I did a Masters which was assignment writing, basically one per week. I never started from the start of an assignment, always collected the data points, started with paragraph 2 and never wasted time at the start. This absolutely isn't to criticise, it's just to say that it's so important that universities and schools teach the HOW of essay writing and not just assume that people are going to know where to start because they simply don't most of the time. I could never have been able to do what I did trying to start my essays from the start.
