I started asking myself “if you lost your job, would you regret this purchase?” and suddenly, I am ad-proof. Good luck selling me something.

Thank you this! I felt like i was going INSANE especially as of late- and i dont even have tiktok! it just feels like now more than ever, we're always being advertised, being sold something or some service, some app, and it makes me feel a little distrustful of all content creators and influencers. I like the little history lesson you added in the front to give us more of a rooted context- great video!

I hate this whole trap of that we HAVE to romanticize something, either the reality we want or the reality we have. We are bombarded with negativity day in and day out, we want to escape, and TikTok's easily accessible store can give us that escape with a tap of a finger. The only way to combat this is to unplug your brain from all of this asinine, empty content, retrain your brain to not be addicted to purchases, and live your life. Nothing is better than feeling financially secure. A shirt or a skin product will NEVER change your life. Only YOU will. Edit: I went on a rant without saying that this was a good video! Very well thought out!

I hate ads so much. They ruin the flow of what you're watching, and it's for the same like 10 brands. They always make you feel some kind of way about yourself in order to make you buy their product. It's a damn nightmare. I wanna see ads for small mom and pop shops, not corporations with international fame. Honestly I will say that it is important to give ads the coverage under the government because if they didn't then people will be bigoted about it saying they don't want "xyz group" in their ads. Like it sounds stupid, but given the country we live in it's best to also include this. Ads have artistic talent put into them, and art should always be protected under the law.

A tour de force, Dion. I am so proud and admiring of you. The image research that you put into this is staggering. "People capitalism"! Ho ho ho. I had never heard of that one before. I am not on Tik Tok but the title of this vid is TikTok Brain Rot and I totally get that. Dion knows that I don't have a television, I haven't had a TV in over 20 years, I didn't watch TV when I was in college. And when I went home on break and watched the same shows that I watched growing up with my family, I felt my brain rotting by the minute. You're a captive audience not only to the brain rotted sit com but also to the ads. The invention of the channel changer threw corporate America into fits. "Whoa! Wait a minute, you can't do THAT!" Little did we know. You can't escape advertising. That makes you a captive. Predatory advertising: YOU GUYS HAVE NO IDEA! I think it was in Marshall McLuhan's book The Medium is the Message where the SUBLIMINAL advertising of alcohol was exposed. Say, you'd have a good-looking guy next to a bottle of whiskey and a glass holding same. In the beautiful amber fluid was a stylized image of...a naked woman! Corporate personhood: When I first read i poli sci class or maybe in law school that way back, in the 1920's or something, the courts ruled that a corporation had many of the same rights as a person, I remember my instant reaction: "Mistake." If I only KNEW! BEEG MISTAKE!!!! Remarkable video, much appreciated and needed. One one captive to another, "This Bud's for all that you do".A million👍👏

I can't stand everything being an ad anymore too. I try to share very chill, silly, authentic, free content on TikTok, or talk about a topic I care about for maybe for 1-2 minutes.. and it puts me in 200 view jail no matter what, because people expect either thirst traps, dances with gymnastics, extremely stimulating ASMR, sports, or gaming, but if you're just vibing and trying to start real discussions?? Nope. 200 view jail. The algorithm punishes you for being *boring* , not exceptionally pretty, and not pushing any products. I would maybe start a new TikTok just for art but even that feels almost pointless unless I want to spend all my time making funny animatics, but I have a full time day job too, and TikTok seems to punish people who don't make the platform their primary use of time, or penalizes sporadic posting. And good art takes time!!!

I think we need to stop saying things like 'get your bag' in defense of people filming this garbage bc economy things cost money etc etc but saying 'oo yeah get your bag' in reference to this kind of trash marketing gives people an excuse/defense to film it. like yeah they're gonna film it anyway but there's things we say that give them that defense.
