Tatiana Maslany, TIFF Rising Stars alumna and critically acclaimed star of television's Orphan Black, joins Toronto International Film Festival Artistic Director Cameron Bailey for an onstage conversation about her diverse film career and rapid rise to stardom.
Tatiana Maslany was born in Regina. Her starring role in Grown Up Movie Star (10) won her the World Cinema Special Jury Prize for Acting at the Sundance Film Festival. Selected as a TIFF Rising Star at the 2012 Toronto International Film Festival, Maslany went on to earn best performance awards at the 2012 Whistler International Film Festival and the 2013 ACTRA Awards for her role as a troubled teenager in Picture Day (12). Her feature credits also include Violet & Daisy (11), The Vow (12), Blood Pressure (12), Cas and Dylan (14), and Woman in Gold (15). She has garnered numerous accolades for her role on the critically acclaimed Canadian sci-fi series Orphan Black (13-), including Critics' Choice Television Awards and Canadian Screen Awards for best lead actress in a drama series, as well as Golden Globe, Emmy, and SAG Award nominations. Maslany's upcoming feature work includes a starring role opposite Jake Gyllenhaal in Stronger (16), based on a memoir by a Boston Marathon bombing survivor; Oscar-nominated director Kim Nguyen's Two Lovers and a Bear (16) alongside Dane DeHaan; and The Other Half (16).

She's just such an inspiration. She's humble, polite and honest. What I like most is that she doesn't act like a "star". She is just a normal, down to earth person that is talking about her job.

The poor girl looks exhausted here. She's obviously an extremely talented actress, but I'm really impressed with how great of a human being she is.

This interview made me love Tatiana even more. It really shows she had a great upbringing in her youth and that has provided a moral center for her. She's so humble and such a wonderful and gracious actress and person. This interview went a lot more in depth than most interviews I've seen with her and her talk about acting and doing nude scenes were really great to hear. I'm looking forward to season four of Orphan Black and to continue to follow her in her career. She is the definition of a role model. I wish we had gotten to see the clips. I guess there are copyright issues but they are even there for short clips? I wanted to see the trailers for that bear movie. Despite that, great interview.

watching Orphan Black, for me, leads me to questions of the soul and who we all are really. Maybe we are all just one being with 8 billion different expressions of one being. I have seen many past lives of my own and experiencing the energy change that is tangable while watching the show is exactly how I feel when feeling myself in different bodies and environments. I can say this show has helped me understand more of the psychology of being am eternal spirit on this planet. Thank you for bringing this much needed information to the planet at this time of awakening and transformation. Tatiana must be an indigo child who is sharing this information with her gifts and passion.

Such a wonderful and insightful interview. But it must be frustrating for Tatiana to be asked the same boring questions multiple times and have to seem interested and fresh in your response. The "how do you get into character" question is one that bugs me senseless - she's done a billion interviews answering this. If you're such a 'fan' do you research. But other than that, Tatiana is such a unique and inspiring talent. Very excited for season four, with or without Delphine.

She was filming the day before? Dang. She seemed a bit tired here, hopefully they aren't running her down too much. Can't wait till Season 4. The storyline, especially for Sarah, is going to be so intense.
