And Klopp is the only one to do so in the last 6 years apart from Pep. So instead of saying he’s underachieved, you could say he’s the only one who could win it in Pep’s ‘era’ Beating a more proven and more experienced manager with a way bigger financial backing isn’t dor everyone it seems. The fact he’s come second with just one point less TWICE is mental if you think about it. 3 UCL finals aswell! He’s 4 games off of 3 PLs and 3 UCLs! Arteta finished 8th in his first 2 seasons, 5th in his third and looks like he’ll finish 2nd behind City twice in a row now. Winning the PL during the Pep era isn’t for everyone, no matter how good you are

Sorry guys, but I don't know what you where watching, but you definitely didn't see the full games against Atletico. Because in the Atletico away game. The game plan worked really well. And their where totally different players than you have on your screen. Zerrouki was playing as a 6 to cover Griezman (that worked for 80 minutes). Giminez was suspended so Ueda played. And Atletico won the game because of Oblak and the pure class off Griezmann. They also went upfront twice in the Wanda Metropolitano and the whole off the Spanish press where writing how impressing Feyenoord was. The stats also didn't lie with a 2.46 xG for feyenoord and a 0,84 xG for Ateltico. While at the home game it was less impressing and easier to see that Feyenoord was not going to win this game.

Sorry about the players on the board, that's my mistake, not Jon's. I had the line-up from the match in Rotterdam up instead of the match in Madrid. Jon did mention that the flat 3 change and the 6 (Zerrouki) was probably deployed to track Griezmann. But while this was effective, the structure still allowed Feyenoord's shape to be pulled apart.
@martijng8951
@martijng8951 7 ай бұрын
@@donukb Sorry but this doesn't make sense at all. The whole game Feyenoord was dictating the game. Only one goal from Aletico was produced (with a bit off luck) from a pass in the middle of the pitch. The other goal was a set piece and the other a cross from the side. All the other stats show a master class from Slot Ball: Gx 2.46 vs 0,84Gx Atletico, 228 passes on the half of the opponent vs 146 for Atletico. 12 interceptions vs 9 from ateltico. And all the duel stats are in the favor for Feyenoord, against one of the most physical teams of Europe. The Aletico game is just the worst example to give for Slot his play in Europe. Maybe Lazio away was a better case. As Feyenoord dominated them at home but could not get to more direct scoring chances. Same goes for AS Roma for 3 years in a row, Italian way of defending and derailing the game is the Achilles heal for Slot. Aletico was a piece of masterclass from Slot where after a lot of chances Feyenoord forgot to put the crown on the top of the work of the plan. While Lazio away, Roma away and even Celtic away, shows what happens when the opponents of Slot his play don't want to play, just derail.

I might be a bit biased being a Feyenoorder but Liverpool has made a great pick in choosing Arne. This man (Along with Dennis te Kloese) has improved Feyenoord so much. There is a documentary about feyenoord (Dat ene woord) about the 20/21 season. In it you can see how shaky and full of lowpoints that season was. It seemed to me and a lot of othere Feyenoord fans that there really was no sense of direction on and off the pitch. To go from that horrendous season, that saw us narrowly making it into the conference league qualification rounds and having a horrible europa league campaign, to making the conference league final, a title and a cup in three years is astonising. And then i havent even mentioned all the great players that have progressed uner him or his exciting style of playing the game. Again i’m biased but Slot will be dearly missed here in Rotterdam and having liverpool as my fav club in england, i will be greatly looking forward to what’s in store for Liverpool.

No Liverpool fan expected Liverpool to be competing for the league this season. We had a rough season last year, and a lot of players left in the summer including most of our senior midfielders (apart from Thiago who has been injured most of the season). Getting a trophy and comfortably making top 4 is far more than most fans expected, but Klopp leaving announcement and the team performing above expectations (even with injuries) made us feel like they could have won more.

i think there should’ve been some caveat for Salah’s 2024 metrics. he’s played 876 minutes for liverpool in 2024, a relatively low sample size, no mention of him returning from injury and no emphasis time he spent away from liverpool during afcon. a time that coincided with trent’s injury also. it sort of seemed like the team got used to the right space being used by mostly conor bradley and usually elliott. Mo returns and does well enough with bradley but trent returns and their progression, especially against atalanta, had almost no right side outlet in early buildup phases. trent and szobozslai were both inverting and it seemed to hamper their progression. hence why alisson had the most passes in the 2nd game at atalanta

