I've lived in Florida my entire life, and recently my roomie (also a native Floridian) came to me recently, anxious and flustered, blathering about a hurricane that was "headed this way" that was gonna hit a cataclysmic category 6. When I patiently interjected that it wasn't possible as a Cat 6 hurricane "isn't a thing", he became immediately indignant, shouting that I wasn't as smart as I thought and berating me for not being prepared enough for "the impending catastrophe". When I reassured him that I had indeed, as always, properly stocked up all essentials, had the propane and gas tanks topped off, and had just trimmed the trees the weekend prior, he erupted in nonsensical doomerisms. I tried not to laugh _too_ hard at the time, but now that I know from which the story originated, I have been loudly guffawing in the next room, bombarding him with texts of ridicule, much to my roommate's consternation. If I were to try to convince people I was a Tik Tok time traveler, I'd look into the sorts of events that are both (a) unlikely overall, but reasonably possible, and (b) likely to affect a lot of people. Then I'd make 100s of accounts that each make 3-4 picks each. Then I'd delete the account(s) that weren't correct and leave the ones that were, and work on promoting those. If I thought about it deeply, I imagine I'd come up with many other ways to improve my odds and make a 'convincing' account. I think, at the least, I'd be left with a few accounts that got a few huge things correct and made me look like a boss (assuming you didn't know about the other hundred(s) of accounts that got it wrong).

It's the classic Nostradamus problem. If you have enough people making enough random predictions, eventually someone is gonna get lucky and get something right on the money. It's also a lot easier to suddenly "realize" a prediction came "true" when you're talking about something that has already happened, which gives you a big bias to match things up a little more than they probably should.

A lot of these TikTok time traveller "predictions" I noticed seems to take inspiration from whatever sci-fi show/movie is on Netflix or whatever. For nearly every one of these kinds of these videos, there will be that one prediction of a group of people (usually teenage friends) discovering something beyond human comprehension or just superpowers.
