Bondi Vet

Witness a pygmy bearded dragon that mysteriously keeps getting smaller overtime. Can Dr. Chris figure out the problem? Angus the border collie cross has swallowed his favourite toy. It's up to Dr. Lisa Chimes and her team to get it out. Over at the Australian Reptile Park Tim Faulkner has spotted some new-born bush stone-curlews. As the species is endangered, he must hand-rear these adorable chicks in order to ensure their survival.

@@enjjackson44 you shouldn't even risk that. the main reason not to house them is because one will become dominant and sit on the other, as the mom explained the bigger beardie did. this blocks the smaller from heat and the necessary uvb light and can give them metabolic bone disease, I've seen a couple beardies who have unfortunately had this happen. Keep them separate or don't buy two.

There is a lot of misinformation that goes around saying that it is safe to house multiple lizards in the same enclosure (especially on some forums). You’re 100% correct. Bearded dragons are solitary animals. They do not enjoy the company of each other. They can get along, but one will always be dominant and they will always be battling for the best basking spot, UVB, and food. Do not house them together. Too many people anthropomorphize solitary animals and think they'll be lonely housed alone. They're happier alone. Plus, many solitary animals have a social phase in infancy because they're handing out with littermates for protection, and people buy them during the social phase and see them together with siblings in the pet store, and think they'll be happy like that their whole lives. I see the same thing happen a lot with hamsters, too.

Bearded dragons bullying one another as well as juvenile aggression is extremely common and that’s why they suggest they be housed alone. My father in law made the mistake of buying 3 beardies as babies and they were all housed together at the pet store, so he assumed they would grow up together and be fine. My boyfriend and I and the pet store clerk all told him it was not a good idea to buy all 3 and house them together. He didn’t listen and one of them ended up thriving and growing to be huge but bullied the other two. The other two both lost a foot, and though they are all separated now, the two that got bullied are are 3x smaller than the one who bullied them, extremely skinny, mean to people, and on the verge of death. Then my boyfriend and I have our bearded dragon who is fully grown and raised the correct way and is the most calm and easy tempered dragon ever. He is so sweet and thriving and it just shows the difference in proper care and knowing little things that don’t seem important, but they are.

If that beardie is housed in a small tank with another beardie with bare minimum, imagine the living conditions of all the other animals in that house. A beardie should have an open enclosure with matting, hides, and foliage to make them feel less threatened. As well as supplied heating. Which should be a AUTOMATIC know.

I owned a bearded dragon (he passed at the age of eight or nine, was abt a year or so when we got him) from the time I was nine till 17. I got a snake when I was ten for Christmas, so age for her isn't an excuse... he was smol, he's eight now. For BOTH of my pets, before my parents even considered getting me them. I had to do the research myself, the lightening, food, water, tank size, everything, I also paid for the reptile themselves, while my parents paid for the tank and lighting. DO YOUR FUCKING RESEARCH.

@@chasedbyvvolves9256 As someone who owns birds, rats, mice, lizards, frogs and various insects i agree wholeheartedly. I learnt this lesson ages ago with my dogs when my old girl would sometimes drop to the ground and scream in pain and the vets told us it was just a cruicered ligament and would cause her no pain. Vets, like doctors, are very falliable. But for such a high profile vet to miss the mark by such a high margin on a relatively simple question when he feels qualified to assess peoples suitability to purchase pigs as pets (which he also failed at but at least there he tried to explain it was a bad idea), maybe he needs to do a little research on the animals he goes see, especially since the zoos seem to call him in often to treat their reptiles
