Unimpressed with Boehly and Co so far. Transfer window was totally mishandled, helped destabilize the squad. Got rid of upper management without replacing it. Sloppy work. It did seem like Tuchel had lost the dressing room, and had done so for a while. Given the circumstances at the club, though, he did well and will be missed.
@markvargus65192 жыл бұрын
I suspect that the upper management situation is a shift in the structure. Todd Boehly has a background where he owns several American sports clubs (LA Dodgers, LA Lakers, LA Spark, Cloud9). Once he purchased Chelsea and got a look at the structure he probably wanted to change it to something closer if not identical to what has worked for the LA Dodgers- MLB (been in the playoffs every year since 2013, 3 world series appearances and 1 win in the last 7 years) and the LA Lakers (one of the most recognized and valuable teams in the NBA). So there will be new people replacing those lost, but probably with different titles. Honestly, while its not ideal that its taking time to refill those positions, its completely understandable and from the viewpoint of an American who has watched a lot of team turmoil over the last 20 years, its not something to stress over.

Many people are saying that Chelsea regressed in recent months but when you look at the team, it overall just isn’t as good as it was before, even with the reinforcements. Most of their “expensive signings” only came in at the end of the transfer window which means they’ve barely even had a handful of games to get used to the squad, whilst important players like Mendy and Sterling are completely out of form. The midfield has lost Kante to injury which means there’s no real defensive midfield cover, which is why they’ve been forced to play with 5 at the back to compensate. Chelsea also missed out on nearly all of their first choice transfers, which means that the expensive signings they DID get were more out of desperation to plug holes rather than carefully planned and calculated transfers made months in advance. If Tuchel has lost the dressing room then you can’t do much about that, but Tuchel is undoubtedly a world-class manager tactically who’s about as good as Chelsea can really get right now.

Also tbh the signings this summer were clearly made by someone who not really knows what football is about he got players not fitting into his system (same thing last year with lukaku) which likely is why there were problems with the new owners And yeah from december on they had problems but i mean with all the things around the pitch i wouldnt wonder

It's so strange to me that the management didn't think let's try and make it work with Tuchel, let's put a system in place that allows him and the team to flourish. How many other elite managers are available now? If it didn't work after this season then fair enough you part ways. It basically looks like they're looking long-term but haven't really done any planning for what the structure will be behind the manager. I love Potter, who doesn't, but if the owners think he can come in and be incredibly successful I think they're a bit naive. Potter is clearly a brilliant manager, but the structure behind him at Brighton is equally brilliant, they work beautifully well in tandem. Clean slate is sometimes best (and he’s never going to quit given how much he’d receive for getting sacked).
@hmst24342 жыл бұрын
From what’s been reported, it seems like their working relationship was also a reason why he got sacked. Tuchel preferred a more detached approach while the owners wants a manger who will engage more with them and other departments. I think Boehly wants to establish a long term and stable project so it was important to make sure they get right manager for that structure and I think Potter is perfect. Considering how well run the Dodgers are, I think Boehly will hire the right people and establish a good structure. They’ve only just bought the club and they were in a buffer period where they had to sack members from the old regime who had a different approach to managing a club. It’s been a little hectic and I think they’ve done alright with the signings they’ve made considering the situation. Also worth to mention that potters back room staff is quite important to Brighton’s structure as well,particularly his recruitment analyst, Kyle Mcauley who looks to be following Potter to Chelsea.

The most brain dead sacking in a long time. Yeah sure Chelsea have been regressing since the beginning of the year, but what was he supposed to do? A new owner comes in, who can't give Tuchel any of the signings he needed. Add to that Tuchel needed to act as a director and coach during the summer for the transfers which should never happen. Most of the signings chelsea needed only arrived towards the end of the window and even then they still lack some players. The squad is unbalanced, to the point it will be impressive if they can secure top 4 this season with Arsenal and Spurs improving massively and backing their managers. Not to mention, who are you gonna replace Tuchel with? The only managers better than him are Pep, Klopp, Ancelotti. Other managers who could be available would be a downgrade. Tuchel proved PSG wrong in sacking him after leading that lacking squad to a UCL final, he will do the same with Chelsea no doubt.

