I’m going to be honest. In the past, I had a bad habit of oversharing and had to learn the hard way. Most people don’t care and sometimes they will even use what you tell them against you. Also for me the reason why I over shared online back then is because I didn’t have real friends and I went through something traumatic and watched my friends turned their backs on me when I tried opening up to them. Sometimes people overshare online because they feel alone and don’t have friends to talk to. Either way, I found out that people on social media don’t care either. Now I only tell trusted loved ones, my therapist, and my diary all of my business.

This topic was addressed when Instagram became popular but many people ignored it when they got blue checks and likes. Now anyone can buy it and everyone can film you whether you are aware of it or not. About ten years ago I remember being on the phone with my sister while outside telling my sister what I was seeing happened in front of me. First thing she said was I should film it and post it to Instagram. I told her no because if I was in the person situation I would not like my image out there for all to see without knowing it was out there. She said she didn't think of that and she would stop doing that. She didn't stop until her boyfriend posted something about her and she found out later. Even during the zoom meetings I was the first to use the background filters so my coworkers didn't see inside my home. I never cared for over sharing from when I was a child and the grandparents, aunts and uncle asked if I was a woman yet. But that's my opinion on the topic.

So sorry, I feel alone at times, and I want to share. I don't mind people over sharing as some of us are not messy or evil, so we can appreciate and help one another. It's sad that most are messy, miserable human beings, and just want you down like them.. Christ is our REDEEMER and I lean on him, and other sisters and brothers in him. So don't let them bring you down, some people really get help from our testimonies. ❤ Much love 🎉

I think another reason of oversharing is that we've become so detached from our own personal lives. We as in the people who overshare. Life is no longer about having genuine moments and lived experience, but more as commodity and a pathway to fame and success. An outcome that very much born of captialism and social media. If people stopped being compensated with fame and money for oversharing, there would be less of it going on. Though we might get there since a lot of people sharing so much dont seem to be living a genuine life.

You don’t have to over share to share aspects of ur life like Rihanna for example. Beyonce could talk about her fav looks, if she likes her hair better up or down, does she prefer stilettos or platforms, her fav collab, some of her fav looks on Kelly & Michelle, if she likes a natural or full glam beat, her fav stylists, her deciding to wear the honey blonde indefinitely, encouraging working moms-the list goes on and none of that really tells her personal business.

We are in the time of idolatry. In the Bible, it definitely states we are in the last days when people become lovers of self. Not only are people loving these "celebrities " as an idol, these celebrities are becoming lovers of self, hence the obsession over their own looks and success. I will agree we are in the last times, and we are now seeing who is for God and who is for the world. For those who are believers of christ, we were warned that everything will be revealed, that's why celebrities are telling it all because it was all written that the truth of things will be told. I think the reason why celebrity brands don't do well is because most of the time they bank on the the influence and fame of the celebrity instead of making good products that can compete with existing products on the market. Unfortunately when your product isn't that good and you don't have much influence because you don't share that much on social media, your brand isn't going to do well. I recommend the following KZbin channels 1. Under stitch 2. Under skin He really goes deep into why celebrity and non celebrity fashion and beauty brands do well or fail.

In terms of engagement and product sales, transparency is definitely a factor that can aid in success. I do feel like now some celebrities and influencers feel a sense of power in not oversharing. They want to share their lives, but just enough and not too much. Perhaps the whole ‘I’m still a person’ mindset is what drives this? Just because I’m a celebrity doesn’t mean I have to share every last detail of my life with the world if I don’t WANT to. Of course that comes with its consequences seeing that people feel disconnected, but I think people as people reserve the right to decide how open they want to be about their personal lives; they just have to know if they live in secrecy they won’t reap the same benefits as someone who may be more transparent!

Parasocial relationships are really interesting and they can be kind of scary. People get a sense that they really know someone online and that's when creepy weird behavior happens. At that last VidCon that just happened I thought to myself, "It would be so scary to put yourself out there and not know if you had some crazed obsessive superfan that was going to try to get close to you and touch you or cut off some of your hair or something for their weird collection." I know most people aren't like that but there are people out there that get really obsessed and feel like they KNOW these influencers and celebrities and they really don't. The thing about posting kids and relationships online... That's just crazy. People getting upset that you're not posting pictures of your children is nuts!!!!! Kids are entitled to privacy and I don't see anything wrong with influencers and celebrities trying to protect their children from all the comments online and from prying eyes that want to know everything about them.

I say this with all respect. Anybody to proclaim they’re truly a Christ follower shouldn’t be listening to artists like Beyoncé. I see why people question if you’re Christian why would you listen to her because she openly mocks the LORD in her music. Again I say this is love, but a lot of people believe that the LORD is real , go to church, and read the Bible ,but that doesn’t make them a sincere follower of Jesus Christ. That’s make them a a person to thinks they’re right with the LORD,but aren’t. The Bible calls it “A form of godliness.” It also can leave people confused who don’t claim to be Christian confused about what a sincere Christian is and some can view Christian’s as a whole and hypocrites. I’m not saying everything song that’s secular is bad, or every movie that’s secular is bad,but a Christ follower should be known by their lifestyle by how they live though we know no one is perfect. However I’ll say this if your heart is truly seeking to get closer to the LORD may the LORD keep drawing you closer to HIM by HIS grace and mercy alone that can lead anyone will a willing head to turn away from sin;repent. this is such a great topic and video! as im growing in the content space i've been thinking about how to better build my personal brand without oversharing because i am just not the type of person to share SUPER personal things...but i also don't think you have to in order to have a strong personal brand! I think its less about knowing every detail of someones life, and more about *personality* because it allows the audience to relate and decide if they like someone or not. Rihanna and Tyla, for example, are celebs who we know their sense of humor, little back stories about their life, things they like and don't like, why they made certain decisions, how they respond to certain things, how they interact with others (celeb or not), etc. Yet we don't know all their business (especially Tyla because she's new to the game). and i admire that balance! Personality makes all the difference...even if it's not for everyone, someone will gravitate toward you! I want to master that lol
