i feel kinda bad for the people who get caught up in fashion trends-they never get the chance to think about their personal style, since once you have that figured out, you actually end up being really happy with what’s currently in your closet and also feel happier with what you wear everyday!
@jungyaru2 ай бұрын
I don't know. I've liked a lot of fashion trends in the past few years, like the whole y2k wave. I feel like trends help people find their own style, like I do. I like a lot of different styles though so maybe that's why I have my own style..And I never liked the clothes I used to wear. I always liked wearing different clothes, trending or not.
@evaphillips21022 ай бұрын
These trends can help people find their Fashion identities. My sister in law hopped on the Y2K fashion train in 2020 as she graduated HS and she hasn’t gotten off since because that’s just who she is 🤷🏾♀️ What gives a trend depth is its subculture I think. The activities you partake in when you’re not on social media, the movies you watch, the music, the community. It’s not all dark side.

The last girl really summed it up perfectly. I think people over consume because they want to fill some void in their life. I’m an emotional shopper and I always feel guilty after I buy something that I didn’t truly want or planned for. Seeing hauls gives me anxiety because it reminds me of how I use to spend and that makes me sick. I’ve been working on shopping more intentionally but it’s a work in progress and I do still make mistakes from time to time which is ok, since it’s a learning process. I don’t like when people say that people are hating on creators because they wish they had all that stuff 😂 I’m sorry but the more stuff you have the more space it takes up in your home and your mind. And the more time it takes to up keep. No thank you!

This video is incredible. Well said and done. I deleted tiktok in 2022 because it heavily impacted my mental health. I was so insecure mentally and physically and I didn’t like anything I was told to do on TikTok. I made the leap to delete it and I’ve felt so in touch with reality and at peace within myself. I started noticing huge improvements in my life and I live more intentionally and aware now. I worked at a place where all the girls my age were constantly on tiktok at the job. Some of them told me their screen time was 12 hours a day on the app. They even asked me how I “function” without the app and I felt really left out because they were constantly doing trends and talking about things on the app that I wasn’t aware about. It honestly made me feel bad for them. I’m not saying I’m a better person for not having it. I just think it’s sad how people in my generation and younger depend on an app that alters their mindsets and ways of thinking and doing things. It’s a major distraction from reality and I think that’s not talked about enough. I enjoyed going through these comments to see other perspectives as well!!❤️
@summer55862 ай бұрын
My frustration is that I don’t even have TikTok and I still can’t escape it. I primarily use Instagram and they are working sooooo hard to make the platform just like TikTok. There have been so many small changes lately to match the functions and look to TikTok and it’s really off-putting. I have to search for posts that aren’t reels from creators I follow because the reels are so heavily pushed now. I’m getting less and less interested in social media all together lately and find myself gravitating back towards long-form content on KZbin

I love seeing videos by people who talk about thrifting, sustainability, up cycling, and if they are a shopping channel, they sell on their stores or do give aways to the viewers have the clothes instead of them being trashed. I also like hearing how companies can try to package things without using individual bags. I personally like the ones you can reuse, but there shouldn’t be a bunch of plastic in each package. Mia Maples did a video about Ten Trees and they only individually packages one item which is impressive. Hope Scope did a video about thrifting in the richest city and the poorest city. I loved seeing how she made a list of back to school shoes in the richest city so she can donate them to Flint (the poorest). And there were other videos where she donated some of the things she bought to a children’s hospital or to her viewers. This is long enough, but I love how some can create fun videos, but constantly strive to find new purposes for everything you buy and to not throw anything away if there is a purpose for it.

You look amazing and excellent video! I don’t have Tic Tok, but I am definitely guilty of being a huge collector of Starbucks cups (I know I have over 100 cups which I love), but I have slowed down so much and rarely buy anything. The extra cups that I have that are brand new, I give them away (for free), gift and donate. The last several that I have donated went to one of my cup buddies friends who is a teacher, who host an auction where all the proceeds goes to their student union. I honestly used to love to go cup hunting with my friends, because it was more than just getting the cup, it was the bonding, making friends and the community…but over the past few years, things have gotten really ugly which honestly deterred a lot of people from collecting, myself included. Again, I love all the cups I have (yes I have more than what’s necessary or ever needed), but definitely see how fast you can get caught up in the FOMO, because that’s where a lot of the cups came from when I first started collecting…and the resellers definitely made things even worse. I also slowed down and checked myself when it comes to cups and perfume… I started going down the rabbit hole of perfume KZbin… And Middle Eastern/Arabian fragrances, and I had to cut myself off. I didn’t buy too many, and most of the ones that I bought are staples for sure… But I definitely put my breaks on… it’s honestly scary just how quickly you can go down these rabbit holes and not even realize it.

