Especially since I don't think we had ever actually seen Gohan use it yet, yet one of the people he listed was Gohan. Unless my memory is wrong, I'm pretty sure the very first time Gohan ever used the Kamehameha was against Cell. Prior to that, he always used the Masenko (which, to be fair, Ocean had dubbed to be Kamehameha).

@@gurvmlk Ocean didn’t dub it as the Kamehame-Ha; they just carried over a mistake in the same scene in the Japanese version where Gohan calls it the Kamehame-Ha when he fires it at Vegeta. Ocean dubbed it as the Power Beam, both in the series and in their uncut dub of Tree of Might.

@@gurvmlk Yeah, it’s quite funny, and since I usually watch original Z subbed, I just pass it off as a 5 year old kid who simply got the names fudged. I mean, Goten called it the Kamekame-Ha in the Boo arc, and TFS made a joke about that in the Boo Bits. (Turtle Turtle Wave)

He taught it to Grandpa Gohan and Yamcha. Goku, Krillin and Tien Shinhan learned it by imitation. In other media, Piccolo and Vegeta have done it too.

Everyone was surprised by Tien here, but I was more shocked that Master Roshi made the wave bounce right off of him in the series first.

@@faraztahir7169 Because Tien was stronger than the form Roshi was using here, although Roshi has more experience & techniques. Roshi's base is 139, but he can call on more power like he did here by upgrading his muscle density - it made him increase his power level to 180. Tien was at 186, think Goku was at 195 at least. Goku would've needed to be in order to defeat Mercenary Tao as Mercenary Tao had a power level of 189. But when Roshi destroyed the Moon a few year's earlier, he was at full power I assume. So Roshi can just call on more power if he wanted to & dominated Tien. Roshi's full power form must be at least 10000 I think. But Roshi was more interested in defeating the Crane Hermit by making Tien experience the adulation of winning the tournament, so that Tien turned on his abusive older master. So he chose to let Tien win voluntarily, which threw Tien into confusion because Tien knew that Roshi's full power form when he destroyed the Moon a few year's earlier was incredibly strong.

@@faraztahir7169 Well Roshi admitted he would've lost to Tien, which was not true as Tien correctly stated. But the truth is that he wasn't interested in winning, Roshi only entered tournament's to beat his student's because giving them the title would cause them to lose their humility & stop pushing themselves to be stronger. Roshi thought the contrary to this with Tien because Tien had only lived a life of people hating him, so Roshi wanted to show Tien adulation so that he could see the benefit's that come with it & leave Tien to decide which life he prefers to live.

It might be because the Kamehameha doesn't work against someone who's mastered it and uses it regularly. Krillin used it during his fight with Goku, but he just blocked it without any effort. Later on in DBZ, Kid Buu uses it against Goku, but it has no effect

Roshi's career as a teacher began with Gohan and the Ox King. He then had Goku and Kuririn. They led to Yamcha, Tien, and Chiatzu studying under him. So, roughly 70% of the Z warriors can trace their foundational knowledge back to Roshi. Even Chichi, who was, herself, taught by her father.

What I really loved about this is that Master Roshi was helping Tien be a force for good rather than be led down to a path of evil. A shame that Tien’s character development in Dragonball was wasted

I feel like power levels are mostly to blame. Most of Tien's personality and development were always centered around getting stronger. So when the gap in power became too great, everything about who he was became obsolete.

@@gurvmlk no. It’s more like creative neglect of key characters in Dragonball. Toriyama after awhile just went by what would be most popular or trending more with his creation rather than being in depth with how he was before the Saiyans arrived. After the Saiyan saga his creativity wasn’t as expansive as it was previously but his character building was unique in how he made it advance with the story. Other than that, DB just never was the same

People don't understand that? I say it that way all the time. It simply rolls off the tongue more smoothly, which is probably also why the actors themselves oftentimes say it like that unless using the technique. Whereas when actually using it, there's greater emphasis put into each syllable, rather than flowing it all into one word. Hell, even with real words, English is filled to the brim with people mispronouncing things on a daily basis from what I've observed, simply because certain words don't flow very well with their proper pronunciations. You have any idea how many times in my life I've heard people say "probly" instead of "probably?"

Well anyone from Turtle School can Learn it Just as anyone from Crane School can learn the Dondon Ray Martial arts skills in the world of dragon ball are usually exclusive to the schools where they’re taught The Kamehameha was a Turtle Exclusive, and Tien broke precedent by learning it on his own and attempted to use it against Roshi It’s more of a matter of honor that the technique was stolen That’s why Goku apologizes each time he copies moves of his friends

Kamehameha’s looked so cool in DB and early DBZ. I mean just how the Ki ball was drawn and then when it became a beam, it looks so beautiful and visceral. Nowadays they just look like generic blue lines with a ball. There was something special and powerful about how these early Kamehamehas were drawn. Like, I don’t even know if this kamehameha can destroy a moon, yet it feels so much more powerful than the “universe busting” Kamehamehas we see now.
