Ticket to Ride Europe takes a little longer to learn than Ticket to Ride North America but is very rewarding as you learn to build train stations, use ferries and cross dark tunnels.
It makes the game even more competitive, but the overall goal is still to claim the most railway routes across Europe. The longer the route, the more points you make.
Ticket to Ride Europe is a very elegant and simple gameplay with a real good balance between greed, by taking more tickets, and fear of losing routes to competitors.
It plays 2 to 6 players but is more competitive at 3 or 5.

You explained this game very well, I just have one question. For the destination cards, do you have to lay down all of the trains to complete the route in one turn, or can you do it section by section?

Thank you! So with the destination tickets, they are objectives - every turn you have a choice of actions: taking train tickets, taking destination tickets, placing trains on the map. If you place trains on the map, once per turn you can place 1 route from one city connected to another city. You don't place the entire destination objective in one action. Hope this helps!

Hello! I'm so glad you like it. You only count your trains towards the longest route. Train stations are not used for this. I hope this helps :)

Great video! One question about tunnels,when i want to claim a route of ex. 4 red tunnels I have to draw 3 train cards from the stack.Let's say I draw 2 reds and one pink from the stack,,how many more of my cards do I have to give up other than my original 4? 1more red or two more reds?

Thank you for such a detailed explanation. I am hoping you could clear these doubts for me. For 4-5 players game, 1. can I claim the red route from Frankfurt to Berlin and then black route from Berlin to warzawa to complete a destination ticket? Ex: 8.29 in the video. 2. Also, if I have already claimed the red route from Frankfurt to Berlin but now I have run out of trains but another player has already claimed the block route from Berlin to Warszawa then can I put a train station and claim it to complete a destination ticket?

Thank you this helped a lot! One question about building a tunnel. At 6:03 it shows the board. The tunnel tracks are grey yet you used pink cards to fill them in. Am I viewing them wrong? I see between Zurich and Marseille it looks like 2 pink tunnel tracks. Thanks again!

Hi, thank you, glad it was helpful. You are correct, they are pink, it was for the line between Kiev and Budapest; when they are grey you pick the colour you want to use, and all the cards used have to be the same colour or a locomotive. I hope this helps!

This is a great video & helped me a lot. One question though which i felt the written instruction were ambiguous about: When drawing cards, can you pick a face down first look at it, then pick a face up? (assuming no locomotives involved) If allowed, this would greatly increase your chances of a matching pair. Thanks

The whole idea behind having five cards face up and two unknown face down in the deck is that you "risk" picking two potentially useless cards from the deck, with the possible gain of getting loco+extra card, or even two locos. When you pick from the 5 face ups, you can get only one loco, or two cards of your choice. Giving players the ability to have a peek at the deck breaks the mechanic.

Hi, thanks for explaining the game. Hope you can help avoid a potential family feud :)..... 1. Our understanding is that you may only build a route from the card, eg Edinburgh to Athens, by starting at Edinburgh and following in chronological order till you reach Athens. Is that correct ? 2. You may not claim any route between cities in any other way than the chronological order? 3. When a player claims a route, and in doing this, cuts off another player, is that the end of that player's route? Hoping our questions make sense. Regards

Hello, glad to help. The routes, if they are available, are free to anyone who claims them, in any order they want. The destination tickets are secret, so no one should know what you need to complete (sometimes players may guess). One can completely cut off other players (on purpose or not) and prevent them from fulfilling tickets (that's when the train station comes in to save the day). Sometimes, because routes have been claimed, alternate routes might be necessary to complete a destination ticket. I tend to try to pick complementary tickets so I can make a route that is connected as much as possible. I hope this helps!

I know this is an old question, but in case someone else ends up with the same question in the future - You do not have to claim routes in any type of chronological order. In fact, you do not even need to "start" at either of the cities you are trying to connect. Nor do you have to connect your "next" series of trains to a pre-exiting one. At least not in this edition (there is another map that you must connect to a train, but not this one). To say it another way, you can place your trains between any two cities you want throughout the game. can be in any order, anywhere as long as you meet the rule requirements to do so. In fact, if you have two final destination cities that maybe have 2-3 shorter route options or ways to connect, but the primary path you think you may want to take goes through one certain section, you may want to claim that middle section earlier than not to make sure you have it locked down. As far as your last question, if you "block" a player, then YES, they will have to find another route, usually one that causes them to go out of their way. It is a key feature and strategy of TTR.

