@@KFloTacoma KFLO so I did a 3/2 lift with JBA UCA’s on 2021 Tacoma SR5 RWD. I went with a 285/70/17. I’ve had it aligned several times but do t think it’s right. On the HWY it drives fine, tracks good no pull. When I turn onto a gravel road, rail road tracks or bumps at lower speeds the steering wheel moves like crazy? Any ideas?

My passenger side tie rod is leaking fluid. Soon as you said “need wheel alignment” I rolled my eyes. Just replaced my lower control arms and had an alignment check [using your DIY video]. But I’ll be damned if I have to go in for another alignment lol! It is inevitable at this point...

Haha yeh this guy is hard-core.😂 But only arrogant people and those who don't have a sense of humor would be offended. This guy (as we can all see) is very educated, he knows his shit but he adds a bit of entertainment as well to his videos to make the learning process fun. Sure he may have been a teacher at 1 point. 🤭

Just replaced both outers using Moog Problem Solver Asia Tech. Pretty easy to do. For some reason, the passenger's side outer tie rod is threaded or screwed in more causing me to be able to turn to the right tighter but allows tire to rub on frame. I bought 1.25" Spidertrax wheel spacers to solve that prob.

Thanks for your video. It turns out the inner tie rod is really loose and worn out and I followed along with this video. The most time consuming part is folding the washer. It turns out it is easier to just use a channel plier to bend it.

Got a 2000 prerunner, need to do the inner and outer tie rods, I was trying to break em loose with a large adjustable wrench I'm gonna have to try a good pipe wrench, I might be able to put a cheater bar on the end to get it to break loose

Is there a reason you don't use a screwdriver to get that inner clamp off? It would seem a long flathead screwdriver could work as well

Thanks for all your content. At 340k mi, I was surprised to find my inner and outter tie rods in great shape as well as the outer ball joint boot. The ball joint was still really stiff no play and the inner tie rod had no play, but very easy to move around unlike then new moog unit. I had already ordered new pairs, so I’m about to install them. Upon inspecting the new inner tie rod, it looks as if there isn’t much grease. Should I add grease? I noticed you did in the video without mention. I’m reading everywhere you don’t grease the inner tie rod and leave it alone. I’m overthinking it like everything else, but I’m a bit concerned about mixing different types of grease. Any guidance would be much appreciated!

The inner tie rod does come pregreased but it doesn't hurt to add more in my opinion. I just used wheel bearing grease in mine.

My tacoma hasn't gotten enough miles to need to go through replacing the tie rods I believe. I happened to find that one of the rubber boots had torn open and I have no idea how long ago it happened. Would I be able to just separate the tie rod and replace the boot without having to replace the tie rods as well?
@KFloTacoma
@KFloTacoma 4 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately not. Tie rods are cheap enough to buy ($30 for the outer) that it's not worth it to just replace the boot.
@joshuaslomba971
@joshuaslomba971 3 жыл бұрын
@@KFloTacoma I saw moog sells an entire set for tacoma's including inner and outer tie rods, as well as ball joints for roughly 300, which was a good bit cheaper than buying all separately. Even though you probably don't need all of that, if you're doing one tie rod, you might as well do the one on the opposite side, and the other parts are things that will likely eventually need replacement. All depends on your budget etc, wish I had seen it before buying the tie rods alone.

see 5:22 for the castle nut if you're talking about the jam nut, hand tighten is good enough. If you're talking about the inner tie rod, there's a locking ring and loctite, hand tight is good enough as well

How do you know you need a new tie rod?
@KFloTacoma
@KFloTacoma 4 жыл бұрын
Usually if you hear a popping in the suspension when your braking or going over bumps, you have a ball joint that's on its way out. Then I just start replacing ball joints from easiest replacement to hardest, so that's: tie rod, UCA then LCA. Each replacement, i listen and make sure the popping noise has gone away. I'll put a video together going into more detail with other diagnosis methods and maintenance intervals

are the threads clean? did you use antiseize? once the conical portion of the tie rod sits in the steering knuckle, it prevents it from spinning.
