Beautiful tie Matt. nice to see measurements laid out & using scissors like calipers. like Bugs Bunny, I often miss the turn at Albuquerque when fixing the wings. Tim, here's a post - super bowl twisted thought, baby monkey puppy fly. I'm sure you could turn that into a funny video. great production as always, thank you.

+Joe Duca That thing freaked me out, not Matt's fly, the baby monkey puppy thing.

I know! Matt's fly gorgeous! B,m,p commercial I couldn't figure out first time. third time was LOL! a little edgy, but it got attention. I would've picked a Lab puppy. just thought it would be fun like put a ring on it with the bondic video that we both thought of. guess I'm more twisted minded than you thought. you're talented enough to pull it off. however, I don't remember what ad was for, other than 3 favorite things in 1. like three flies in one, nymph, emerger, dun. not Matt's tie make one up. capeish?

Very nice fly. I can tie a good pair of wings and get the hackles correct, I usually protect the body with at least superglue on the shank so it lasts more than one fish. I can never seem to leave that much space at the eye though. Thanks for sharing. I love to tie small drys best, but since I can't fish them now, I am saving the hackle for when I can. Most of my friends just want wet flies. Maine has a long tradition of fishing feather streamers which are difficult to tie but worth the effort. All the best, Sean

Another great video full of great nerve and time saving tips. Back in the day, we used Blue Jay's wing, (now cdc) for small duns on Bosnian chalk streams. Worked well, great pigment match with real dun wings, and greatest of all one bit from one Jay's wing worked well. Here's an example: www.musicar.rs/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/slika-br.13-drugi-put-web.jpg

I could only hope to one day tie a Catskill remotely close to how well this one was done.

What are your top 10 flies you would recommend for a beginner fly fisherman?
@@coloradoflyguy5044 I know I'm late to the party, but I would trade the mop fly for the birds nest or copper john

That's a great fly, but, unfortunately, way too involved for my meagre tying skills...I struggle with a Mop-n-glo! Goodness knows how they tied these 200 years ago before the advent of tying vices.

In what location does that fly mainly work at?
@SkidinDingo7 жыл бұрын
i assume any, it looks to me like it is more of an impressionistic fly than an immitative. if i ever went to the trouble of tying one, i dont think i would hesitate to throw it anywhere there are mayflies and/or mosquitos, which is just about everywhere.

what's the difference between this and the blue quill

Phillip De Young Dun (blue quill) vs ginger hackle I believe.
