It is not something that is medically tested for generally, so most people would never know. I was only tested because I was on a physician driven weight loss program. I am very thankful for all you are doing to help us navigate these trying times.

@Scooper Wilson I feel for dark skin coloured people who do not have access to KZbin. You are so right to pass the message about Vit D! I am white, but with a parent who had matching skin, and horrendous skin cancer history. So I have stayed indoors most of my adult life and consequently had extremely low Vit D levels for decades. 4 bouts of pneumonia and a lung fungus that the average person kills easily later I found about Vitamin D. I have gone from 25 to 61 in 2 years, and taking 4000 per day (2,000 previously) now of K2+D3 to give my body every chance of defending itself. AUD15/month is a small price to pay. No one in my family believes me, nor will look at the research I have found. Thankfully one friend did listen. I have tried twice to bring it to the attention of media and one group finally asked a senior nurse. Her response was that she was unaware of any published research for treatment of covid-19 using Vitamin D. I never said it treated it! And the reporting agency ignored this newsworthy investigation opportunity! Medical researchers, phaermaceutical companies all go after their pet projects, instead of reviewing what is already known and thinking outside the box. Everyone, in my opinion, and especially every dark skinned person should know about Vitamin D and upper respiratory infections, and asthma. And every nursing home should be dosing residents with Vitamin D when serving meals. But governments are intent on leaving discovery of the holy grail to researchers with vested interests. And ignoring already discovered knowledge. I hope you and yours keep safe.

Dr John. A report just came out in Canada showing that 82% of our deaths are from care homes. Truly shameful
@lindarasmussen16864 жыл бұрын
This 82% could have been avoided if protections were put in place at the end of January. The first American diagnosed was from a care home, in Washington state, on January 21st. The first to die in America was at a care homein early February. Canada was just putting together a committee on March 4th, to handle the affairs of the virus. Not a thought to care homes at this time. Even though it was also well known that elderly men, esp those with comorbidities were dying at higher numbers than any other sectors in society in Asia. Lots of info in the public domain to learn from. No Canadian gov't representatives picked up on this.
@mjwilliamsb26764 жыл бұрын
Its not just Canada - its happening here in the UK too. The care home sector, and care in the community services, has long been the cinderella part of the health system in respect of funding - its been cut and ignored for years by the politicians, and now the pigeons are coming home to roost... hospitals here have been shoving elderly people with Covid into nursing and care homes to die there instead of hospital because they're under great strain, and that's mostly why the death rates in them are so high. One thing this virus has done - it has and is highlighting every weak area in society and running riot through them all - the poor, the homeless, the overcrowding and under funding of various sectors (particularly heatlh sectors) in the UK - inequality across the board is now appallingly, glaringly obvious in the worst possible way. I can only hope this will lead to a reformulation, reorganisation of allocation of funds and some better solutions ongoing...
@robertkras51624 жыл бұрын
I think every country has failed their elderly. Here in New York State on March 25th Governor Cuomo issued an edict that nursing homes had to admit/re-admit patients even if they were COVID positive! Most of these homes have limited PPE and no way to isolate the infected. What a stupid thing to do. You can guess what has happened. Thousands have died in nursing homes because of this. So much for protecting our vulnerable. This is really criminal.

There are also racists who love to see black people die and suffer playing games in comments sections about this cos it suits their agenda. They call "racist" at John for calling for the protection of darker skinned people from this virus cos the racists are happy that they're dying in higher numbers. They're evil. And the others calling him 'racist' are just the terrifying phenomenon known as righteous psychopaths. They have no innate morals or compassion and are very formulaic in their ethics and have no way to formulate a sound view of anything. They are tiresome "do gooders" who care more about themselves and how others perceive them than the putative object of their 'concern'. Especially the painfully stupid people with university 'educations'. We are one human race and the evolutionary environmental adaptation of skin pigmentation to either too much or too little skin does not mean one is in any way a better human being than the other. Racialism is a pseudo science from centuries ago and belongs in the bin along with phrenology and "blood letting" and witch hunting.

Tears welled up that he would be called racist for trying to save the lives of non-white people. There are so many people who are not protective of minorities and surely the people not wearing masks and not social distancing and not closing anything in their countries - those are the ones more likely to not be sensitive to the very real needs of the races. He has mentioned vulnerabilities for places like Africa and for poor people so often. Again, genuine tears that we can't have this conversation, and that people can't see the heart of a servant.

I just despise when those people disregard science in favor of 'feelings.' Science does not give a squat about anyone's feelings. If the science says vitamin D deficiency results in higher mortality *and* darker skinned people are more likely to be vitamin D deficient.. then it is likely that more people of darker skin tone will die. The data so far seems to prove that theory HOWEVER until a comprehensive study of vitamin D levels of the deceased is done then it remains just a theory. A good theory, in my opinion.. but still a theory. Even afterwards it is still just a theory which may be later disproven by other, currently unavailable facts and data. I'm just rambling now so I will stop.. but you get what I mean hehe.

