Tie-Dye Designs: Reverse Dyed Geode [Ice Dyed]

In this video I show and explain the process that I used to tie and reverse dye a geode design using a navy T-shirt. I also show and explain the process that I used to ice dye the shirt using a variety of orange, red and brown dyes.

Love you did a geode! I've been obsessing doing these! They are addictive because the results are so AMAZING! Fun to see the reverse dye process. I use a 5 liter plastic bottle with the bottom cut out. I place the tied geode in it with the tips up and apply dye, then ice. Makes great "peaks" in the dye process. Your vids are all so AWESOME!!! I love learning from you!💕

i know this is off topic but what that blue shirt was made of since the out white brite didn't really do anything to them? i know i have seen it not affect the color of polyester but i wouldn't think that is what the shirts would be

All of the shirts in this container were Gildan Ultra Cotton T-shirts that were 100% cotton. I assume you are talking about the shirt that is kind of a teal color? I don't know why it didn't change. I actually haven't done anything with that shirt since it didn't lighten. I bought quite a few different colored Gildan shirts to try to see how well the color removal process worked on them. That's one of the only ones that I've had stay the same. It has something to do with the original way that the shirt was dyed. I think I'll probably try some dark colors over the top and see what happens.

That turned out awesome. I though I had a problem using 9 different colors at a time. I don't feel so bad now. Lol. Are you using the sinew in your links? I need to try something new. Every time I wash mine in hot water all the wax comes out and everything turns into a rats nest.

Thank you - I'm glad you like it! My favorite sinew is the one in my links. However, I think this is some of an older kind of sinew that I was trying to use up. That's frustrating when it gets all tangled.

I've watch most of your videos but I can't remember if you've done an ice dye vs HWI using the geode pattern. Have you? And if so, can you point me to it?

I don't think I ever have either. I'll have to add that to my list. It's been awhile since I've done an HWI and so that would be a good one to do.

I was just looking for color split swatches last night from Dharma's colors last night. Would you happen to know where I could find some color split swatches of some of thr colors? Not just color swatches but color splits lol :) jw If not could u possibly make some? :)

There are a few tie dye groups on facebook like "The Process of Ice Dyeing" where various people post swatches showing the color splits. On Dharma's site the colors with the letters after them - like Lemon Yellow - Yellow 86 MX-8G - usually don't split. Paula Burch has a chart on her website which lists the pure unmixed Procion MX dye colors and their codes. It's a great reference tool: www.pburch.net/dyeing/FAQ/pureMXcolors.shtml
