*This comment will be updated with games I play in the future from 2024 that are not in this video:* *Creature Caravan:* Such a cool game. We've only played it once so far, but despite how light it is and how there is ZERO interaction, we had so much fun! I really do think this is his best game yet. (A Rank) Maybe even (S Rank). Not sure yet. *Mass Effect:* I'm not the biggest fan so far, but maybe it will grow on me. We're just drudging through a campaign now and I'm not sure everyone is having a good time. (C Tier) *Wonderous Creatures:* This was a fun one. But I didn't see the Everdale killer this game is being said to be. It was enjoyable; however, the abstract map portion of the game didn't feel particularly rewarding or interesting. We're going to keep playing, but for now I think this game is sitting at a B *Skyrise:* I was so skeptical of this one. I'm not very interested in bidding; however, this game did it right by providing so many different things to bid for and strategies to employ beyond simply bidding for one thing. We've only played three time, but I'm looking forward to reviewing this one. I'd give this one an A for now. *Harrow County:* What a unique and beautiful game. It's rare you actually get a game that's creative these days but this one is just that. It does asymmetric two player battle in an interesting manner that is very engaging and enjoyable. The game constantly feels tense, as if you're just a few turns from losing or winning at any given moment. This one is an A tier game so far and it actually made it into Kim's top 10 of the year, so check that video out! *Note:* if any of the games in this tier list interest you, you can support the channel by buying them from Amazon using our affiliate links; however, you really should just buy games wherever they're cheaper and used if you can! Save your cash!

Reviews are subjective and no game on BGG is universally liked. Some people get too sensitive on critical reviews of games they like… This is only going to lead to content creators only posting reviews with scores of ‘8’ or higher. Great video - Appreciate the honesty and the bold attempt at ranking all the games u played this year even if we don’t always agree. E.g. Agricola is one of my fav games 😅

I expected you to trash on a game I liked... But I did not expect you to create a new category and completely dunk on it. I actually agree with most of this list but I am confused by the vitriol for Harvest. You plant seeds once, grow them as many times as you want (including zero times), and when you harvest everything must be picked up. So if you're growing multiple times between harvests, then the tile placement is super impactful. You want crop variety for better bonuses, but that variety can cause problems when you run it off adjacent spots for each crop type. I can see how that may not be exciting, but upsetting? Weird.
@TabletopTurtleАй бұрын
Have you ever watched a Hallmark Christmas movie and got irrationally upset with the film and how purposely bland it is and how it intentionally tries to produce mechanical emotional responses from you? No? Just me? That's how I feel about Harvest. Honestly, I think my dislike for the game simply comes from knowing the designer's other games and how he tries new and crazy stuff and yet here all we have is a worker placement game where it felt like all of my turns were pre-scripted. Am I a little harsh? Oh 100 percent! Our approach to this channel has always been to treat the viewer as a friend who stumbled into our house to hear our rambling on games that hopefully are articulate, insightful, and at times a little emotional. NO PR speak.

I ordered harmonies because of your review then returned it to Amazon before I even unwrapped it. 🤣 Never make rash decisions after watching KZbin videos. I think I saw it as MPS and changed my mind. Also people saying Azul was still better. I’m saving my money for Civolution. I considered Robin Hood for months, but I read that there’s just way too much luck involved. I watched an online game where Robin Hood lost basically due to bad die roles then I changed my mind.
@TabletopTurtleАй бұрын
I'm flattered and frightened 🤣 You should just try it out on Board Game Arena first! I think our issue with Azul is that we've played it so much that maybe it has lost its luster, but we'll likely never get rid of it. I consider them different enough puzzles to keep it, Cascadia, and Harmonies. That's funny because I've seen people complain about Robin Hood being too strong. I haven't encountered balance issues so far, just lots of fun.

