@@hubertstrzalkowski1261 There’s no such thing as cheap, reliable and strong. If money is tight, then your best bet is to buy a second-hand set of Shimano Ultegras. I bought a set myself nearly ten years ago and they are still going strong. I’d chat to a reel servicing guy. Lots of independents to be found on Facebook. Find someone that you can trust and they might be able to set you up with some refurbished reels. You always get what you pay for.

I used tigers alot back in my early days as they were fairly cheap compared to boilies. We had very good results by smashing them up and using pieces instead of whole nuts as it replicated the carp passing them...the weary bigger carp waited for them to be pre digested then hoovered up the mess.

Hello Mat. When you fish with tiger nuts and PVAs, try crushing the tiger nuts before putting them inside the PVA bag. The essential oils in the nuts will disperse around the water driving the carp mad for a bite.

Hmmmm... I remember when tiger nuts arrived on the big carp scene. They were banned in a lot of venues very quickly due to carp having problems digesting them as they were too hard and not a lot of people knew how to prepare them for fishing. I think the prep was boiling them in water then letting them soak for anywhere between 6-8hrs+ to soften them up or just leaving them soaking in water for a while. Not heard anyone using them for a very very long time.
@matthewcollinsangler

I’d never fished with them before tbh but found them great to single out the carp on a lake with catfish. Yeah, I agree, I’d only use them in small quantities like a small PVA bag as they’re not great for the carp.

@@matthewcollinsangler You might still be able to find old guides about how to prep them correctly (i genuinely remember them being a lot of faff to get right...) if you really wanted to use them. but I agree with the suggestions below about crushing them up to make it less of an issue for the carp. Not trying to scare you or nothing, but these did fall out of fashion really fast! As a suggestion - go to your local aldi's, pick up a cheap tin of butter beans and hair rig one or two of them. guaranteed you'll get a double figure 🐟

@@seabassmastermatt80 Ah right, yes I totally see why that would come as a surprise. I’ve decided to experiment with them again since I’ve moved to barbless. The reason why barbless makes a difference is that I’m unhooking the carp immediately in the net so that there's no way the long shank can become entangled in the net. I’m also fishing them in size 8 (rather than a size 6). They are just 2mm longer than a regular size 6 Twister in length. I still wouldn't advocate their use in micro barbed form or in larger sizes 😊

If you prepare them yourself, bottle up the gunk that comes from them, the carp love it. Just obviously make sure they are prepared properly, or they can clog the carp right up. Alot of lakes have banned them, so just make sure you check your lake rules

Hi mate, yes that’s a good point actually, salt will dehydrate the nuts although I’m not sure that changes their level of attraction or nutritional properties and they will rehydrate in the water 🤔 In this case, I was salting my hookbaits and making up the mesh bags as I went along so it wasn't an issue. When’s the best time to use salt ?? After spawning ?
@matthewcollinsangler
@matthewcollinsangler 6 ай бұрын
Carp need salt all year round because it’s an essential part of their diet and not readily available in freshwater. They actually lose salt constantly unless the water is slightly brackish. Carp need as much good nutrition as they can get both pre and post spawning but I’m not sure whether their salt requirement changes significantly or not. I use a little bit of himalayan salt all year round just to make sure I’m making my spots as attractive as I can. Hope that helps, cheers, Matt.

@matthewcollinsangler
@matthewcollinsangler 2 жыл бұрын
You can make up the PVA mesh bags in advance no problem. I store mine in a glug pot. You can make the rigs in advance too, just don't mount the salted tigers until you are ready to cast. Himalayan Rock salt is extremely corrosive and you're right it will kill the hook point very quickly, adding grease won't be enough. Just bring bag and rig together when you are ready to cast 😜

Hi Liam, I get that mate and sure it’s difficult to know whether the pink salt does make a difference but I know from seeing how the carp excavate our lake bed (kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZomtoImPq8Slf80) that minerals are really important to them. Based on the test fishing I’ve done this season I was shocked by the results as I got takes much quicker than I would normally expect. I bought a large jar and it’s going to last me years.
