Mr. Toyota Maintenance, please show the cleaning process and also the grease used for the tie rod. I feel that process is just as important. Thanks for the informative video my friend!

Peter:If you put a hose clamp behind the nut after you loosen it the clamp will keep the nut in exact position.

Home Depot and Lowe’s carry 11” stainless cable ties (zip ties) . I have been using them for outdoor projects for years and they are very durable

Planned obsolescence. I remember early VW Bug swing axle boots were split on the top so removal and installation was very simple.

Just want to say that I love your channel and have learned so much from you! My 2015 tacoma is going strong at over 320,000 miles now! (I drive a lot 🤪) Going to make that million mile club one day and I’m pretty sure some decent credit will go to so many of your videos I’ve learned from in helping me get there one day. You’ve helped me keep my truck healthy and happy and gotten me through so diy repairs with a breeze. Love my tacoma and so appreciate your videos!! They’re fantastic

I don't like plastic compared to metal, but I must admit, I am consistently surprised at the toughness and resiliency of some polymers and plastics. I would not discount the effectiveness of the humble zip-tie in a lot off situations. I had many on my 15 - 20 year old vehicles that have held up remarkably well. I will be interested to see if you are able to monitor their effectiveness in this application as well as the rubber boot itself from NAPA.

When I change my oil every 5000 miles , while using a mechanics lift . I liberally spray all the rubber components / parts underneath with 303 Protectant . To resist them from drying out and cracking .

Thanks for this video. This very morning I did this on the passenger side of my 2009 Tacoma 2WD Base. So glad I saw this video because as of this morning I had planned on pulling the outer tie rod. This was way easier approach (about an hour) and didn't risk destroying the tie rod. Thanks!

Those plastic ties last forever, as long as they aren't flexed in frigid temperatures, or exposed to UV. Quality ties have a METAL tooth in the latch.
@catsupchutney
@catsupchutney 2 жыл бұрын
I have encountered lousy ones that shattered over one winter, and good ones that last years. I'd expect if the NAPA type ties were just as good as metal one at lower cost, then Toyota would have made the switch in their OE part.

What brand of cleaner was used to clean out old dirt and grease out of parts inside the rod and rack boot?
@LAactor
@LAactor 2 жыл бұрын
Sometimes you can do the metal clamp in a way to reuse it. But it is a risk and only to be done if no other clamps are available. The parts problem could be big. They say there are so many cargo freighters offshore in the largest ports around the coastlines. The government wants it this way to control us. I hear you about the shortage. That beer van behind you has been sitting there for many many days. I hope your neighbor who owns that can is not thinking you're taking his van and not working on it. The part is just not there! But some suggestion, next time put the wrenches opposite. The nut for this side higher and the inner rod lower and just push the wrenches together. It would be easier than pulling each one in opposite directions. Unless you like the feel of the torque that way. Maybe the suggestion can help someone else work easier.

Thank you for making this video. I was able to EASILY replace both steering rack boots on my '03 Tacoma. The new boots came with plastic zip ties, but instead I used a couple Band-it clamps one the large ends. I was noticing your accent. Are you from the north west Germany of North Rhine-Westphalia?
