying to get them to just refund me for it, Hassle. I'm making a youtube on the whole ordeal. ?? I ran my pinto around the block a few times with the 40,000 volt Flamethrower coil part# 40511 that came with the pertronix as a kit USING THE POINTS and it seems peppy, But I'm hearing on some google sites that it's not good to run a hot coil like that with points. because it will burn your points faster. I'm putting the Stock Pinto coil I have from the 70s back in because of what I'm reading about the hot coil no no. ANY BODY WANT TO CHIME IN ON HOT WITH POINTS???
