You should put this video into your panfish play list. It's a terrific pattern.

That’s a great fly. Thanks for sharing. I must say that I enjoy your “style “ of presentation. I find it to the point and no fluffy stuff. 🙏🇦🇺

Awesome. Love the rubber leg technique after the whip finish. Those little bits of "out of the box" info are what makes you videos so good.

Thanks for sharing. I don't think there is a more effective beetle because of the foam and peacock herl I believe it is a winner. All the best, Sean

Nice one! Tried one out of an EarPlug!😂 Worked fine. Looked natural

Here's an idea. Before inserting the legs under the upper foam, drop little superglue on the legs themselves, and then insert. This way you don't need to apply head cement in the wrong place, really.

It was tricky to get that whip finish under that foam onto that hook! Maybe I should have left the ‘head’ longer than I did 🧐

I tend to have issues with this pattern rolling in the water. The green indicator goes out of sight, and then I'm fishing blind. Are there any recommendations for fixing this issue?
@winstonchurchill43402 жыл бұрын
I know I’m waaayyyy late, but the best thing on bigger foam bugs is to use a standard wire nymph hook(Dai Ichi 1550 is my go-to for beetles). It helps land the fly and “keel” it right every time.

Is the highlight spot on the back of the fly always green? Or can it be any color?
@winstonchurchill43402 жыл бұрын
Wayyy late, but orange and hot pink make good indicators. Color doesn’t matter, but these are the easiest to see

What brand/model of vice do you use? Or do you have any recommendations for a beginner getting into fly tying?
@seanmooney39078 жыл бұрын
The griffin mongoose is a great vise for a beginner and not a huge investment for someone, though beginning may not continue to tie. Many vises on eBay and some on craigslist as well. Those tiers thought they would always be tying too. He is using a regal and they are pretty pricey for a beginner, unless you know you won't quit tying. The vise and tools plus materials can get pretty expensive. All the best, Sean

Would this work as an indicator for nymphing?
@michaelbagrosky61368 жыл бұрын
Yes, I love using these as an indicator with drop shot midge or other little nymphs
