As someone who had 6g back 2017 and didn't weld pipe for more than 4 years ( complicated !) And now trying to come back and get jm and b ticket , the first minute of the video I got my stomach upside down , just thinking of the poor guy who messed up two x ray , and yes I know it won't be me first day fixing that instead of 10 yo experience b welder . I loved tig welding but the frustration that come with it it's really next level . ( and yeh once your good it seem too easy , I remember doing better free hand than many guys walking the cup) . Keep up the good work, see you soon hopefully 😂

One of the last jobs I was on few years ago(I'm done with the road now) we were welding 24" Schedule 160 J beveled Chrome Pipe, Preheated w/ ceramic wraps to 650F. Two welders chasing each other around it (started on opposite sides),It was taking Two 12hr shifts to weld 1 joint. 100% x-ray Bust out once you fix it, The second time to the gate. In the Summer BTW sucked but it was GOOD money.

Had to install some 10” sch 80 pipe for a company I worked for- all we had to use where the new Esab rebel inverter welders using 110v which the machine only went to 90 amps on Tig. Was damn near impossible- then was told that we were too slow. It’s not always the welder- sometimes it’s the equipment that’s provided.
@X3MTIG
@X3MTIG 6 ай бұрын
Yeah no kidding, that machine is good only for tacking on that kind of pipe! Next time ask them to show you how to weld faster with that machine!
@EliAngwin

I basically did. I only worked for that company for about a month only cause it was close to home. Their shop equipment wasn’t much better- in fact I let them know when I left that I have better equipment at home than a multi million dollar company has. Pretty pathetic, honestly.

Wow… I’m blown away. I’m 17, highschool student looking into welding as a career. This looks very difficult to me and requires patience, but looks like it pays off and feels amazing when you get to look at a polished beauty of a work like that. How much time in total did this weld take, is this a full day you made out of it? Also the cutting of the pipe, is that just something you have get done so that you can properly repair? Or something you’d have to do yourself? I don’t know too much about welding, but I’ve watched people weld and people at an academy do some basic teaching online and it just looks like a good time to me. For someone who’s looking to learn the foundations what would be a good resource to look into aside from taking trade school or joining a union?

Mate don't be put off by this! If you want to get into serious welding like this you're best off getting a job with a heavy fabrication company that does similar work to this, and work your way up to it. Otherwise if you just want to learn to weld good enough to build a gate or a table or a car exhaust, then your night classes and practice at home will do you just fine ;)

Hi! Great video! Really shows your expertise. I'm studying elektromechanical engineering and I was wondering how you know which filler to use? Also did you pre-heat the welding sections and was there any thermal process needed to stress-relieve your welds? I'm asking this because in my course they point alot of attention to the HAZ zones where there can be coarse grains and precipitations like carbides formed from the Mn, Mo, etc.. Thanks alot for your answer

Excellent welding technique! Is Liquid Penetrant required to be done on the root pass or visual only followed by 100% RT on weld completion. For the sake of the guy that did the failed weld, in addition to improving technique, he should learn that there are times when proper use of a grinder can be a welders best friend. Also, a basic course in Visual Inspection and inspecting his own work before the QA/QC guy shows up are in his best interest. Not a welder but spent a career in QA writing procedures and performing Destructive and Non-Destructive testing.
@X3MTIG
@X3MTIG 4 ай бұрын
Both, it’s a closure weld procedure! I agree with your comment, but unfortunately some companies have very low standards, so it’s not only welder to blame here it was entire chain… vt ok, RT ok, and when they use borescope they failed that weld.
@jeffreywhitmoyer860
@jeffreywhitmoyer860 4 ай бұрын
@@X3MTIG I know exactly what you're saying about standards. No matter how hard the Quality guy tries to do his job, as soon as his back is turned the pusher boss steps in and screams at the welder to just get it done and he doesn't care how. Amazing how money is more important than a communities health and well being in the case of an accident.

Thanks for comment , but there is no terrible or ugly in the code… both joints passed X-ray, that’s what matters , other guy welded with stick , and I know him for a long time, he’s excellent welder…
