The one with some black left on it looked cool. Sort of something like you'd see on a character in a post apocalyptic world.

Thank you! I like some black left too, but I have actually gone ahead and used Out White Brite on it again. I removed too much black the first time so I thought I would go ahead and remove it all, and dye over it. I am working on editing the video where I dyed it. I ended up liquid and ice dyeing it - so this shirt has been through a lot!

Cool experiment. More please! I like the tied version better. I wonder what a geode effect would look like on top on a portion of the shirt.

Thank you! A geode would be a cool design to try on this shirt.

I loved this experiment, Angie. It will be interesting to see how you choose to dye them now. Thanks for sharing:)

Thank you! I've already dyed the one of them. I just finished the video, and it will be uploaded for Saturday. I chose to use some darker colors and I can't really tell that the shirt was plaid to begin with.

I’m guessing that will dye up nicely I really like how fast that stuff works thank you so much for sharing with us✌️

Thanks - I'm glad you liked it! I actually have already removed the rest of the color from the one I tied and just finished dyeing it. I think it's hard to tell that it even has a pattern. I'll post a video soon.

@@FunEndeavors cool I can’t wait well I guess I’ll have to😁 my 58 x 90 tapestry showed up yesterday I can’t wait to get started on it not quite sure what I’m gonna do with it something with lots of color. I’m revamping my tie-dye area so I guess I’ll have to wait for that to be done✌️

@@GOYOSGardenTiedyes Ooooh that's exciting! That's a big enough tapestry to tie just about anything you want to. I hope you have fun with it - and I can't wait to see how it turns out! 🙂

I would probably do that on an old flannel or one that is like a thrift store buy. Not a brand new unless it’s an awful color. Also use less color remover for the scrunch up dye
@histeve11102 жыл бұрын
Angie I truly appreciate your experimentation. You’ve worked hard trying to get something going with these flannels, but they have really proven to be challenging. I like the untied results 👍 and I still think some camo color over that checker flannel would appeal to a lot of guys. Speaking of a challenge, I picked up some scraps that included a couple of large pieces of heavy linen (roughly 2’ x 5’ each) that I thought could work well as banners, but I am completely intimidated. Have you ever worked with linen? Would you have any advice for me and my fear of the unknown?
@FunEndeavors2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I actually went ahead and used Out White Brite again on the tied shirt since I wasn't happy with the results and then liquid and ice dyed it. I am currently editing the video. I used some darker colors on the shirt, but I can't really see the original plaid design at all on the final shirt. I'll have to remember to try camo on one of them. I did use green on this one, but it's not a true camo design. No, I haven't ever worked with linen. I can see where it would be intimidating though - it is a lot more delicate than cotton. I would be gentle with it if you are tying it with sinew. I hope your banners turn out awesome!

What would be the next step after this application to start a dye process? Wash then soda ash? Can you do a step by step tutorial after this one adding the dye back?
@FunEndeavors2 жыл бұрын
After I use Out White Brite I always wash my shirts using a little bit of Dharma's Textile Detergent in the washing machine. Then I soak the shirt in a soda ash solution, wring it out in my Panda Spin Dryer and tie it like normal. I made a video dyeing one of these flannel shirts. Cool experiment. Curious, have you ever tried using a little cup of OWB solution and painting it on a shirt with a brush? I'm guessing it doesn't have to be boiling water since it's made to go into washing machines.
@FunEndeavors2 жыл бұрын
No, I haven't ever tried that. I used Out White Brite years ago to brighten some whites in the washing machine, but I was honestly a little underwhelmed. Boiling water really does make it work much better and quicker. I'm not sure I would get the same results if the water was just warm.

Cool, have you ever used the outwhite brite on a tie dye you messed up? I tried using a color remover one time on one and I thought it was working, but it didn’t work the way I wanted it to and I ended up tossing the shirt.
@FunEndeavors2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I have tried it on a blue shirt that I didn't like. In my experience, blue doesn't completely come out of a shirt, but it will lighten a lot. I could at least dye over the top of the lighter blue. Here is a link to that video if you are interested: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qajWf3qJqph7pac I've been experimenting with various colored shirts and it's always interesting the color that the shirts turn in Out White Brite. I just did a shirt a few days ago that was dark red and went yellow after using Out White Brite.

