If you’re a responsible pet owner and keep your cats and small dogs inside they live just as long as any other cat or dog. I understand with big dogs having them inside may not be as feasible but if you have to keep your pet outside just keep them on tick/heartworm etc prevention and for the most part they’ll be fine. Snakes aren’t a huge problem in cities, it’s a pretty rare occurrence to see snakes in the city nowadays.

@melodicfox87615 жыл бұрын
Cheryl Blake tick killers, medicine, and even combing through the dogs fur while checking the skin regularly after walks to make sure nothing is on em.
@GGigabiteM4 жыл бұрын
@blue dog There are medications that can kill ticks on pets, but they're not immediately effective. The tick has to bite the animal to get a lethal dose of the tick preventative, meaning it can still inject toxins into the animal. Regular screenings of your pets after being outside in known tick infested areas offers the best level of protection.
@lukearts29544 жыл бұрын
@@GGigabiteM Actually, certain repellants are more than effective enough that they don't need to rely on the pesticide... Seresto by Bayer is one example. I have a lot of ticks on my land from wild critters coming through. With just one of my dogs wearing a Seresto, both my dogs never get a single tick. (They sleep together, and the Seresto rubs off on the entire surrounding including other animals sharing the sleeping space). Of course checking and fine combing after a walk is still advised, always, especially when the dogs went off-leash on the walk. No arguing that. Just that there are certain products that outperform most others. By the way, thoroughly checking your dog after each walk, makes the life of your vet a lot easier, as you're teaching your dog every day what an examination is and that it's nothing to worry about. So even without nasty ticks around, everybody should do this.
@bezzerwizzer64484 жыл бұрын
I think every pet should be treated against ticks (if they ever go outside, and dogs are on trips every single day). It should be a demand, the law. In my country i now hope we can get a law that ALL pets need a chip. Then it gets harder to not take god care of your dogs also. No more dog or cat on the loose and the vet has no possibily to notify the owner. A lot of pet owner are now chipping and nuder cats, as well. The same to dogs. But we still need stricter laws to protect and care for everybody. Love from Norway 🇧🇻
@lukearts29544 жыл бұрын
@@bezzerwizzer6448 it's a start, but no solution by far. We have that mandatory chipping here in Belgium, but it's not seriously enforced. For dogs it's getting harder for the people who try to sell without chip, but cats without chips are rampant... And those are far more often in the "lost and found". So, if you want to contribute to the solution, educate your community, and ask politicians to enforce the law rather than just make new amendments that won't be followed anyway.

I find it a bit strange that they're treating the mini horse's sharpened teeth as this unusual and extreme circumstance. Horses over the age of 15 typically need their teeth checked and floated (sharp points removed) every few years and it's considered a pretty routine procedure. My horse is 22 and just had his teeth done a few months ago. It's also odd that this guy took in a 20 year old horse and didn't immediately check his teeth because that's one of the first things I would have done, especially for a horse with a history of neglect who wasn't receiving regular and proper treatment.
@prcervi5 жыл бұрын
the age was a guesstamate, and the level of how bad the teeth were was more the surprise(other side was looking fine, weirdly)
@genthespacewitch5 жыл бұрын
@@prcervi It's pretty easy to tell an older horse from a younger horse based on several factors, teeth being one of them. Checking for sharp edges on teeth is just one of those things you do when you have an older horse, again, especially from a neglect case. When Dr. Chris said the first thing you think of when you see a swollen cheek is abscess, but I hadn't thought that at all and I'm a registered dental assistant! From the second I read the title "Horse Struggles To Eat" I thought "aha, probably needs its teeth floated". Except that seemed a little boring and routine for a show like this so I was skeptical. I thought that there had to be something different about it. Nope, just teeth floating. A rather extreme case but still nothing too exciting. And most of all I'm flabbergasted that the guy didn't check the teeth of those two minis immediately after acquiring them. It's really easy. You just stick your finger into the side of the mouth and feel for sharp edges.

I like that Chris calls in experts, but takes point in treatment. He's learning that way.

Cats don't generally get you in the face, but poo is one of their tricks. I, too, like Tim. He is much calmer than Steve Irwin, but such love for all the beautiful animals.

A Death Adder named Fifi? Yikes! You hear the name Fifi and you expect a fluffy white toy poodle wearing a diamond encrusted collar.

Which is why you always have regular hoof and teeth check.. Loads of horses are put down from behavioral issues, when it might be something as easy as having its teeth done, or checking for sore points in the body..

Thank you park guys for all your conservation work with all the animals! I learned quite a bit about plats and tax’s today! Also thanks to Dr. Chris and the amazing surgeon! Why don’t these pet owners treat their pets with flea and tick treatments from their vets?! No mention of it, no education about it. Why? Especially with fosters.
@MadCheshireHat4 жыл бұрын
Flea and tick treatments usually kill the tick after the tick bites. By the time it kicks in and works on the tick, the poison has already set in the dog. Tick repellant is what would be needed so they don't bite in the first place.
@5cats2kids84 жыл бұрын
CheshireKat yes, thank you, that is what I meant. Why aren’t more people using repellants on their pets and fosters?
