You are so steady placing your dye. Turquoise always clumps up on me and it’s my favorite color. I love ice dye. Thank you for your dedication to the art.

I like what you’ve done here and I could see adding an ice scrunch on the outer edges to reduce the white. Agree with the center thought you have.

very promising technique. I will try it.

Very interesting! I use a glass Pyrex bowl and it works sometimes but not others so you may of helped me figure it out! I put the dye all the way down the side not just on top so that may be my problem. I also use a collar but put the ice on the whole shirt vice just on top. I will have to give this a whirl thank you!

Couple months ago I made an incline spiral using my idea of shaping an piece of chicken wire into a cone. (Had it leftover from an old garden fence.) You can probably take off with that idea alone. Anyway I shaped the cone so the outer edges would just fit inside the old steel (formerly cookpot) with the point end of the cone up. Spiral folded the shirt entirely, centered over the cone's rounded point and pushed down a bit around the outer spiral edges of the shirt, letting it conform somewhat to the cone shape, which also staggered the layers of the folds. Covered the whole thing in ice (the cookpot contains the ice nicely), and sprinkled on my dye powder. I got what I call a "Monet effect". Still got white in the folds even with spreading the shirt d the sides of the cone, but like the result & was a worthwhile experiment.

I think it looks really cool. I have been wanting to try this and I think the dye container worked just fine as a base 🙂

I agree. I plan to continue using the dye container versus buying extra colanders. :)

First off, have to apologize. I posted this as an experiment to a FB group back in March and watched it explode. So when I hear people are asking you to do a tutorial vid, I feel bad cause that’s extra work for you… That being said, I love these (the way I do them at least) and despise seeing other techniques that are awesome, but the creator charges insane amounts for a tutorial. Like you, I also use a solid base; a $1 party bowl from Dollar General. I think the solid bowl forces a lot more flow and also doesn’t allow the shirt to dry from both sides. I use a modded colander on top (and think people saw “colander” and ran with it), where the center circle is cut out and placed over the spiral, to fill with ice. Generally only use two colors because I love the look of the negative space; I wedge them from the center a couple inches out. SA soaked and wrung out by hand. Gently fill with ice and let it do its thing.

lol - No need to apologize - I have to come up with a new video twice a week; so, this one was quick and easy. (And, I like the "wispy" results.) You'll likely see another two or so videos from me using the jar - just to try out a non-spiral design and probably a one or two color spiral. Yes - based on the never-ending posts on FB, it most definitely exploded. There are so many posts every day with a colander involved.

@@CasualCollisions I was thinking about a single color while watching so I'd love to see that!

Why don’t you try this again but put the ice in the colander. The water will drips. Maybe it will create something cool. I haven’t seen this colander tie dye thing people are doing so I’m just guessing.
@CasualCollisions2 жыл бұрын
With the ice in the colander, it would be a regular ice dye. The colander - or, in this case, the jar - is being used as a stand to keep on section of the ice dye horizontal while the remainder of the fabric is vertical (or inclined) to create a "wispy" fall-off at the edges.