@@TabletopTurtle Looking forward to some of those, daitoshi's one i've not made my mind up on yet. But there's nuggets in there making me want to revisit. But the first two Dani Garcia games hooked me for their highly interactive take on New Euros imo. Daitoshi & Windmill valley were a little too sparse on that aspect for me I hope that laid off situation gets better for you or is manageable, wishing you the best
@TabletopTurtleАй бұрын
@@HeyImBode I enjoyed Daitoshi and Windmill. I think I like Windmill more; however, I really like Dani's approach to competitive game design where there are always these elements of almost pseudo-cooperation. In Daitoshi you build the board together and it provides a neat way to interact with other players and not feel like you're solving your own little puzzle.
@HeyImBodeАй бұрын
@@TabletopTurtle I do love me a game where we build the board. But I think my challenge atm is that I've had great games this year I've given the cold shoulder. Andromeda's edge is definitely my best game of the year; Arcs is definitely my worst. No one I've played Arcs with will ever play it again; every single one of them, except those I played with online, refuse. Everyone who's played Andromeda's edge at least liked it if they didn't love it. I backed both; AE is exactly what I backed. Arcs is almost nothing like what I backed, and what I backed was better. I want my money back. I'll never buy anything from Leder games or made by Cole Wehrle again; they've burnt away any trust I had in them.

What's funny is that Kim and I are in the process of putting together our review of Arcs and I love it and she despises it.

Interesting to me that people would watch a review video and get upset that you have opinions that contradict theirs. Anyway, excellent video!

I so think you missed the point of Harvest, and the way you trashed it turned me off hard from caring about the rest of the video fwiw. It’s a tightness of actions game, and transparent-ish in vp compared to most euros. Not amazingly innovative, but feels streamlined and focused and works, qualities I value more as I sour on complexity myself. To each his own, not S tier I agree, but that was a pretty bad take imho. I roast hard on the baggy opaque complexity of many popular choices, but I tend to get why they are loved. Harvest can be too gateway+ for personal tastes I get, but being so offended by it just made me confused?
@TabletopTurtleАй бұрын
No, I didn't miss the point of the game. Some people want to swim in a puddle and I can understand that; however, I think you're associating a "tightness" of actions with what is actually an overwhelming reduction in player agency, to the point where the game becomes the cardboard equivalent of one of those clicker app games. Streamlined and focused doesn't need to be mechanically and strategically vapid. It's not a bad take, it's simply one you disagree with and that's okay. I mean, hell, brainless app games are popular for a reason and while I might not understand the appeal, I can't deny that there are those who love them.
@jamesabeleАй бұрын
@@TabletopTurtlecalling it brainless and shallow is definitely an opinion, and a pretty condescending one. I think you DEFINITELY missed the point with your comments about watering and polyomino complexity and are writing off the depth here. Yes, it’s restrictive as worker placement games inherently are but ok

kzbin.info/www/bejne/q2HadZeHjK9oe7M&ab_channel=TabletopTurtle C - I guess Primal is as good as Oath
@bryceb8331Ай бұрын
@ it’s your channel. And we can agree to disagree. But Oathsworn is a solid A in every way - provided you like boss battlers and dungeon crawls which it appears you don’t, which is fine. Fantastic story, fantastic and innovative combat system, awesome boss designs ( abilities and figurines), tough decisions, surprises along the way, and even great voice acting. Not sure what else you could ask from a game like this, which I guess is my point. I do find your reviews insightful with other genres. Glad you liked andromeda’s edge. Amazing game. But in the end - as I said it’s your channel and your opinions are valid. But I get to disagree as well ;) editing after reflection - in some ways it’s a glowing endorsement for Primal since you’ve said it’s not your favorite genre. And maybe it’s actually a more valuable review than others gushing about Oathsworn or Primal because it landed a C when you don’t like the genre much. So I’m pivoting in my thinking and appreciate your opinion.

Ok maybe i got a bit salty so i give it a B. Kind of weird that Wyrmspan got compared to a direct to video disney release. ouch...funny but stil ouch. Techicnly a better game then wingspan. more polished and less luck then the birdfeeder dice thing. Unconcious Mind would be higher for me. Navoria is what it is but also higher for me. Not a but not that low. Civolution is what hurt the most. Specially when you ssay it is mid to heavy? no it is heavy. and actions being a little samey. all the actions are different. If i have one gripe about is that actually. the rest of the ranking i think it is fine for the reasons you gave.

@@HALOX30Civolution is a medium heavy to heavy euro-style game that utilizes a dice selection mechanism to trigger actions on a tech tree-like structure. As you figure out how to best use your dice and put your unique cards into play, tons of strategies and paths to victory emerge, though each time you play, you will only explore a fraction of the possibilities that the game’s system and many cards provide. -description from the publisher
