To me, SM is like the medical school of trainee systems. All are like universities, but med school is _way_ more intense and demanding. Most don't finish, but those who do are literal surgeons in their fields. JYP is "feel", YG is "swag", SM is "technical". Maybe we should call her Dr. Young? ;)

Tiffany is from what ppl call the 2nd generation of Kpop. 1st generation was in the 90s and it was mostly in Korea. 2nd generation was in the 2000s, where social media began so they were responsible for the birth of kpop niche genre outside Korea/Asia. They call it the "Hallyu Wave". Kdrama is also a huge part of the Hallyu wave too. 3rd generation is right now, continuing it and are now breaking the mainstream in the west. 4th generation is coming up and who knows what records and history is gonna be made.
@ILYLexi136 жыл бұрын
I would say 2004/2005 is where second gen started because BOA in 2001 was definitely first generation and identifies with most of those older groups and was the beginning of the kpop aspect of the hallyu as she really dove into Japan and before social media's huge wave. Also the Hallyu wave was not just kpop. It was the spread of Korean culture and even dramas and movies and people.

Tbh most fans are pretty intuitive when it comes to their fave's personalities and emotions. Back when Tiffany was under SM you could still see and feel her personality so clearly and that's why so many people connected to her. Taeyeon, whose still under SM and is one of their most successful idols to date, shares her feelings of depression and anxiety and antisocialness all the time and that is arguably what has made her such a fan favorite.

There was little detail but well, I can relate that it's hard to come out with that..
@gotwa2296 жыл бұрын
Zach was looking for an inside scoop -- kind of a tell all revelation. The thing that Zach is unaware of is that for all of Tiffany's and the group's success, she is NOT management, therefore, she literally has no idea of what's going on management-wise with GG, or with how SM really does business. When you are an employee in a Korean company, it's strictly a head-down, nose-to-the-grindstone affair. Zach''s leading questions regarding what he thinks is the Korean idol industry is really just his own biases. He really doesn't know how these girl groups are management, let alone how companies like SM Entertainment do business. To Tiffany's credit, though, it's clearly obvious she doesn't really know either, and is still too close to the group and SM to give it any perspective.

Just watch Amber Liu of f(x)'s more critical, forthright, and revealing interview on CBS This Morning. Recall how SM appeared to have abandoned Tiffany, when she posted Japan's flag accidentally. You're correct that Tiffany certainly wasn't ready to spill the beans or castigate the KPop industry. This is quite an unprecedented move for girls groups in kpop but with their teamwork and unity, it is definitely possible to see SNSD continue to thrive in a transnational and multi-label environment.* *Even now, SNSD is planning to release a new subunit and Tiffany, Sooyoung and Seohyun have new plans, dramas and movies lining up for their upcoming activities too. At 26:40, Zach talked about people wanting to see people they could be friends with. Girls Generation literally paved the way for girl groups who on tv shows showed their real selves. They were not afraid to make a fool of themselves and they were hilarious and relatable. Just watch early Soshi reality tv. I (and many fans) connected with girls who had a bond. I do think as years went by Soshi started to feel like they had to keep up a reputation though.

Don't blame everything on the "'idol' creating companies". They are merely a reflection of Korean society. It's not the companies that wanted 'perfection', per say, but the public itself. It's the public that bashes idols for dating, not the companies. The companies are just trying to protect their stock.(See Hyuna's recent experience with the public after admiting she was dating, even though she's 26!)
@hyoyeonsblondehair43156 жыл бұрын
harlemw651 KPOP's platform now is not primarily based in Korea anymore, which was the case when it started. The companies are proud of how KPOP has become a global thing now, but still refuse to cater to, and I dare say, a great part of the population they cater to--- the international fans, which is what they talked about in the interview.
@Vakarianify6 жыл бұрын
They are the ones perpetuating it though. The companies are going 'look at what we can create' which does nothing to help the high standard of Korean society. You grow what you feed so to speak. Public opinion is HIGHLY influenced by the media. The companies know exactly what they're doing -- they create these groups and they feel close to you, right? You feel like you know them because they're modest and personal (vs. American celebrities who are huge and feel WAY out of reach), that is why fans feel entitled over these groups and scream the 'you can't date because then it doesn't feel like I am close to you anymore!'
@harlemw6516 жыл бұрын
Sydney W Entertainment CAN have a big effect on society, but only to a society that's open to change. As much as some things have changed in Korea, the k-pop fans (of Korea) still seem pretty close-minded. I'm not saying the companies couldn't do more to sway public opinion, but you can't put ALL the responsibility on their shoulders. The society a company operates in must be open to change as well. The people of that society must share some of the responsibility of change, not just wait until the media forces them to.
@harlemw6516 жыл бұрын
UglyASMR lol "Tiffany ain't trying to make Korea kill her twice". It may be deep for some but at some point people have to look at the larger issues going on in K-pop/Korea. I'm not saying it has to be Tiffany but interviewers and artists who have "broken free" from the K-pop system shouldn't naively blame everything on the companies because it removes personal responsibility from fans, idols, artists, etc that take part in toxic aspects of the culture. You can't just blame the companies if you support the culture behind it, that feeds it and that makes it what it is today. I don't think K-pop fans are too young or naive to understand that. Staying silent about it helps toxic aspects of the culture continue. Pointing at the company is one thing, but look deeper at the society it's feeding.
@trouvaille15586 жыл бұрын
I believe she repeated more than once "I will take you to Korea" not "you have to say this to the idol' creating companies" she knows the society is part of it, we know too.