Here's some context for Slot not winning the title with Feyenoord this year: 1.Psv have the best season in history... likely of all Eredivisie teams ever! There are 2 easy games left to win and they even beat the legendary Ajax with Cruyff '71-'72 campaign. 2. Their squat was much more expensive -no more cos Slot further increased the value of his players so much. They have half a dozen players Feyenoord wanted as well but couldn't afford. 3. They beat us at home 1-2 while all relevant statistics like expected goals were for us, we also had the upper hand in Eindhoven which ended 2-2. And we did beat them in the cup game 1-0. 4. We lost 4 points in the 2 first games of the season cos our squat wasn't complete during the preparation weeks and we suffered an unfortunate red card. 5. Still, we scored more goals and conceded less this season and still could win more points coming just 2 points short of Feyenoord's best season ever ('72-'73 85 points). Slot has been our best head coach ever. It's only a matter of time before you'll say what we've been saying the last 3 years: "in Slot we trust". Hate to see him go but he fully deserves his dream transfer.

The biggest mistake people can make now is compare Slot with Erik ten Hag or any other Dutch coach who worked in the PL. what Slot showed us in The Netherlands is that he can get the most out of a team. He doesn't need expensive players to win trophies, as he proved last season by winning the Dutch title with a completely new squad after so many players were sold. He didn't even have his squad complete at the start of the season. Any comparison with Ten Hag or Van Gaal is unfair because they had much larger player budgets than Slot had at his disposal. Comparatively, Slot's performance was much better. I'm sure he will succeed at Liverpool.

The possession thing might be City, Liverpool, Arsenal in the stats but i'd say Liverpool are that high not by choice. Many opposition teams are happy to sit deep and let Liverpool have the ball because Klopp has struggled to consistently break down a low block, whereas Guardiola and Arteta (at times) look like they're happy to play smothering football

expectation for next season: 1. beat the low block. it has been an achilles heel for a long time. 2. be consistent. we can have some dip in results but not dropping off a cliff like we did customary, usually around the month of AFCON, but this season it was April unfortunately. 3. at least retain the league cup. though I do hope we can win the league but realistically its not going happen. We can remain as challengers, as it has always been except for a season. So the final expectation is get over the finish line. We always compete well but fell on our face at the finish line.

Players like Matip, Thiago and Tsimikas will most likely leave this summer. Gomez and Diaz futures are up in the air it seems like. We deffo need a CB but should also look at a CDM and maybe striker/attacker. If Slot could get Nunez scoring even half the chances he gets a lot of the problems would be solved. Because it’s not like we’ve had a lack of chances created we just aren’t scoring them. Also need to get back to being top 3 best set piece teams in the league we have completely lost that this season.

I'm excited for the new era, Arne Slot certainly seems to tick almost all of the boxes to be a good manager. I hope he does well. That being said, his lack of experience outside the Netherlands is my biggest (and only real) concern with him. Not trying to belittle the Eredivisie or anything, they do play some exciting football, but the Premier League is a huge step up, the quality of football is higher, more intense, faster paced and can be ruthless, never mind going to Liverpool, where expectations will be much higher. There is a chance that Slot might get a culture shock when he moves and there is no guarantee that his success at AZ Alkmaar or Feyenoord will translate to success for Liverpool, as we saw with Erik Ten Hag. That being said, from what I have been reading, Arne Slot does have one huge advantage over Erik Ten Hag, personality and communication. Slot is a lot more charismatic, more empathetic and has a better sense of humour than Ten Hag, who lacks that sense of human connection and is a lot more blunt. Arne Slot is also apparently a lot more fluent in English than Ten Hag, so much so that apparently that Slot made English the first language at Feyenoord. It was read that while both men were in the Netherlands their personalities were on full display in press conferences. Ten Hag often sounded like he reading off a script word-for-word. Arne Slot by contrast would often throw in a few jokes every now and again and make reporters laugh, which again may help Slot to settle in England better than Ten Hag did. I do think Arne Slot has the ability to make it work and I hope that the culture shock won't impact him too and he recovers/settles in quickly. Bring it on Arne Slot.

I'm not worried. The board has their identity and a way they want to play and go forward with, just like they had under Klopp. Next step was for them to find a coach with similar values, similar playstyle, etc. and now all remains for the new coach to put the pieces together with the board and fans as always behind him.

The end of era moment came when Sadio Mane left. Playstyle completely changed. Last two seasons have been preparing for his departure, I reckon next season they'll be as competitive but will have a bigger and more experienced squad so have a little more depth for the end of the season.

