I think you should read "I Keep My Exoskeletons to Myself". It's my favorite book of the year so far and not enough people have heard of it. It's kind of dystopian, a little sci-fi, very (very) queer, and the writing is super lyrical.

I can agree with most of this list (I am one of those people who adored Half a Soul, lol) except you came out of nowhere with Murder Your Employer and The Last Word-- both being not just 1 stars for me, but both in my worsts of 2023 list 😓 I think I hate The Last Word more if push came to shove? The disastrous mental illness rep, the "lonely sweaty virgin" bullshit, and the subpar writing (_especially in the book within a book_).... I do not understand even a little how so many of yall loved this book??? Fully accept that I'm in the minority here, but I just can't see it even a little

for me the writing retreat was ruined by the audio book. why did the audio book narrator speak like the whole book was a sex scene.....? idk how to explain it. the whole entire audio book was narrated in this really weird and breathy voice and it took me out of it cause I was cringing so badly. I might try and read it on kindle if I can.
