A lot of trial and error. It's definitely been a journey! If you have any tips, please share :)

I love kaffir limes and the leaves. contemplating growing them, but I’m not sure I can deal with the bugs. Btw. This is very therapeutic to watch. The voice is very soothing too! Guess I’ll just settle for this.

A tip. If you have too many, May I suggest donating a few to a conversatory? By doing so, you could contribute to the preservation of the kaffir lime and let it grow in a environment that is more compatible with where it came from.

I grow kaffir lime seedlings and noticed that yours are quite small for being over 1 yr old. They will grow bigger and have multiple branches if they're in a bigger pot. Repot them into a 1/2 gal 6" deep pot. You can also give some high nitrogen fertilizer or Citrus fertilizer to help it grow. To prevent spider mites, spray with neem oil (pre-mix or concentrated and follow instructions). Good Luck! Btw, I'm going to try your wing recipe. Looks so delicious 😋.

I totally agree. They are really small for their age. The repotting is a good idea. I kept them in this size pot for now because I don't have much space at the moment but this will be a nice project for me in the spring. Thanks for sharing this. Very helpful! ☺️ Enjoy the wings!

Hi, my bought one is small, due to being a Dwarf plant, still produces enough for our Red Curries.

My guess is, it is mainly the excess light missing indoors (including UV-light), why the new sprouting leaves only show the reddish colour outdoors. The Anthocyan molecules are also suggested by some scientists to be a part of the protection system of young leaves from insects and deers by chemical defense, through high concentrations of tannins and anthocyanins. I guess, as Anthocyanins are not of bitter taste, there is an additional mechanism: As they are more built in young leaves from sugar molecules, so - where the sugar transport is still not as effective as in older leaves - it might also be a way to trigger the sugar-concentration in cells down, which also may make them less palatable to herbivors, as they would be, otherwise. An important side effect in my view could be, that the falling sugar concentration and rising Anthocyanin concentration in young leaves also serves like a storing system for sugar (like in starch, but faster to reactivate), while the effective sugar concentration in the cells is held low, so, allowing more sugar to be produced in that leaves, than otherwise would be possible. Greetings from Germany!

I enjoyed your editing style. Thank you! Not very many videos out there on how to care for the tree. Most videos I found are for germinating or propagation.

I love it.. I am also struggling to germinate the kaffir lime. And following your method.. Will keep you posted.

I hope yours will germinate soon. I've had a lot of success with this method. Seeds from a fresh fruit have high germination rate, peel the coat of the seed and give it plenty of heat and a bit of moisture. They'll surely sprout if they are viable seeds. Good luck!

For spider mites, use water and soap. If you have extras, hey, why not donate one with me? Also, for fertilizer, put egg shell or the break the whole egg into the soil. Saves you a lot of money for those commercial fertilizer.

I couldn't find Kaffir lime in our area San Francisco .. I want to start growing from seed and online seeds are not sprouting
@ThunThunChannel

Try my method for germinating the seeds. I highly suggest buying the fresh Kaffir lime fruit, which can be sold online, especially during the warmer seasons. Sometimes Etsy website has them. Also "Khmer Home Cooking, Dessert, Gardening and Travels" Facebook group sometimes have verified members who sell them. They have a high germination rate when you get the seed directly from the fruit. The problem with online seeds is that we don't know how old they are, and the viability of the seeds decrease over time. Check out my technique at this link here. Let me know if you have any questions. kzbin.info/www/bejne/sIXRpYxnap6Zb5I

i wish I knew someone with a lime tree, I want to try and graph a cutting on to my lemon tree. I rarely cook with Lime so a full tree would produce too much lime for me.

They should be a bit bigger at this age. It's due to lack of lighting and heat.

Ok… here is my take on the leaf color difference. I think it has to do more with fertilizer rather than the light source. Once you add Nitrogen, newer shoot come darker. Btw: as long as your plants growing (even under led lights), you should feed them. I typically feed my citrus plants all year round. In the winter, I use half dose every 2x weeks.

1. for spidermites and other pests buy a neem/rapeseed oil type spray. 2. those lights are cheap chinese gimmick lights, they have no power really. try a 150w high pressure sodium after repotting them and they will grow like crazy.