I feel like if people realized that it didn’t have to be all or nothing it would be easier for people to accomplish. Like start with reducing spending in one aspect or putting a screen cap on one app, and eventually the rest will follow. And it’s normal to splurge sometimes or make an impulse purchase. I have a couple of positives and/or questions about the restocking videos. Some of it. Fruits, vegetables, and cereal does tend to stay fresh for a longer time when it is food safe containers. And it keeps pests out of the food. Question: what about zero waste people. They do try to prevent waste by using reusable jars and containers, but the stuff they buy (when they can’t avoid it) are in plastic and cardboard boxes/ packaging. Lastly, I like the ones where teachers do it for students who need hygiene products or school supplies that they can have access to without judgment. Other than those, I agree. It does promote overconsumption.
@ZenCat12 ай бұрын
I’ve realized people loveee to profit off things they naturally have and are just within their genetics. So many give credit to products in order to promote them and make money off people and it’s so upsetting. I swear there are so many girls who have clear skin naturally or a slim figure and will accredit that to expensive skin care products, overpriced health foods, and different supplements that are not essential. I think people are almost ashamed nowadays to be like yea I’m just naturally skinny instead of saying they work out and drink green juice everyday and that’s why they are skinny or have an athletic figure, just for example. Almost as if they are afraid of being called a “pick me” or “fraud” out of someone else’s own insecurities.

My problem with overconsumption is because it attributes a lot to global pollution. All those short-lasting mostly plastic things and fast fashion that would be thrown away with first new trends is creating large piles of garbage which can not disintegrate and it's hard to get rid of. Polluting everything. Which is why we all need to promote buying quality stuff that will last for long long time. Like people used to before. Decades or even hundred years ago things were produced to last, not to be ditched after few years or months. That's why everything is full of garbage now. Maybe it's time, for the sake of the Earth, for influencers to promote things that will last, that are quality, that at very least, can be sold or given away and not just tossed into trash.

Another medium of consumerism is vlogs. Vlogs are just people showing off what they buy. Just video ads. I stopped consuming the few I was watching because I got drained. Products constantly in my face, like don't they have lives outside consumerism? What's so interesting in seeing your toiletries, groceries and clothes? Nothing to show but their shopping lists? I don't like content creators/influencers for this. I just watch my dramas and video essays - things that promote thinking, cognizance.

Sorry. Last one. I watched this show Velvet set in the 50s, I believe. It made me crave slow fashion again. Seeing the process on how women get their dresses is glamorous yet makes you appreciate it. First, they notice it on the mannequin. Next, the company shows them the fabric samples with the different colors and patterns. Then, the seamstresses help create and tailor the dress to the client. This way, you have time to save for the dress you want, have your exact measurements, and still feel you part of a trend without over consuming to obtain it. And it lasts longer.

The only clothes I buy now are basics. I stay away from trends...even if I think it's cute

Trends are ridiculous! Just go with what works for you, embrace how unique you are, made in God’s image! I never thought I would’ve get a Stanley myself but I saw a vintage Barbie design I like however part of the inside lid looks like not fully nice looking new so I’m a bit upset about that but I can stay hydrated with more water. I haven’t seen it hold ice longer yet but mostly those who had these Stanley cups longer do have bigger ice they put in their cup. I also appreciate the handlebar so I don’t drop my water bottle. I could not believe the wild behavior in order to get the cup in store/ hearing people say how children got this for Christmas. These children are spoiled and I feel like they shouldn’t know what a Stanley cup is nor skin care. They should just enjoy their childhood without trying to get what is the latest thing or what is mainly for adults more than what they think is for them. Overconsumption is concerning. Whatever isn’t used shouldn’t be wasted. If it’s not needed then pray for self-control on to not buy what is not needed.

I hate when people do things only because it's trending and not because they actually like or need it. However, the 2020 alt trend introduced me to a lot of different styles that I like today, so it's not always a bad thing. The whole y2k trend has nonetheless inspired people to dress cooler, at least.

I just have Ralph macchio edits on mine…💀I think you usually just have to find the right kind of content that you know is good for you. That’s what I did with all my platforms and it works for me. There’s barely anything negative

I wish I had the guts to inquire. As much as I’d love to share my story, I also don’t feel 100% comfy with getting all of that out there 😢 maybe one day.
