The Trico Hatch is my favorite time of the Summer, and I really don't like the dog days of summer much. My favorite tailwater the West Branch of the Framington right now has got a bit of a flow going due to the heavy rain that we have been getting of late. No matter, I got that wool, I got the hooks, and the tailing material, all I need is some 18/0 thread.

Brilliant, absolutely brilliant!

Brilliant idea to use the tag end to split the tails. I don’t think that technique was around the last time i tied a trico (20 years ago). Tricos must have grown in the last 20 years; we tied them in 26 and even 28. A 20 trico is a mutant.

Thanks #tightlinevideo , we're experiencing some of the best conditions on a Bow of the River that can be Mighty. Looks like the bugs are back in force after a terrible flood a decade ago. Lots of tiny Tricos here as well, mostly 18 and under... will my eyes survive your incredibly small ties? I think so. Great work, Tim. Thanks!

The wool wing looks marvelous, but I have a wool allergy. Do you think polypropylene or snowshoe rabbit’s foot would be acceptable as substitute materials for the wing?

Great trico for smaller sizes. Beats trying to separate Antron for the wing.

You’ve always talked about those “plunger hackle pliers” like i talk about quality toilet paper.

How do you like they SA tippet ?

would that work with other color wool then white ? just to see it better on the water
@martinhodell8465 Жыл бұрын
you could tie in white/light dun wings "spinner style" and then tie in a small vertical post in the bright orange. The resultant 'comparadun style' wing will have the bright spot in the middle and the natural colors on each side.

www.strikeindicator.com carries the wool white, orange, chartreuse and black. They now also have the wool in yarn form which is super handy.

@@tightlinevideo There's also a 'creamsicle' orange that is lighter as well as a more fluorescent green version on tiny plastic...well...donuts! All part of some new options. I'm not upselling, I was simply sorting the NZ stock that came in today.

I bet this would be a great fly but with poly wings to keep it afloat

I use hackle pliers to tie just about all flies nowadays...dexterity loss and arthritis aren't something I was warned about...lol

I need magnifiers just to tie a fly on a hook these days- I've gotten old! It dawned on me just the other day that I am going to be 70 sooner than later.