Everything is extremely predictable and we keep possession uselessly by passing around an octagon for 90 minutes. The only player with any capacity to create anything is Reece James. Yesterday's CL match was the most infuriated I have ever been watching a Chelsea match through many years of supporting

What I find odd with Chelsea is if they think they're gonna fix this then they actually need to give the next manager time which would be very anti Chelsea. It is also odd from the board who gave the manager £250m to spend. So a new manager comes in with players he may not necessarily want.
@JamesG892 жыл бұрын
Theres only a few players that a manager wouldn't want in any circumstances, jorginho because he's too slow for the PL, Havertz because he (weirdly) has an outdated position that doesn't fly anymore. Other than that, we have a very talented team, with good depth and a very strong academy including new young signings. It's still a very attractive proposition
@SirEEf132 жыл бұрын
Yes giving a manager time would be anti Chelsea but Todd Boehly is not Abramowitch so some things are destined to change. Todd Boehly has been working with the LA Dodgers manager Dave Roberts since 2016 and reports say he wants something similar at Chelsea. If I had to guess I´d say the next Chelsea manager will be here for a while, even if that means that there will be a season where Chelsea plays in the conference league.

That's a new one. Most of the time you hear managers bemoan the fact they dont have enough say about transfers, not the other way round. But this sacking has been on the cards. He's not been able to solve the chance creation problems that goes beyond the start of this season. And things seems to have gotten worse since last season. If he's a coaching first manager, its kinda damning that he's been unable to get the best out of any of the attackers, Pulisic, Werner, Lukaku, Kai, Ziyech etc.

Tuchel has always been clear that Chelsea was not at the level of Liverpool and Man City and had a ways to go. Even after winning the Champions League, Tuchel admitted these teams were still better and Chelsea had to prove themselves. Tuchel getting sacked is just worse for the Prem. Tired of these owners who don't know anything about football just ego tripping and taking complete control. Know theyre going for Potter who we can guarantee the owner doesn't know anything about or has just seen the hype via social media. Even if the form was bad Im sure Chelsea fans loved him still. He won a UCL and Worlds Best Coach and was then sacked after 6 games sitting a point above Liverpool. The owner also forced so many overpriced signings on him which definitely weren't Tuchel backed 100%.

That was not always the case. Even when those same unnamed forwards played well, they got dropped and then brought back on the field out of position as Wing back. Pulisic is a great example. He was dropped from the starting 11 after playing well and scoring goals. When dropped from the 11, Tuchel said he understand it's not fair and that other players deserve to play too. Then he started playing Pulisic out of position and his performance dropped. Even called Pulisic a super sub when doing well off the bench.

The final product so far is way better than when he started, though obviously they still have a ways to go. Klopp got similar patience. For me it was a big worry all the way back in September of last year. They had Lukaku playing well, scoring goals, and they were winning every week. Then Man City went to Stamford Bridge, and while the final score was only 0-1, Man City dominated every aspect of the game and should have had more. At full time it looked like a big reality check for Chelsea and honestly never saw Chelsea get back to any kind of consistency after that day.
@josephoni99902 жыл бұрын
Sooo true. I have constantly been seeing us as a shaky team tbh and I thought the entire champions league run was a stroke of players wanting to impress a new manager/a new big name manager/just sheer tactical genius/quite a bit of luck. When we played the second leg against Real, Benzema was so close to tying up the draw himself if not for a few close misses. The final was a Rudiger masterclass with tons of blocks, it was great to watch at the time but it should have been clear to see this was not how we were going to play week in week out. After that our attack has consisted of wonder goals and a few penalties, all of this resulted in low scoring ties and us slightly being edged out in a few games. The man city game was a shame to see really as I think we actually were not nearly as bad as we have been in recent months, however that does not mean the game was not horrendous. The loss to Juventus was spectacularly bad just after that as well. From then on despite not losing there were some worrying performances like (Zenit 3 - 3 Chelsea) (Everton 1 - 1 Chelsea) (Wolves 0 - 0 Chelsea) and even some worrying looking wins like (Chelsea 3 - 2 Leeds) and (Chelsea 2 - 1 Watford). Over reliance on players who really dont provide enough to the team or just players who dont even want to be here like Jorginho, Azpi, ZIyech and even Lukaku made our team feel so stale with no progress forward from our champions league winning team, which was by no means a complete team. All of this is really unfortunate as most of us dont know what is happening behind the scenes, but still I would have loved him here for at least another season to turn things around for himself and the team.

This is what people seem to overlook. I can't blame them though because the effects of the sanctions, lukaku's interview and Major injuries (e.g. Reece and Chilly) seem to have masked this. It was easier to blame the sanctions etc than it was to admit that Chelsea were regressing.

But at the same time with how things went The board and Boehly doesn't see Tuchel as future since Tuchel doesn't really rate young players for example he doesn't rate Broja and bought Auba, and don't have plan for Gilmour in his team. Also the young players that just came haven't got opportunity. While the new board vision is to build for the long future and in this youngsters.

However a dropoff in performances, player discord, and tactical rigidity seem to be hallmarks of Tuchel's management. I think his approach has a short shelf-life.