The biggest issue is the lack of the Firmino role and anyone who can do it consistently. Also, Fabihno at peak was amazing. These are 2 Klopp era roles that have never been sufficiently replaced. There is also the issue of no replacement for Mane's scoring. Diaz is a good player but not as dangerous, this makes it harder on Salah.
@MerijnH

Nunez as a real striker should replace Mane's goal scoring. Thats the trade off: less involved in the game but scores more goals. Problem is, he doesnt score.

Have the lads forgotten about Melo when they talk about mistakes? To me Klopp's biggest mistake was handing an ageing, injury prone Henderson, a 4 year contract extension even though he still had two years left. Very rarely do you see that happen with players over 31 at that level. It went against everything Liverpool have been trying to build over the years and if the stories are to be believed, caused a rift between Klopp and others within that hierarchy. Also it's the worst because predictably, the following season after Hendo got that extension, his form fell of a cliff. Also, the midfield being an absolute disaster the following season showed a series of bad decisions with regards to the midfield over a year that doomed Liverpool last season. Henderson extension, not selling Oxlade and Keita, not buying a midfielder and the loan of Melo.

First of all, thank you for the awesome content. While I agree that Salah's form has dropped I cannot agree with you on the point that his shot power is affecting his shot-to-goal ratio. I think it's his general composure and lack of confidence that's affecting him in front of the goal. We've been seeing less of him dribbling past defenders and more of shooting on sight situations.. He used to be so calm in front of the goal but not so much these days

I dont think you have to worry about scalability with Arne Slot. Slot has shown especially in those competitions that he can easily perform at the european top level, often outcoaching beating top team from Spain, Italy, Germany and also the PL with s fraction of their budgets. (sorrym too early ;))

I really hope this guy keeps Liverpool in the mix of things at the top of the PL this next season. Van Dijk is going to speak up if things aren’t working out. Klopp’s influence has been fatherly to the lads over the years and they’re gonna wanna show their Kloppdaddy that they’re big boys when he’s gone.

I don't expect much from Liverpool next season, but I would hope they stick with Slot for a season or two to give him a proper shot in the job. My hope for Liverpool would simply be to improve in Defense, but I would completely understand a bit of a drop off between this year and next, I think LFC somewhat overperformed this year, I would expect them to at least regress to the mean if not underperform under a new manager. If he manages to teach Darwin what the offsides rule is I would give him a 5 year extension on the spot

Liverpool fans can rest assured. Arne Slot is one of the most talented young trainers. High pressing, intensity and attacking football, coupled with superior tactical ability, make Arne's teams an almost unbeatable team. Intelligent, communicative and convincing. It is not without reason that arch-rival Ajax was defeated 10-0 this season (over two games). I would prefer to keep him in Rotterdam for another season, but give Liverpool his leadership. A worthy successor to Klopp and in no way comparable to the bald one from Manchester United.

Arne's only problem will be dealing with the crazy world infamous UK media obsessed with private lives. Arne is simply the best Dutch coach in decades, he will succeed, we rate him 100X higher than ETH who nobody took serious, and lets be honest, we Dutch are simply better in this game, a International premier league that was also kicked off by a Dutch guy going to Arsenal doesn't change that. Arne is the real deal, there is nothing in the Netherlands that has more consensus, you will be surprised what he does with a little bit more budget, no Anthony's but missed jewels that he will make better

I think the career arc for Arne at Liverpool will follow a similar pattern to Brendan rogers at Liverpool. Following a small exodus of players from Liverpool and an aging core, recruitment will be minimal but maybe one or two key players being brought in during his first season, the football will look exciting but the league position will be underwhelming 5-8th place. Liverpool then go into their second season Arne and improve massively domestically , they put on a run akin to rogers second season or artetas fourth season, we’ll dominate most games but fall short in the league and go out of all the cups early. Optimism is high for the 3rd season after some new recruits but some key senior players have since gone and the average age of the squad is young and generally still inexperienced. A very bad start to the league campaign slightly picks up mid way, but we ultimately underperform and finish 5-8th in the league again and go out at the group stages of the CL. Arne is sacked in the summer at the conclusion of that season (or doesn’t get his contract renewed as I think it’s a 3 year deal). Liverpool move in another direction and I think the owners sell in this time frame from when Arne is manager to a new manager coming in. Arne then goes to manage back in Holland or the bundesliga It’ll be a case of ‘I like the bloke but he’s just not good enough and is out of his depth ultimately’. Hope I’m wrong in the same way I was about klopp, I predicted he would get us challenging for the biggest honours but we’d ultimately fall short and I didn’t see him lasting more than 5-6 seasons with us.