Dr John, my day job is helping managers and leaders make decisions. I teach how errors are made, and I include research on errors made by doctors in diagnosis and treatment. There is good research to show the when people (and doctors, and medics are people), have one explanation for some effect, they discount any other contributing explanatory factor. It is an error in reasoning, and training, and in the motivation to think. One can be smart, and work hard, but thinking critically and reasoning does not necessarily follow. Stanovich and West (2008) showed that the correlation between intelligence and critical thinking (in a sample of Harvard students), was just .30 or a weak correlation. So they have developed tests to assess the motivation and ability to think critically. I have a long list of typical errors that doctors make, that has been documented by research.

You're asking for tyranny and when you taste that power and control you don't let it go, it's taken away from you by the people after years and years of oppression. As soon as it was established that there was a virus in circulation that mainly affected the elderly, there should be a set of ring-fencing measures in place. Requiring care home staff to live in in set periods (if not permanently), having family members visit at windows, and having a distancing protocol for receiving deliveries would be key steps to reduce transmission risk. As with many things in this crisis, it has become apparent that there was no plan in place.
@johnw40164 жыл бұрын
KungZoo Any plan has to be based on the possible, rather than the ideal. Care personnel, including cooks and cleaners, have families they also need to care for. Food and other supplies need to be brought into the home. The PCR test for the virus has a false negative rate up to 25% and even the truly negative could be infected the day after a test , so it would be next to impossible to ensure that all staff are virus free.

@AllyD now you can ask her where her data is from as you have data from national statistics and a few doctors not just a nurse
@ashleyg394 жыл бұрын
I think she was wrong to cut you down about it, but the one thing I cannot reconcile is is it due to skin color or an issue of genes. Skin color is polygenic. It seems strange that biracial/multiracial people-assuming they are not generalizing by skin tone would be so less likely to die than black people despite maybe being around the same skin tone. And a lot of the ethnic minorities that are more likely to die than biracial people are lighter than biracial people.I’d like to see the data compared between biracial people of lighter hue vs black people (2 black parents ) or lighter hue. And biracial people of darker tone and black people of medium/darker tone. I’d also like to see that data compared to ethnic minorities of darker skin like darker skinned Indians and Bangladeshi people to see if the issue is due to melanin deposit or the genetics surrounding melanin deposition so that we do not see a false sense of safety or conflate something that is not necessarily true. I’d also like to see how ethnic diet plays a role between people of darker skin and lighter

Jackie Perez both are right. But it isn’t just about junk food. A lot of black “cultural” food, even when home cooked fresh is generally unhealthy or high in sodium. @@saltymonke3682 yeah, a lot of the times white people think people of colour are overly sensitive when it's actually other white people behind the outrage. The SJWs are entitled and protected and totally accustomed to society bending over backwards to suit them. Black people are not.

They’re gonna start easing some restrictions in Ontario, so there’s no question it’ll go back up. But it’s our nursing homes that are getting affected badly.

i cannot understand why people have just left elderly relatives in care homes during this pandemic. we all know that large groups spread diseases faster. it just makes so much sense to bring them back home for the duration. i mean i could understand leaving them if you can't handle them, like end stage altzhimers who reacts to confusion with violence, but if they just can't handle stairs anymore and need some help dressing...

I feel so sad for Those with no family. My mother and aunt brought my grandma home. She is hard to care for, she is so lucky to have had seven children and have three living near by, they do rounds caring for her and hired a nurse a 2 days a week to help. Most ppl don’t have 7 children these days coming together to help their parents.

26:30 as a Thai. Masks and hand sanitizers are everywhere, I mean everywhere! you go outside, you wear a mask. it has been like this since around March, I think. 7-11 is also a big part in this since its stores are everywhere. they've been taking people temp, giving hand sanitizer before they can go inside. i.imgur.com/rfesKOj.jpg as a weather. it is indeed hot, extremely hot outside 30c-40c.

Hot weather leads to more ventilation. Air conditioned environments less common and access more strictly managed (masks/sanitizer)?

I lived in Bangkok when I was young, I definitely remember it was hot. I'm pretty sure it was very humid too. I've read that Covid doesn't do well in humidity. ALWAYS great info and delivery Dr. Thank you for all you do❤

Hello Dr John I am currently in Northern thailand Chiang Rai and according to the Dr's at the hospitals we haven't had a case up here in a month. I think as well as the things you mentioned that have helped the Thais is they are outside people for the most part Of course there are just about more people in Bangkok than in the rest of the country for the most part all are active and out doors. I am originally from Canada, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and my parents are still there. What I hear from them is as in many places in the world the care homes and like facilities are the worst hit with many fatalities. but also the north indigenous communities are have a very hard time with out breaks. I certainly appreciate you Vlog and the information you share and they way in which you do share thank you very much. It is nice to have a bit of claraty in this very confusing time. all the best Randell Pepler retired carpenter living in Chiang Rai Norther Thailand

Arise Sir John. I have been watching your channel for over a year now, this virus episode has been easy to understand because of your informative videos. You really do deserve recognition for giving up so much of your free time to educate the public, internationally. Keep up the fantastic work, I will send a pic soon. Pat UK.

I am Mexican, I was not offended by the Vitamin D info. Dr. provided in previous videos. I live in the U.S. things are getting intense! People still believe that the virus is a hoax and that lockdowns are not necessary. Ever one I used to follow on KZbin is now some kind of conspiracy theorist! I very much appreciate the information given by Dr Campbell! Keep up the good work Dr.
