Tiger Limia - Limia islai

The Tiger Limia that came into the hobby in 2002 initially was misidentified as Limia garnieri, then briefly thought to be a juvenile form of L. nigrofasciata. Later however, they were determined to be a new species, or probably a subspecies of L. nigrofasciata. Now we know they are really Limia islai.
For a livebearer they haven’t got crazy fancy colours, but a warm golden yellow shimmer, that I find very beautiful. The females will drop 5-20 young approximately every 30 days. They will try to eat their own fry, but if the adults are well fed and there are plenty of cover among the plants - most fry will survive.

Hi Michael! As always, a great species profile. I think this fish is very unique. I like the stripes but you and I both know we like tiger barbs too. There's just something special about stripes.

Hi Joe, yeah that is kind of fishy;0) On the angling side of things, we are going to fish local ponds, lakes and streams since the big C-word has reduced of desire for traveling up north in Scandinavia. Lots of turmoil here besides "C", northern Scandinavia sounds refreshing while in a 2nd heat wave of 90+ F heat and no rain. I'll take your advise and chill at the aquarium!
