I started my first reverse dye accordion fold today. Actually my first time starting from scratch. I don’t have a small machine to spin out the excess soda ash water and was fearful it would fall apart in my washing machine so I used my spinner on my mop bucket. (Beginners tip)🙏🏽

It looks like an impressionist painting of flowers. Very Victorian looking! Funny that usually when you ice dye you sprinkle a little soda ash on before the ice goes on. I think that not doing it this time made this work better.

That is absolutely stunning! My questions are: in the past, I have seen the dye sprinkled on top of the ice only not on top of the shirt and on top of the ice so is this how you usually do it? The second question is when you say batch for 48 hours. What does that exactly mean? Did you just let it sit there? Did you keep it wet? Mine always seems to dry out. Also my ice melts within about three hours. The result you got was just wonderful and I want to try that so these questions are really important to me. Thank you so much.
@BelladonnaDyesCoАй бұрын
You can do the dye either way. I do. This particular shirt was done how I demonstrated. I set the project aside and let it do its thing for 48 hours. So, I make it Monday, let’s say at noon, Tuesday-24 hours, Wednesday-48 hours and around noon I wash it out. It might dry out at 30 hours… but my schedule doesn’t allow me to get to it. Once the project is dry it’s done. The goal is to keep it damp at least 24 hours at 70°. You can try to use Saran Wrap, foil or a lid to cover it. The longer it batches the better bond and brighter the colors. After the arbitrary number of 48 hours the soda ash and procion dye are no longer interacting so going for 3, 4, 5 days will do absolutely nothing. If you forget about a project and it sits for a week and it’s bone dry, don’t worry, just do the rinse out process as normal. I also make a lot of projects so I am not in rush anymore. Waiting 48 hours is easy. In the beginning I could barely get to the 24 hour mark. Good luck! 🍀♥️🌈