27:37 PREACH!! OMG ZACH !! @SMTOWN He crack your code. I've been a fan of Kpop (SONE) since 2008 and I can assure u, SNSD is the starter of idols with sns era (they're not the first but they make it popular among idols).. and SNSD are all about being human.. they're always called for breaking their image by being silly, and they cry when it's really tough, interviews, reality shows. Even their own company's CEO (Kim Young Min) once said SNSD has a limit when they wouldn't be needed by the company anymore.. back then a lot predict their popularity would gone after The Boys... BUT THEY CONTINUE PROVING EVERYONE WRONG. They strive not just being a decade group but actually being at the top for a decade! Now even the company admit they can't let go of SNSD coz the brand is still highly valued by people. You might think this is silly but I really gonna go long with them coz they influenced my 10s, 20s, and (probably) 30s. #GG4EVA

Some people might not understand why Tiffany is acting like having feelings is the craziest thing on earth or making small problems everyone faces in to big deals it’s because she was so used to really being perfect and pollished as she was in an old group were no one liked authenticity back in those times and she finally just got to show herself and let loose to the world and I’m sure she’s trying to get comfortable to her new and improved life! 💖

This was great, I was never a huge SNSD fan but I really enjoyed listening to her experience in the industry. I absolutely love that she's breaking out and doing what she wants, Zach hit the head on the nail when he said people want authenticity not robots. The whole kpop industry is beginning to understand this and its great to see. Artists like Bigbang, B.A.P, Block B, BTS, and many others really helped redefine what being an idol by making their music their own, not what the company wanted. That is honestly what kept me being a fan after discovering kpop back in 2011 beyond the pretty people and catchy music. Also I believe the fans have the most power, we support the artist after they leave, we can convince companies to change their opinion, we decide whats ok for them and not ok. So everyone keep supporting your favourite 'artists' and respect their individuality and privacy, its the best thing we can do for them and the industry.

I love it! My queen spoke it all. Tiffany isn't my bias in GG, but when it comes to authenticity, nobody in the group can beat Tiffany and Taeyeon. And that's what i love about the both of them. When i first got hooked onto the kpop culture, i admit that all i looked out for was perfection. I only supported kpop groups that consisted of the best visuals, vocals, rappers and dancers, which explains why i became a huge fan of snsd. it's been 10 years, so much has changed. i watched my girls grow and mature, and witnessed their ups and downs. they became more open to sharing about their feelings and opinions which really warmed my heart. i must say that snsd is the reason why i am no longer looking out for perfection, but rather authenticity. i believe in loving and supporting an artist for who she really is. no matter how beautiful or amazing an idol's voice/dancing skills can be, it doesn't portray the idol's identity. i know of many rookie groups that gained popularity over these few years, but what i see in these groups is perfection but not authenticity. many artists, because of the pressure they receive from this kpop idol system, they force themselves to act as people they are not. im not gonna name the groups out of respect for them, but im kinda just super upset that kpop companies have forced their artists to become people they are not. I love Girls Generation, not just because they are the definition of perfection, but because they show fans the best versions of themselves which is what makes them authentic. I love you snsd, thank you zach for giving tiff such a great opportunity!

You think you know the industry and then she comes back in and show you more to it although she has revealed about 10% of what idols go through, the rest will be delivered later as she is slowly making the change that kpop needs, this is her first time ever and she is still learning to find her voice outside Korea or Asia in general, and I can assure you she is growing up to be the ARTIST a lot of idols and us will be thankful for, she will change the rules and she has just started !!! Tiffany you have my full love and support. Words just cannot describe how much love I have for this incredible woman... she is absolutely one of a kind like she amazes me more and more each day, which I didn't even think was possible at this point 💖 Throughout her entire career in the K-pop industry, Tiffany has continuously put in the effort and hard work to build and grow not only as an artist but as a person and to me she has blossomed into one of the realest people in the industry, and I really hope she knows this and is so proud of herself for this journey as we all definitely are 😊 This girl gets so much undeserved shit and hate thrown at her way CONSTANTLY, on almost every level from everything to her voice, her speech, her appearance, her manners, just EVERYTHING which she can't catch a break from and what for.. and yet in the midst of this she STILL remains upbeat and positive, taking everything in her stride, be it praise or criticism and coming out stronger than ever. It's obvious how much she struggled during some of her controversies (admittedly most of which came from them being blown heavily out of proportion both due to Koreas culture and the general vendetta people have against Tiffany), but I'm so so SO proud to see her bounce back and be the bright and happy Tiffany we know and love, like.... I really just adore her with all my heart 😥😥😭😭 Tiffany really is just one of a kind and I am so thankful that I have the privilege of being a fan of her and SNSD as a whole and have watched her become the amazing person she is today 💖 It's so refreshing to see her in this side of the industry being able to express more freedom and settle into herself and I will be right behind her all the way in this new journey
