Tier List: Iron Hills & Army of Thror (Ft Conquest Creations)

Some how we convinced Jacob to step down outside the 10k club to join us in another video, this time helping us sort out a few hobbit era Dwarves on a tier list.

Well this is what i use at 500 points. And i love it! Warband 1 thror (leader) 16 grimhammers (guadrians of the king) Warband 2 Captain of Erebor (shield) 12 Warriors of Erebor (shield + Spear) 497 Points 30 Models

Great video guys. I think army of Thror should really have archers of some kind at least! It's just one more troop type. They could honestly just sell them in a blister and I'd still buy them.

I kinda like the difference between Khazad-Dum and Army of thror being the bow aspect, tho AoT also gets access to waaaaay more might than K-D -Liam

What you can do is ally army of thror with dale because they're green allies and Dale has bows.

I'd rather ally with iron hills gets you cavalry and that crossbow unit. Dale is a great ally it really depends on play style and preference.

To build an army of this I would get a box of erebor warriors, a box of grim hammers thror and thrain, thorn and convert a grim hammer into a captain. This makes an 800 to 850 point list.

as a dedicated khazad dum player, it pisses me off slightly that army of thror get TWO different versions of 'better durin' for -40 points. i love th guy, but 160 plus HG upgrade costs stings a little more now🤣

It’s not that the chariot is hard to use it’s that it needs some FAQ as I and many others have requested for years now. It was mentioned it’s easy to surround but this is why I always take the chariot with a captain and dain in high points matches as it’s now hard to charge your heroes into the chariot once it has might and if you fail you will suffer badly. A huge part of it falls down to how well you can deploy it. As for mattocks they are super handy to flesh out and get all your points filled. Sometimes it’s worth dropping a few spear guys to get even better numbers as numbers is something an expensive army like iron hills suffers from. They can be super handy to keep near dain or other heroes that might be targeted to come and and put down a sneaky bash.

Similar to Isengard Crossbows, Crossbows with spears are at least A Tier if not S Tier for me!

The big upside to isengard crossbows is the ability to shoot into combat. The ironhill crossbows can't. If you are playing static, sitting and not moving yes they would definitely be in A tier. But spread across all the scenarios you can't just sit still the whole game. They are where they belong -Sean

W/young Thorin, Dwalin, and Balin currently oos, how would you build the army beyond Thror, Thrain, and a box of GHs?

Not so easy with Dealing and Balin but using Thorins co version of them works well enough, but if conversion needed for Balin and Dealing but the Thorins works out the box really -Liam

I’m a year late to the party but I had a question. Is disliking heroic march a result of the veto system being so popular and being able to eliminate the scenarios where it’s useful, or do you think Heroic March is less than optimal even when rolling randomly without the veto system?

Its just an overrated heroic action, it's nice to have in certain situations but too many people compromise the make up if their army to get it into their list. It's nice, but not necessary -Liam

Don't have to sell organs if you 3rd print it 😘 Personally I really like it, ran all mounted with all the big boys that can be mounted and it slaps really hard if you're rolling alright, can get stomped if your dice betray you however If it's just Iron Hills so Dain and Captains I'm not sure how well it goes tbh -Liam

Need is very strong reaction. March is a cool tool to have, and 100% has a place but absolutely you don't need march, in alot of cases it's a waste of might. Good deployment and movement is just as good as march. Id never make sure I have march in a list, but if I have it due to my hero selection awesome, if not no stress. it may get used once every 6-7 games if I have it and is also scenario dependent. -Sean

@@NoobsandMen thnx for the reply, and I agree it is not a thing you use alot, but it can win games lategame to steal objectives etc. After a legendary hero, i always add a march. In dwarves thats usually a captain, so on that note i follow Alistair kings school of dwarving. I rate them over named killy heroes i suppose on that note(march). But other than that, i agree with your list.

Hot take: IH is bad as a faction. Dain and the Ballista are bonkers but 12 points, slow warriors with low-ish fight just don't cut it

Having been playing some War if the ring era Erebor Reclaimed I can say I really don't agree the d8 wall you can build from them where they live through just about anything while your heroes cut sick, they're great little tanks -Liam

@@NoobsandMen Fair point. To me, they have too many problems to make up for with their heroes. They move slowly and cost a lot per piece, so you're not fielding a lot of warriors UNLESS you skip on the Ballista and the great heroes (apart from the auto take that is Dain). If you're fielding a lot of warriors you're just worse army of the dead (or maybe more like Return of the King) with high defense, low fight models but no fast models apart from very costly and quite slow goats. On the other hand, with a lot of great heroes and the Ballista you have so few models you'll just get trapped and eventually die to numbers. Also, the Ballista hits on 4s with no rerolls and that makes me mad 😂😂
