If Cecil can't fix it then it is truly scrap metal. If it is scrap metal, give it to Cecil so he can make something out of it! You freaking amaze me!

Isn't this a form of a babbitt bearing? Were you a millwright?

I have a Massey Ferguson 175 diesel with multi-power, I did the same as you when brush hogging, knocked the oil filter off when a small tree that had the top knocked out of it raised up when I was driving past it and wedged itself enough to snap off the oil filter mounting , being on a Sunday and no places open to get another filter mount, I made a by-pass plate and bolted it to the side of the engine block, the oil pressure afterwards is almost 3 times greater than it was when filter was mounted, evidently the filter had enough restriction to it that kept the pressure just barely above 20 psi when operating temp was reached Gonna have to try your method of repairing the various tie rod ends as mine has excessive play too, Great info ! Multipower if you aren't familiar with them, is that with a regular 4 speed transmission, that has high and low range selector on the side of transmission lever it also has a selector lever on dash of tractor for an additional lower range, actually creating a 12 forward speed and 3 speed reverse. with the transmission in 1st gear, Low and multi-power selector in Low, the tractor is unstoppable even at idle speed. The only bad drawback to Multi-power is when it is in the Low position, there is NO ENGINE braking when descending a hill, it is like you put the transmission in Neutral, you WILL go to the barn in short order! LOL

My old Massey has been apart for most of the summer, my clutch stopped disengaging when I pushed in the clutch pedal, turned out the bolts on my pressure plate that get pushed by my release bearing were worn out and one worked it's way in, I am just waiting for warmer weather to put it back together lol. I will give you some words of caution on oil pressure though... Remember you do not need high oil pressure in an engine you just need volume, if your oil pressure went up with the new plate you made that may just mean you restricted the from getting pumped through your engine making your oil pump work harder. Remember when oiling an engine you want volume of not pressure. Hope this helps, take care ttyl :-)

The by-pass plate I made up was machined on a Bridgeport milling machine and was machined from a 1 inch thick plate of steel, to a width and depth of 3/4 inch (20 mm) by 3/4 (20 mm) deep, and should supply plenty of oil since if I remember right the holes that supplied the filter and then on to the engine was about 1/2 (13 mm) in diameter. I am all too familiar with engines, my father was a mechanic and I have been working on engines for more than 50 years myself

Sounds good, I am a mechanic as well, I just assumed when you said your oil pressure went up 3 times higher with your homemade plate than with the filter it would stand to reason you have more restriction now? Take care :-)

I don't know how the 165 Massey is plumbed for the oil supply to engine but on the 175, the oil pressure gauge is on the output side of the filter, so in my opinion the original filter was evidently restricting the pressure somehow, before it was broken off, the oil pressure when idling with oil at operating temp only showed around 20 lbs of pressure at any rpm of engine, now it shows that there is approx. 55 lbs pressure at idle when warmed up and will rise to 60 to 65 lbs. when throttling up. The gauge is right as I had temporarily put another on to see if I was getting a faulty reading, the new gauge read the same

Was just wondering how the repair has held up. I got to repair the end on the Steering Cylinder on a MF 245. Thinking about using grade 2 babbitt instead of solder. Should be better wear. Thanks

Hello Chris. The repair is still working great... I mean when you think about it most new vehicles only have Teflon in their ball joints and tie rod ends. Thanks again. You take care ttyl... Cheers 🌞

Cecil, just wanted say thanks once more for the video. Got the steering cylinder seals install and both joints on the cylinder repaired this past weekend. Working great. Saved having to buy a new cylinder ( over $500).

Hi Cecil thank you for sharing your knowledge with us. I just broke a piece off my rod iron bench and I how I could fix it? I bought the bench 25 years ago and I was just getting ready to take it all apart and put some new boards and refinish the whole thing and unfortunately I dropped it down at an angel and part of the iron that attaches to the bench split in half! It is about 1 inch long accross. Do you think soldering it would fix it? The bench only cost me $3000 so it's really just has sentimental value to me and if I could fix it I would rather fix it than replacing the bench. But I don't want to go to a great deal of expense any suggestions Cecil? I thought about trying to bolt it together somehow but I'm not experienced at metalwork. Any advice would be appreciated. Have a beautiful day I love watching you do your videos and sharing your experience keep up the good work.
