Goumi (Elaeagnus multiflora): Prune to any shape, heavy fruiting, drought tolerant, nitrogen-fixing, wildlife friendly, self-fertile, frost-tolerant blooms, pest/disease free, adaptable to nutrient poor soil, and sturdy & strong. The more sun she gets, the more fruit you get! Goumi Berry has more heart-healthy lycopene than the tomato, has vitamins A, C and E, minerals, and is a fairly good source of essential fatty acids. i l.o.v.e. this girl! ;) we grow the Tillamook Goumi & Sweet Scarlet Goumi, Elaeagnus multiflora.

I have the Carmine Goumi from Burnt Ridge which i hear is the same as the Tillamook. I thought of buying the Sweet scarlet but wasn't sure on the fruit size differences between them. i did purchase a goumi from a Cali nursery on line last autumn. They referred to it as a Sherman goumi. I guess i'll see where that leads in a year. I just came from Ross the fig guys channel and He swears up and down about the Carmine/Tillamook Goumi. He seems to have difficulty propagating it.

Carmine?!?!?! i wonder if it's a Tillamook named after a gardener's wife 😂. RE the fruit size (Till' vs SS) was clear; i really look forward to fatter berries. 🤯 interesting; i'm making a note; i knew only of the two i have, and the Red Gem. Carmine & Sherman -- let's see what's going on.... (thanks for the heads up!). propagation: edited off this vid: in Oct 2022, i stuck two pruned Till' branches into soil (maybe 2-yr wood and 1 was 1-yr wood). no hormones. both budded and leafed-out this spring. i dug one up early June 2023 -- no roots. i'm read that it takes 12 months to propagate by cuttings or layering :/ (heppy.org/goumi-elaeagnus/#Propagating_Goumi) thanks for the feedback Kinni

Self fertile! Glad ur interested in the Goumi! More is here, heppy.org/goumi/ I have not worked with haskap berries yet; I sense that the they'll need a cool spot here in Maryland. I have them on my wish list. I just looked em up. Zone 2-7. They'll need shade in MD. What zone are you in? Goumi are resilient; flowers bloom early and an early frost doesn't phase them. Good luck!

no -- traditionally. Well, I have them for pick-up only in Fort Washington, MD ;) Yes, I cannot believe more folks don't offer and plant the Goumi! It's a stellar fruiting shrub. I can be reached at usc333@gmail.com if you'd want to swing by. @heppylifestyle Жыл бұрын
Ambekia -- i'm sorry to hear of your troubles! you'd "like to be a goumi berry plant"? that's way cool 🤣 about the seeds / Amazon: avoid. i love amazon but folks selling plants, ironically, are sketchy. but, seeds do take about a year to germinate (we eat in May/June, stick seeds in soil, and they germinate the following spring). i think they have to go through the cold winter period in the soil ("stratification" or, most folks stratify using their fridge). to find them: google, google, google. i google til my eye fall out; BUT, so many plants have been flying through nurseries during and since covid. you're not alone. i get it. i'm SO overwhelmed with work; otherwise, i'd send you one. i don't ship plants so it's not like i know what i'm doing, and have the stuff. if you can't find a goumi by winter, let me know. we can work something out. if you or a friend is in the washington dc area, let me know. oh, and i hope you subscribed!! ;) sorry, i wasn't much help but you're not alone with the frustration of getting quality, unusual fruiting plants. sincerely, pete moss
