I’ve been watching your videos for hours now. Would you mind telling me your top 5 favorite dyes for color splits?? 😍
@FunEndeavors6 ай бұрын
That's a really tough question. Happy Cat Tie Dye has formulated quite a few dyes specifically for tie dye and most of them have gorgeous color splits. I think she's been out of quite a few colors lately though. Dyespin has also formulated dyes specifically for ice dyeing called their "Dark Horse" dyes, and they are all gorgeous too. My favorites are: Elysian, Mind Bender, and Actias Luna. Pro Chemical and Dye has a couple of my all-time favorites of Stormy Sky and Spicy Plum. If there is a specific dye supplier that you are ordering from, I would be happy to make suggestions for that supplier.

Absolutely beautiful Angie - - the feathering from the dye movement is amazing - - I've tried this a couple of times and ended up with a lot of white spots left, so I might have to put more dye next time - - your total saturation is stunning!!

Thank you! I love the feathering effect too. Well, I tend to be a little heavy-handed with the dye. Even when I'm trying not to be. 🙂

Hi Angie, I do a lot of twists myself. I call that effect “dappling” as the first few items I did reminded me of sunshine dappling through leafy green trees. (Yes, my color scheme was yellows and greens.) Great job on this shirt, love the colors; though personally I prefer the movement more on a diagonal than horizontal.

This is absolutely fantastic! Really enjoyed the video. I would love to try this myself, but I only have access to Dylon dyes over here. Do you know if Dylon dyes split into many colours like that? And it seems like soda ash is already included in Dylon dye, would you still recommend prewashing it with soda ash?
@FunEndeavors Жыл бұрын
Thank you! I don't have any experience with Dylon dyes, so unfortunately I am not sure how to use them or if they will split. You could always try them on just a piece of fabric and see how they work before trying them on a t-shirt.

You let it sit in the container you dyed it in for 24hrs? How do you keep it from drying out? Thank you!
@FunEndeavors3 ай бұрын
I do. This shirt I left inside to process, and the shirt was very damp after all the ice melted. When I process shirts inside I usually don't have an issue with them drying out. If you are concerned about your shirt drying out, you can lean a plastic container lid over the top of the guttering to keep some of the air off of it. You can also wait a few hours after the ice melts and place this guttering inside of a plastic tote with a lid. It won't be at an incline, but if you left it for a few hours after all the ice melted - the dye should already have moved down the shirt. You can also lightly spray the shirt with a soda ash solution to keep it damp. I use the tips above when I process outside during the summer. 😀

Where do you get the long tray that you put the shirt with ice?
@FunEndeavors Жыл бұрын
It is a piece of vinyl guttering from Lowe's. I bought a long piece and cut it down into smaller pieces. I cut several 30 inch pieces like this one (this is the size that I use the most), and 60 inch pieces for longer folds. Vinyl guttering isn't sharp like metal guttering and it cleans up really well after each tie dye.

do i really have to soak it in the first step?
@FunEndeavors9 ай бұрын
Some tie dyers only sprinkle soda ash on the shirt when they apply the dye. They seem to have good success with it. However, I soak everything that I dye in a soda ash solution. Without soda ash, the dye will not bond with the fabric, so I like to be sure I have plenty in my shirt.
