For baby dragons, it's best to just get the tank they will need as an adult. They are just fine with a large tank (think of in nature, they have TONS of room). No reason to start with a small tank. Start with a 75gallon like they will need as an adult. Put the heatlight on one side of the tank so they have a hot spot and a cooler side. No reason to waste money on a tiny tank when you are going to need a big one. Buy what you need up front, so you know your dragon has a cage for life. Telling people to buy a small tank will mean lots of dragons will be purchased in small tanks because they are cheap, then, the owners won't have money to get the larger tank they need very soon in the future.
@dandroiddoes35317 жыл бұрын
Some people put some kind of border in the large tank so it's smaller but yeah is nature they have miles of terrain but good point
@aliciak82517 жыл бұрын
If you get a large tank for a baby, you need to be careful when feeding them. Too much room means more crickets will be able to hide away, and if the crickets are in the tank unattended there is a risk that they will chew holes in the beardies skin
@earthling19847 жыл бұрын
Alicia Kincaid Really isn't an issue. The larger the cage the better. When putting in crickets just don't throw in too many at once. Mealworms, superworms, calciworms, etc. can be put in a plastic dish and they won't be able to escape. Best to get the proper large tank from the start.

WARNING: Do NOT use sand for their cage. When they eat their crickets (or food) They can pick up some of the sand and swallow it, This happened to a class pet we took over Christmas break, We realized he didn't act like our beaded dragon, he was slow, and weak, he didn't eat, Even though he was old we still knew something was not right. so we took him to the vet, and it turns out he ate to much sand and it clogged up his stomach, we gave him medicine and made him feel much better. Please don't make the same mistake this teacher did, This poor beardie was on his last leg.

Im not so sure, Im sorry I could not answer this question. Just be careful of what you put in your beardies cage. Do research and maybe check with your pet store. :)

sand actually isn’t awful, as long as you don’t feed your dragon on the sand they won’t get impacted, other substrates would be better but sand isn’t the worst. and i wouldn’t recommend walnut shells because they are very sharp, try using something like tile or paper towels that is not a loose substrate

After almost 7 years my husband and i lost our bearded dragon due to a sudden onset of symptoms we wanted to share with others the warning signs that we saw prior to losing what we considered our son 😢. Our little guy ray never once puffed up or black bearded us he never ran or pulled away all he did was cuddle us and be so sweet trying his hardest not to scratch us or to bite us when hand feeding him and we never had any health issues with him except one bout of worms. Our little guy has always been a little on the chunky side but we were unaware that what we thought was fat (the vet thought it was fat prior to the xray) was actually fluid surrounding his body cavity and it caused his lungs to collapse suddenly the doctor thinks he might have a tumor as well and we had about 3-4 days notice before our little man passed 😢 please if your beardy suddenly stops eating and seems to have tummy problems (our guys side was twitching a couple days prior we didnt know why we though he had to poop) please take him to the vet and get an xray done unless you want to lose your friend and family member as we did ours. 😢 we love you ray so much we will never forget this guy he was better than any dog or cat ive ever owned.

Lykos-Anubis Thought so :) Thanks
@saraparks40247 жыл бұрын
That's not correct in order to give your beardie a balanced diet you should give them crickets or roaches everyday and those should make up most of their diet but about 10% of their diet should be worms and I recommend alternating 2 days of meal worms and 1day of super worms if your beardie is a baby and if your beardie is an adult then you can add in hornworms
@lykosanubis7 жыл бұрын
Sara Parks Sure, go ahead and give those babies mealworms- watch them die of impaction. 😂😂😂😂 Guys, stay away from meal worms- super worms are good and wax worms are good, as are roaches and crickets. How often should you feed? How many times a day? Once in the morning, in the morning and night?

I rescued a beardie last night. He’s a year an a half and was being held in a 10 gal... he is stunted. He also never had a UVB... they were using a regular bulb to heat him 🙄 he has a slight ear infection and I left my uvb & heat lamp on over night just so it can make up for that year of his life with out it

He will be going to the vet Monday coming up. But he’s eating... I’m surprised he’s been alive this long with his conditions.

I remember my grandma told me in Mexico she used to catch horned lizard‘s even when she wasn’t very wealthy and poor she still knew how to catch them she go to junkyards and get boxes and drawers to make cage she would put some dirt in there she catch bugs she found outside and she fed it fruit she would find from trees I kind of think that’s how I got my interest and love for reptiles

I was wondering if you can keep babies in a 40-60 gallon straight away or if you have to keep them in a 15-20 gallon??
@honeyBee-ct8cu5 жыл бұрын
Anne Ibbott it’s best to put them in a big terrarium (40-60) when they’re younger so they have more room to run around.

I really really want to get a couple bearded dragons but I'm still confused on a couple of things. Do I bath them once a week regardless of if I have a water bowl for them in their enclosure? How much should I feed them a day? Do I need like a thermometer to measure the heat on each side of the tank to make sure that they wont get to cold or top hot?

So you guys said you recommend to bulbs one for each side of the enclosure how about 1 florescent tube from 1 side to the other
@fionashepley4786 жыл бұрын
Curtis Powers they need two lights: heat and UVB
@shednscalz46206 жыл бұрын
@@fionashepley478 No I know that but I think they were referring to 2 UVB bulbs one for each side
@fionashepley4786 жыл бұрын

Hi I’m getting a baby bearded dragon tommorw what do I use for the bottom bedding and what do I feed him he’s a baby and I’m really nervous I’ve only raised cats and dogs I got a 60 gallon tank and a question I have is. Do I turn the light off when I go to sleep at night or do I keep it on for ever
@sammansfield216 жыл бұрын
At least 12 hours for the uv light especially. Will end up very poorly otherwise. Make sure the heating lamp is close to 1 end of the Viv so they have a hot end and a cooler end x

Its Spongebob Squarepants I think that type of soil will give out way to much humidity, like the person above me said use reptile carpet, newspaper, blankets without any frayed ends, etc.
