Not at all! There is this myth that software developers should start at six figures. Maybe in NYC or Silicon Valley, but it’s more important to get hired and start building your portfolio and resume!

Tiff, thank you so much for being candid & sharing your experience. I couldn't agree with you more, have had a similar experience. I was a full-stack developer 10+ years ago. I left the workforce for good, to be with my 2 boys :). Now, they are independent and in high school. I want to get back into the workforce, which I never thought I would in a million years :). I'm relearning & enjoying coding, which is my first passion, but thinking of finding a job gives me nightmares. Video on networking would definitely help.

Great video. I'm in a loop, without much motivation. Kind of not knowing, should I focus on game development, continue in web development or try out something completely different. So, kind of in a state where I rather watch "too many" motivational videos instead of actually working. Probably some tiny new projects that I could complete would raise motivation but... just too many ideas in my head.
@TiffInTech Жыл бұрын
You got it! Remember to be patient with yourself... its normal to get in those loops and you will get out of it.. maybe it is a sign you need to take some time to rest!

Hi Tiff, I'm a Data Analyst, actually I'm a Mathematician but I got to work into a startup and I got involved in this other career, right now I'm looking for new opportunities because I feel underpaid and also unapreciated in my company, I was always so humble at the beggining because I did not have much experience but now things hasn't change much so yeah, I currently find myself hunting for a new job and expecting everything goes ok. About networking you couldn't be more right, it's really important.
@faraznaseem928 Жыл бұрын
Honestly, I like networking, even though I'm not the most extroverted person out there. Here's how I think of it: Networking is essentially talk to other people about who you work for, what you did, and then going from there. It's about making interpersonal connections and learning to talk to people. You become a better Software Engineer by listening to other engineers and managers, and you get the opportunity to continously improve and hone your soft skills.

I've honed my networking skills to the max during my university years and applied them to the university education system. I got 1st class in chemical engineering and 2:1 in data science master (I still got an average of 70%, which is 1st class but I didn't do well on my dissertation because I found my job lol). I barely studied anything because networking made everything extremely efficient. Now I used it in my job and got temporarily promoted to data architect within 6 months of employment. I actually made the second mistake but resolved it in a week because I had 2 offers and I took one that is more interesting and higher paid. I would emphasize the third point of keep asking questions when you don't know and watch out for those who talk for you (bad people with intentions!).

hmmm I started my first job without even knowing what I want out of it. I just went for any IT job. Then I build experience then went to another company as an IT too. Then I left after building experience but had no more opportunities so I got a job that is not IT related. I can't stand it, so I resigned after 4 months, then went to another company same non-IT job and can't stand it cause at this point I know I have no future if I stay on this company. I was lucky and got another IT job. Then cycle again, build experience-resign-new company. Don't get me wrong, it is always about the money. That is how I keep things simple. No matter what IT job that is as long as I earn more then I'll grab it. This keeps me longing for more and not to stay on my comfort zone cause I know there are better jobs or companies that pays higher salaries. Until now I am not settle which I think never will because I aim for more money.

I like your computer setup by the way. I only have my laptop without external monitors. Power outages here are frequent so I have to be on a laptop which lasts for 8hrs. I wish I can have external monitors too but I don't want to spend more money😂 Having extra monitors really helps. So far I got my job done without them though. I'll get one if I have no choice.

The biggest mistake in my life was I graduate chemical engineering back in 2006, and now in this shitty country Bosnia my income as a engineer is 700 euros, and most jobs with highschool are better paid here, so I am trying to earn programming, trying because of my chronic sickness, so I can afford myself a way better life,this is only surviving..I can not feel more sorry then making that huge mistake in my life, but back in ex Yugoslavia engineers were most paid people...

@@TiffInTech thank you dear. Having personality disorder compliates learning stuff, one day I wanna be game developer,second photoshop retoucher third video editor and so on.I never stick to something until the end. But I am sadly less interested in programming...even though I was best at mathematics physics and chemistry in class. I simply don't know where and how to start, but bigger issue is to keep learning. They say in life you do the job you love but I don' love programming, I love biilding PCs...