Hi there, basically you lose the turn. he rules say: "If the player does not have enough additional Train cards of the matching color (or does not wish to play them), he may take all his cards back in his hand, and his turn ends." Hope this helps, enjoy the game :)

Good video! The only thing I'd say is: when you're counting points / moving markers for claimed routes, have at least 2 players doing it. The only game of TtR:E I ever lost I lost because the other player wasn't always moving their marker when they claimed routes so near the end I thought I had a much larger lead than I did. It ended very close and they made a great gutsy call to draw tickets on their last move so they deserved it, but still, that's not how you want it to go.

I have one question. When you are building tunnel and you lay down required number of cards, then reveal 3 additional train cards. What happens if none of them has matching colour? I just simply lose that round and next player has their turn?

Hi, it's a little different. You don't want the same colour of cards on the 3 you draw. For every card of the same colour you draw, you have to add 1 additional card from your hand of that colour. If all three are different colours, you can place the trains without adding cards. Hope this helps :)

Thankyou, When the draw card pile is depleted, can the next person take their turn before it is replenished? He says he can because he does not need to draw and plans to place cars on the tunnel and therefore avoids cards being flipped and avoids paying bonus cards. Is this right? And then my turn, can I also play since I don't need to draw cards?

Hi Harvey, the rules say "When the draw pile is exhausted, the discards are reshuffled into a new draw pile deck. The cards must be shuffled thoroughly, since they will usually have been discarded in sets." I would say you have to reshuffle as soon as its empty :)

Hello, the game end is triggered when someone has 2 or less trains in their supply. You do one more round, including the person who triggered the end of game. No more additional points for ferries or tunnels.

Still don't understand the use of 'Stations". It is a tricky one. A couple of examples would be good.

They are tricky. You can build a station in any city, but there can only be one station per city. Basically you will do this when all the routes are taken to a city you need to reach for one of your destination tickets. How you do this: you put the station in a city, you don't need to decide which route you claim until the end of the game. In minute 7:40 in my video the red player puts a train station in Berlin and uses the black player's route to connect to Wien. I hope this helps. Enjoy the game :)

The original Ticket to Ride (US map) comes with the smaller train cards. You need to purchase the 1910 expansion to get the larger train cards (along with more ticket/destination cards). The Ticket to Ride European version (the one in this video) has the larger, "full size" train cards. PLUS - I will add Ticket to Ride Nordic countries (the other "stand alone" version for 2-3 players only) ALSO have the larger train cards. And just to be clear - when I say version, I don't mean the country it is sold or purchased in - I mean the version of the game. There is Ticket to Ride (which is the US Map) and Ticket To Ride Europe.

Hello, see below: 1) No, they don't count for your longest route 2) You know how cities have multiple routes that come in or out of the city. When you place the train station, you first place it on the city, but at the end of the game you need to pick a route. So say you've put the station in Paris, at the end of the game you need to pick the opponents route, whether it's the one coming from Pamplona, or Marseille, or Zurich, etc. You cannot use multiple routes, you pick one. oh no! I'm sorry. I have put below the rules of the tunnels: "When attempting to claim a Tunnel route, a player first lays down the number of cards required by the length of the route. Then the three top cards from the Train draw pile are turned face-up. For each card revealed whose color matches the color of the cards played to claim the Tunnel, an additional card of the same color (or a Locomotive) must now be played from his hand. Only then can the player successfully claim the Tunnel route. If the player does not have enough additional Train cards of the matching color (or does not wish to play them), he may take all his cards back in his hand, and his turn ends." Basically, try to have a few more cards of the color you are placing in case it comes up or locomotives. The Stations: You have 3 - if not used during the game they are worth 4 points each at the end of the game. To use them: "Stations may be built on any unoccupied city, even if it currently has no claimed routes into it. Two players may never build a Station in the same city. Each player may build a maximum of one Station per turn, and three Stations throughout the course of the game. To build his first Station, a player plays and discards one Train card from his hand, and places one of his colored Train Stations on the chosen city.To build a second Station, the player must play and discard a set of two cards of any one color; and to build his third, a set of three Train cards of any one color. As usual, you can replace any number of cards by Locomotives. If a player uses the same Station to help connect cities on several different Tickets, he must use the same route into the city with the Station for all of those Tickets.
