I watched your commercials all the way. I hope that helps!! 😊 I’m such a rubber band girl. Yeah, I use sinew for the white lines, hearts, mandalas & etc, but if I can avoid the strings I do. Maybe if I try your techniques I’ll have better luck. Thanks for sharing!! ❤️🌈

Oh thank you! It does help a lot!!! I like rubber bands too! Just because they are easier and I definitely love my sinew. Sometimes I don’t prefer the kite string but if I wanna keep something bound nice and tight then kite string is good. Thank you for watching and supporting ☺️🥰

Question: is artificial sinew similar enough to waxed dental floss that I could use that instead? Cuz I happen to have an abundance of dental floss in a flavor I don’t like to use.
@RiahsTieDye3 жыл бұрын
Hi Bianca and thank you for your question. So the waxed dental floss can be used but it is much thinner than sinew so the lines will be considerably smaller. I personally have never used it but I do know others who have. Also I would definitely be careful of cutting yourself with it as well when pulling tight. Hope this helps😊💜
@biancabrooks2803 жыл бұрын
@@RiahsTieDye that sounds like it’d be perfect for dyeing small, thin fabrics like handkerchiefs.

I'm having issues with using sinew on mandalas and when they're untied, the shirt is very stretched out in the center of the mandala. I've washed in hot water and used an iron and there's still a pucker. Any advice? Thanks!
@RiahsTieDye2 жыл бұрын
Oh that’s weird! I’m not really sure but I would maybe wash it a few more times and let it air dry. I don’t really have that problem so I’m not 100% sure.

It's neat hearing others pronounce words. I say sinew with using the Si as in city, with the short I/ ih sound. And new. :3 I've found a neat educational video about sinew by an Indigenous artist to share, if you're interested.

I am new at this and your channel. In reference to the signed you mentioned it's waxed. Could you use a waxed dental floss? Just asking...again I am new so don't know if it would work. Thanks for your videos 💖
@RiahsTieDye3 жыл бұрын
Hi and thank you for your question. So I personally have never used waxed dental floss but I have heard of others using it. The issue I guess is that the floss is so thin that you end up having to wrap it multiple times to create a separation line. I guess my recommendation would be to go right to sinew if it’s an important project…but if you have old material and are just practicing I would give it a try. Hope this helps😊💜

So kite string doesn't leave a white line? I'm just asking cause I tried and it left a line. Can you help me
@RiahsTieDye Жыл бұрын
It’s not suppose too. If there is white it could be maybe you didn’t put enough dye on.

@RiahsTieDye3 жыл бұрын
Hi and thank you for your questions. It’s actually artificial deer tendons. So real sinew is tendon but you can buy it artificial which is what I use. Hope this helps😊. Also if you need to know how to use it I have a video here that shows in detail... kzbin.info/www/bejne/l5yllZeeZ52mhtU

Sinew was created and used by Native Americans. They dried the tendons of deer. and treated it. You can Google how it's done. Native Americans were not wasteful like we are.

Hi. I have become one of your newest subscribers. Only because our Native Americans have always gotten the short end of the stick, I wanted to comment that sinew was invented/created by the Native Americans to hold their arrowheads to the arrow shaft, tying together clothing, and many other items in their culture. So I really think you are doing them a disservice to say sinew is disgusting. Other than that, I love your videos and am learning so much.
@RiahsTieDye3 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for your honesty and the history lesson. I knew what sinew was used for and how it was made but not in quite as much detail as you have enlightened me to. I definitely meant no disservice and perhaps my choice of wording was poor but I do apologize if you felt offended at all. Thank you again and when I’m asked from now on I will be more specific and give credit where credit is due 😊
@LadyCole83643 жыл бұрын
@@RiahsTieDye Riah, you don't need to educate why sinew was invented. If someone asks, you can then proceed to tell them where it originated and why, etc. Thank you for using artificial sinew. Artificial sinew (or your OPINION of deer sinew) is not a disservice to Indigenous People for your tie dying desires. It's okay to have opinions! It makes you, YOU. My husband, as a vegetarian, would agree that using real animal parts for ANYTHING is disgusting and wrong for him, since it's not his way of survival, in this modern era. I, as a Native American, am thankful you're not using natural deer sinew, as a way to keep those who practice craft of traditional pieces, to not have anymore scarcity of the resource. 💖

@@LadyCole8364 thank you so much for this! I just want to make sure I’m not being insensitive to anyone and that I am giving credit where credit is definitely due for such an amazing and useful invention😊💜
