Between living in a rural area and health issues that prevent me from attending most live events (on the rare occasion they're in a place I can get to) I frequently feel like I'm not "allowed" to call myself goth just because of that

Both of our scenes are welcoming. I will say that the notion of punching a nazi in the face is the general attitude. We are peaceful but some of us are still roughnecks in that regard. (When it comes to protecting people.) I'm Goth but still a punk at heart. In that I can be compassionate and erudite but I will rock a bigots **** if necessary. If a person feels mistreated by someone it is resolved generally by the organizers of the event. I enjoyed this podcast. Stay safe everyone, darkest blessings to you.❤❤

It has been a hot second since I have tuned in to a Cemetery Confession podcast, but this one was delightful. It is especially interesting because I imagine that the guests in this video are around the same age range that goths were having a moral panic over years ago, so it is a nice touch to end the discussion on poseurs and gatekeeping. I do think that it is also interesting that it has gone from "why is no one trad goth anymore?" to "trad goth is the standard" which I don't think is a coincidence, regarding the aforementioned panic that a lot of big goth creators made videos about. I think the truly nuanced take is that bad faith gatekeepers and ego-centric poseurs tend to actually just be the same person. I also just wanted to touch on the "is goth political" discussion because I know I had made a comment on the podcast episode argueing that it wasn't and I completely disagree with that take now. Goth is political and it should be moreso, especially with all the anti-drag laws being passed in the US, as mentioned in the episode. Love that this is the episode that I have revisited the podcast to.

Excellent podcast! 🦇I was so excited for this discussion. It was very insightful, fascinating, and soothing to hear everyone’s experiences within the subculture and thoughts on these topics. I would also love to see another episode about the goth scene and Instagram as well~ even though there are a lot of similarities with TikTok. Never understood why people see gatekeeping as solely bad. Yes, it can be used to be rude and mean but it is also a way to protect newcomers. Gates open, close and swing in many directions. They keep lambs in and wolves at bay. You can both encourage babybats and prevent harmful entities by utilizing a barrier. I guess it's easier to see a keeper as being a way to withold and not a gate gaurdian. Curious about the Peter Steele thing. I have heard people make this claim off not understanding lyrics or knowing about "Vinlands" history. If anyone has a direct source, it would be appreciated. Of all the things I've seen or people that met him have said is he was openly anti-racist to the point of calling people out on shitty behavior. It's a possibility that this could have been a false presentation and if there is evidence to the contrary it would be nice to know about it.
