The biggest issue with these congresspeople is they don't actually want to seriously evaluate TikTok as a threat or pass legislation to improve national security. They want to LOOK hard on TikTok and the CCP while cameras are pointed at them so then they can play those clips and go "ohh look how hard I was on TikTok now vote for me" come election time. That's also the reason why they keep bizarrely asking about the CEO's nationality or whether he himself believes in Uyghur human rights abuses- that way they can argue that they're so hard on China (when in reality that has nothing to do with TikTok). Their minds were already made up on TikTok before the CEO said a word, and they just want to use the briefing to convince ignorant people to vote for them during elections.

About that hearing, that's standard for a congressional hearing because theres a disconnect between the witness and the representative. The representative is VERY crunched for time and wants very short succinct answers in the form of a yes or a no but the witness more often than not wants to delve into the nuance and "save face" by offering an explanation. In court, any court, congressional or otherwise, everyone making the inquiries do not want any more information than what they prompt you for. Offering more information than what was asked is simply not acceptable in a hearing format because its highly probable the witness will try to confuse you with detail. Basically, the more opportunity you have to speak, the more opportunity you have to lie - or incriminate yourself.

I think what they were inferring is; does it look at the data of other devices than the one you are currently using for tik tok? Because they rape our households personal digital information for advertising and I don't agree with it. That's why i don't use Facebook, nor tik tok. KZbin gives me survey after survey trying to see what ads I would like to see since I don't share my data. They believe Tik tok does more than keep data for advertising. I understand their point of view. Any human can come to America and make a social media app. Like a Chinese government ally that sends diagnostic ad data to China. I have had tik tok install itself three times on my phone without doing it myself. I get ads for it all the time. I don't trust tik tok. I'd rather trust Instagram rather than tik tok. Although Mark Zuckerberg does the same thing except he a white boi.

I feel like the main trend with any sort of congressional hearings is that it tends to highlight how ignorant and lacking in knowledge people in Congress can be things because they're out of touch; whether it's internet related, women's anatomy (I recall an instance of a congressmen thinking that the stomach somehow leads to the uterus), or video games (I.E. the old "video games make kids violent BS")