Interesting outcome on these shirts, Angie. Question: I can't remember if you've answered this already but does the Out White Brite need to be neutralized in any way, or does just washing the shirt remove and/or stop any further bleaching?
@FunEndeavors2 жыл бұрын
No, you don't need to neutralize Out White Brite - that's one of the awesome things about this product. I usually wash my shirts after using it though. Partially to remove the smell and to also prep the shirt for dyeing. If it is a design that I tied with sinew though, I will usually leave the shirt tied when I wash it in the washing machine.

Have you tied and dyed a flannel with the black background? That might look very cool, the color would just be visible in the white squares, no?

I'm getting the feeling that making a light silvery grey bed sheet completely white, probably isn't going to happen... looks like it will be an off-white colour, and it would be hard to get all of the fabric "bleached", since it's such a large piece of fabric. Though sheets are very thin, so I dunno, but the colour would probably be off anyway. Looks like I'll be buying white sheets so as my benzoyl peroxide doesn't bleach them again lol. Dang.
@FunEndeavors Жыл бұрын
No, the grey probably wouldn't go completely white. Benzoyl peroxide is pretty rough on fabric, and is great at bleaching out fabric. White sheets would probably be your best option. You could always give it a try though, especially if you are going to replace them anyway.
@Siberius- Жыл бұрын
@@FunEndeavors - Yea maybe I should try anyway, see how they look. It's not THAT far off white already, it's like a silver colour. Though the benzoyl peroxide bleached areas are a light beige sort of colour, so it would probably end up similar to that, which is kind of how everything ends up looking that I have seen on youtube (at least never actually white). I think I'll get white sheets, since my white pillow cases don't get any discolouration at all. I was wondering if they would go yellowy, like when over-bleaching with "bleach", but it seems not, which is good. The sheets get a lot more benzoyl peroxide exposure though. I don't know if benzoyl peroxide breaks down the fibres and the other stuff in white fabric, though, that might just be a bleach thing? Then I think I'll also Out White Brite the sheets, they can be light beige. Way better than the current situation! Wait we don't have Out White Brite in Australia... We have other laundry whiteners in powder form... I don't know if this gets tricky and specific with ingredients for what I wanna do.
@FunEndeavors Жыл бұрын
@@Siberius- I agree - they will probably end up some shade of taupe. I'm not sure either if benzoyl peroxide actually damages the fabric or if it just discolors it. I've heard others from Australia mention that Out White Brite isn't available there. Do you happen to have Rit Color Remover? It works basically the same way, but just a bit slower.
@FunEndeavors Жыл бұрын
It seems like she used a lot of Rit Color Remover. You will probably need more than 1 box, but I think 5 seems like a lot. I used to use Rit before I started using Out White Brite. A few of my older color removal or reverse dye videos are using Rit Color Remover. I'm not sure what the instructions on the back of the box are (it's been awhile since I've used it), but I put my items in a bucket of really hot water that was mixed with Rit Color Remover and allowed them to lighten. I think it would probably work best though if the water was a lot hotter than what I used to use. If I did it now, I would boil water on my stove and pour boiling hot water into the bucket that contained the sheets and the color remover. If you tie the sheets some way or scrunch them really tightly it would hopefully make color variations on the sheets when the color is removed. That would be really good to cover up some of the staining and make it less noticeable. I think it would stand out more on solid color sheets. I know that some tie dyers use color removers inside their homes and boil them on the stove, I do not do that though. I use them outside (they all have a smell of some kind) and just pour the boiling hot water into the bucket. Depending on how thick your sheets are, you may need to use 2 buckets or repeat the process for each sheet. I think that a single sheet will probably fill the bucket. The only reason why I use Out White Brite vs. Rit Color Remover is because it works faster. Out White Brite is also easier for me to purchase in my local store and it comes in a larger container.

@@FunEndeavors - The good news is that Amazon Australia (where I live) has Out White Brite! 2 for 50 bux (33.50 USD). They're imported so a bit expensive but whatever, I like that route more than Rit Color Remover. I forgot Amazon was a thing here, they only just arrived a few years ago and they were struggling to get a foothold. Seems they're starting to rapidly grow now. Do you think where the benzoyl peroxide has bleached the sheets, might still look a different colour afterwards? Can fabric be left in OWB for TOO long? or after like 10 minutes max has it just done all it's going to do? Really appreciate the help by the way.
