I got a pair too, along with 2 charging stands and a pair each of the GMRS and air-band tuned NA771 antennas, just for fun. Shipping from the TID Radio store stateside crossed the border fairly quickly, build quality way better than I expected, and performance seems pretty good on the latest firmware. Just purchased 2 TD-h3s in the clear case. Awesome radios. Working on a chirp file for them right now. I was very impressed with the TD-h8s so thought I would give them a go, and glad I did. They are much gooder than the uv5r.

One thing I don't like about the TD-H3 is that there is no way (that I've found) to do live/interactive DTMF. The keypad is inactive when PTT is on. You can only hit the DTMF button in standby, type in the codes, then hit PTT and let it send them. This doesn't always work for some repeaters and other uses, since the codes might be sent before the receiver is ready or has even opened squelch. Sure, a good receiver will open fast and be able to catch all the codes, but the option to enable transmit, wait a beat or two, then send codes, would be welcome. Of course, predialing the codes can be useful, and many Boofangs (UV-5R and cousins specifically) can't predial, while some other cheapo HTs can do either: most Radtels can, but some Radiodddditttty ones can't predial, probably because they're just modified Boofs.

Just my experience if I use Chitp on Windows 11 the power settings will be low on the TD-H3 regardless of what Chirp shows. On Macbook there is no problems.

Why don’t you do a video on the beartooth mess transmission radios. They are expensive but look really cool.they can leap frog through each radio to get more fars. Looks really cool. The marines are using them. Only 16 ounces and a battery lasts 2 days. Also can be encrypted

Because they are $750 each after a discount and they are really nothing else than a dressed up Meshtastic LORA device. They operate in the same ISM band with the same restrictions. The company also has a history of abandoning their products. I got their initial design that never quite worked right and they just quietly abandoned it and even removed the app from the app store. They are basically bricks now and instead of at least releasing the firmware for the device and source code for the app so the community could continue development on their own they just refuse to do anything.

Why does CHIRP tell me that channels 31-54 must be in .025 increments. As far as I can tell on the TD-H3 these channels are not assigned. It would seem I can add any channels I want in those channel numbers and any order? And in fact the radio itself lets me add any channels I want in those channel numbers. However CHIRP barks at me whenever I try to do that.

I live near an airport, and I bought one of the bundles with a dedicated air-band antenna. Works at least as well as my other (more expensive) HT that is air band capable. Not sure the antenna makes that much difference. Seems to work equally well with either the air-band or the usual rubber duck antenna. Note, I haven't tried using the air band antenna to TX on any GMRS or ham frequencies.

13:41 Scramble I don't think the Fried Chicken Corporation is clear on that. I have a couple old FRS radios with scramble, which apparently is known by RadioHeads as Voice Inversion? It was common on FRS, but then the Fried Chicken people decided it was bad, so bad, for GMRS. Some crusty ham forums say someone convinced the Chicken folks that inversion was not scrambling and so should be allowed, but then that guy promoted and no one convinced the next chicken fryer....

Nooooooooo! You didn't mention my two FAVORITE Features that are Hardly EVER mentioned (you did half mention one of them) and that is: This FREAKIN radio lets you save you favorite FM Radio Stations!!!!! about 21 one of them! I wanted this feature so badly and infact it is the feature I use 90% of the time...when walking my dog listening to the News like 1010 Wins here in NYC. The second is the fact that the FLASHLIGHT is freakin bright! (sadly its Radial coverage is blocked partially by the antenna and casts a shadow on the ground of the antenna...but still does the job) Now why is this sooo important? Because in a SHTF scenario where you have to hang onto your Radio but also need to walk the dog...you want to carry less...especially and extra separate flashlight....so that as you walk in the dark 1. you avoid stepping on other dog poop. and 2. you can see where you are going using the same hand that is holding the radio...because your other hand is holding the Dog leash....This is my SECOND most used feature!. these 2 features alone make it a Baofeng killer for me. I hate manually typing a radio station on a UV-5G every time I want to hear something else, let alone remember every exact frequency.

I bought the H8 instead but, my next radio will be the H3 next week. I love the H8 for what it is over my +$200 Wouxun KG-UV9GX, it's even louder and clearer than the 9GX. In answer to the child complaining about GMRS licensees using an unlocked radio or a combo radio, get a fracking life and out of your mom's basement bathtub already! Rules were made to be broken, otherwise they'd be laws. Also, if memory serves, Randolpho has a commercial license, if it's not been revoked. There's many other reasons to unlock these radios to use on other frequencies besides either Ham or GMRS, like MURS or in the case of the H3, CB and whatever else you may be licensed to use. The main thing I dislike about these radios is the lack of groupings, programmable channels, and ability to dual scan channels like the 9GX. I don't really miss anything else, though I'd like to see a double superheterodyne version of the H3 and what they could possibly do with it, in comparison to the current models while keeping the prices as low as possible.
