A friend and I were wade fishing the TCD many years at night when we realized we were no longer waist deep in the water. We were looking into the darkness when we saw a huge wave coming toward us. Last time I was at the dike was the first time I saw a ship wake on that side. We launched our jon boat and took it towards the end of the dike while rest of the family fished on the rocks. Was time to go home and we started going towards the boat ramp when we heard a ship horn and then saw the massive wake headed towards us
@MDLRFishing11 ай бұрын
Dang 😮
@craighebert4655Ай бұрын
00:30 They’re not supposed to, and there is not not a speed limit but a “no wake” zone. Being in a related industry I can say there are a lot of times they have no choice to safely meet oncoming traffic while maintaining steerage in the wind and current. And if the water is shallow next to the bank, their wake will be more pronounced, bigger, & a risk to be around.

This Video of that wave should go viral. Galveston bay system is the worst for killer waves like that. Especially Wade fishing out there. I have been out around he dike and the sunken concrete ship when a wave took a Wade fisherman down to their death and heard of more. Plus boats. Next worst is the Sabine River and Pass area. Same. I guess next would be the Port Arkansas pass to the plants area then the Brownsville pass and shipping lane. Fished them all in boats and Wade fishing for many years.

What’s up Mark, recent subscriber after taking a vacation down to TCD for some fishing. New to saltwater, and really trying to build a versatile and lightweight surf/jettie rod like your 9ft rod / 4000 Shimano reel setup. Able to cast out live bait like this video or toss some lures off the jetties. Looking at the same rod here, penn carnage matched up with a 3500 Penn slammer 4. Would you say that’d be good to go? Thanks and love the channel!! From north Dallas area and definitely taking more trips to Galveston and learning the area through your videos!!
@MDLRFishing4 ай бұрын
I have the Carnage 3 in a 9’ length medium power. The problem I have with it is that it’s too stiff to work lures. The handle/butt section of the carnage is also too long to effectively work lures. It’s great for casting 2 oz spoons and other heavy lures. Also great for casting blue crab for bull reds and black drum.
