Some bikes now have removable keys once the bike is started. I have a 2010 Kawasaki Vulcan 1700 LT, you use the key in the ignition to start the bike, then remove the key and stick it in your pocket. Shut the bike off by turning the ignition switch. Would prevent asshole cops from this stunt!

Then you obviously don’t understand the situation. People who ride without plates do so because it lets them run from law enforcement without being held accountable. A sportbike can outrun just about anything, and once the officer steps off his bike there’s almost no chance of catching him if he suddenly decides to run… and anyone pulling the No-plate game knows that they can still run and get away scott-free at that point, even after stopping. The rider did not voluntarily turn off the bike himself. The cop throwing the keys on the ground means that the rider can no longer run without getting off the bike and picking them up first which is enough time for the officers to see what he is doing and stop him. It was the simplest way the officer could keep this from turning into a police chase or worse.

Alex was referring to "people like him" as in people who ride on sports bike without license plates. Just about every bike that i've seen without license plate do things such as excessive speeding, wheelies, running reds, and when confronted, run from cops. That is what he meant by "people like him". Now get outside your bubble for a second and think of the possibility that maybe where Ken is from, bikers without plates are notorious for causing problems. Which in most cases I imagine any bikes without plates are problems. So you can expect that kind of attitude from a police officer. I wouldn't get mad at the cop for throwing my keys, but rather just stunned for a second. I bet you if he had a plate the cop wouldn't have even done that.

New york officer searched a car and found nothing on camera, but the other cop found a lit joint on the previously clean back seat floor OFF camera. (Planting evidence and filing a falsified report.) Another new york officer stopped a licensed motorcyclist JUST to check if they had papers. (Fourth amendment violation.) An Oklahoma cop shot a fleeing unarmed suspect in the back three times, killing him, then tried to plant a gun on him. (Fleeing, unarmed, murdered, framed.) An Ohio state trooper pulled a guy over and threatened to arrest them because the driver didnt tell him he was a CHL holder who wasnt carrying at the time. (If you arent armed, you arent obligated to inform them in ohio.) This is all in the last 5 years. All that being said, the first dude was riding without plates on the bike. But throwing the keys like that was disrespectful as fuck. Even if they thought he would flee on the bike.
