Wow, the first ever custom DLC for SA1's Dreamcast version. It features a full scavenger hunt in the style of the official ones and both provides a way to access and is set in the Past Mystic Ruins.
Created by PkR, using research on Dreamcast DLC encryption by Sappharad.

This is kinda like childhood wish fulfillment for me, I always wished there was a way to return to the past, or to bring Tikal to the present!!

Same here, for the first one. As for bringing Tikal to the present, that happens in Super Sonic’s story during cutscenes.

Wow that's so cool that somebody made a new custom DLC for one of the first ever games that even had DLC. Not to mention such a great game that impacted so many of our lives. Thanks for sharing this, it's fun to see Sonic run around back in time in the old Temple. Made me realize that my obsession with ancient history and lost civilizations probably actually started in Sonic adventure 1.

I know your comment is 8 months old but I want to ask what you think of the first Yugioh series since that was about ancient Egypt. My interest in ancient cultures came from Yugioh. :D

Damn that’s cool, replacing the big hint things with Tikal’s light thing could look better though, and replacing the picture of Tikal with her actual model, then again I’m not entirely sure what is and isn’t possible. A unique stone portal at the end of the river would be really cool as well, instead of the sonic 06 magic mirror looking thing.

New 3D models aren't possible via SA1's DLC, and some things can't be scripted either yet (due to a lack of research). Give it another year-ish of research.

@@MiniLuigiMighty5 Isn’t she only in cutscenes, her model? Would it be easy to take her cutscene model out of a cutscene and paste it into the game do you think? If so I’d prefer this, but TBH I’d rather have Tikal’s spirit orb give me the mission and then run into Tikal’s actual model only when I go to the past since she can’t exist in body in the present. It would just make more sense that way I think.

@@robbiewalker2831 Can you be Tikal in that mod? I seem to remember you can play as Tikal in 2 player in Sonic Adventure 2 Battle. Did they get the model from there? But anyway we were talking about Tikal’s model in regards to this custom mission. Since it doesn’t take place in the past, I would prefer instead of a Tikal billboard, a Tikal spirit orb. I would still think that Tikal’s character model should exist in the past only. That being said, I think it would be really cool if you could go to the past whenever you wanted to via a portal of some kind.

I thought the Dreamcast sold well when it was in circulation and that it only slowed down when the PS2 came along with its DVD player. The Dreamcast lived well into 2010 with even new games appearing for it around that time iirc. I think it did rather well, so I’m not sure why you say “too bad about the console’s sales” :/

@@chaocobojun2098 This is a brief look-through from Wikipedia; however, it does make sense considering it was Sega’s last console they have ever made. The Dreamcast didn’t sell as well as they hope and they had financial losses (also it didn’t help that they had financial losses from the last console they released, the Sega Saturn): they even attempted price cuts early on to gain sales. It had a short-lifespan for only 3 years from its release to its discontinuation. Granted, this was not entirely the console’s fault: in fact, technology speaking, it would’ve been a fine competitor against the GameCube. Now that look at it, it does make sense why Sega was putting so much for this console: it was a “make-or-break” situation. As weird and noisy as that console is, I have a soft spot for the Dreamcast and it’s a downer how this was the end of Sega’s console market. If it were successful, they might’ve competed against X-Box in the online gaming market since the Dreamcast was the first console to experiment with online play.

I used to have a save file set aside for this purpose. I'd play up until the point where Tails is sent there after Sand Hill, then any time I felt like exploring there I'd load that file, and just make sure not to get the Rhythm Badge.

I wish there was a mod for the PC release that allowed you to go back to the past after completing the game. Such a simple warp but it always felt odd a whole two detailed maps were locked behind the story. This is so awesome!

I mean, this game still gets pretty good mods every now and then. especially when the Beta version of windy valley was able to be re-implemented (my favorite SA1 mod btw)

@@N0rlight Yeah, because it is not really needed with DX around on stronger hardware.(Or at least I hope everyone's PC is more powerful than a dreamcast) The mainreason this is on dreamcast is because the DLC-system is compatible with it...which makes sense, the original dlcs were for dreamcast.

It's running on the Demul emulator but this the the Dreamcast version of the game, yes.

If you can somehow get your Dreamcast online to download the DLC or modify the VMU to have the data installed, then it should run just fine.

Dreamcast hardware was beefy AF for the time. Wasn't until the PS2 that it was beaten in terms of computing capabilities.

@@HeyImLucious The Dreamcast is to the PS2 what the Switch is to the PS4, technology-wise. Not quite next-gen but made from all the best parts of the current gen, allowing it to stand above everything else and even punch above its weight class when treated with respect.

The gamesystems that start a consolegeneration always suffers in the long run because they desync interms of hardware generation. The switch is technically the competing force to PS5 on the logic that it replaced the wiiu, but it came out three years too early and it shows big time. Basically a spec of dust compared to the rock-situration.

Is there a way that I could connect Dreamcast to a private server (if I had a Dream Pi) and get both old and custom DLC for Sonic Adventure? Is there a way I could do something similar with a GameCube and the broadband adapter? (If I had one) Could somebody make the GameCube and Dreamcast editions of Sonic Adventure 1 compatible with one another via a private server or even do this with PSO?
