Rice and Brown were a DEADLY receiver tandem, perhaps the best pairing in NFL history. Who in their right mind would even think of 'moving on from a pair of road rockets like them?

That ending. Man I miss Greg Popa's voice. Also, many forget, people often laughed at, and criticized, those late 90's/early 2000's Raider teams calling us a retirement home for former mvps/ex-probowlers/SB Champs that no one wanted. We had the oldest roster in the NFL back then. They laugh; we just kept winning. Then came all the "I told you so" after our shellacking in the superbowl. Such a shame they never got a ring for all they accomplished. Still, if not for so many pick 6's thrown and failed 2pt conversions it was virtually a tie game. Half of the team showing up drunk/hungover, perhaps, hurt us the most.

As I have said many times, Al Davis and Gruden needed each other so badly at that point in their careers. Shame Al blew it, but Gruden also had a huge ego that was his undoing - he needed someone like Al to check him.

I never knew this, but it now causes me to lose all respect for Al Davis, who I always liked growing up as a Raiders fan in the 90s. I used to always wonder why the team would never perform up to its potential, with 4 Heisman winners on the same team! (M. Allen, Bo, T. Brown, Plunkett). Now I know, and it's sickening because that was a fun team to watch, and it could've been even better!

Al Davis ego kept him from winning in the 2000’s. He thought Gruden was getting too big too famous due to the Raiders marketing team putting Gruden on a billboard in Oakland. Al hated anyone who was being looked at as being bigger than the “shield”. Great concept except Al was the shield in his mind and nobody was going to be bigger than him.

I LOVE the Raiders. R.I.P. What's happening in Vegas can stay in Vegas because its not the Raiders. I wish Oakland could've done like Cleveland and retained the rights to the name, logo, and colors. Tim Brown is my favorite player of all time. What he says in the interview above makes me dislike (to put it very mildly) Al Davis even more than I already did. Wow. There are the Raider fans who worship Al Davis and say things like "Al Davis WAS the Raiders!" Then there are people like me who see reality and recognize that Davis drove the Raiders into the ground. Other than Stabler, which QB did Al draft and develop into a franchise player? After Ron Wolf left in 84, how did Al do in the draft (hint: took a kicker in the first round, took JamarcusRussell#1 overall, gave up two first round picks for an old Richard Seymour). What did Al do with a very successful Jon Gruden? Traded him. He moved the team twice in 13 years (and threatened to move it elsewhere). He essentially relegated Marcus Allen to playing fullback (if he was in the game at all). Madden, Flores, Gruden: a total of less than 20 years. Al was with the Raiders for nearly 50 years. Do the math. Davis ruined the Raiders. He was managing partner, not owner, let alone founder. The Raiders are much bigger than Al Davis, and without him they could've been much better. If you want to give him credit for the late 60s through early 80s, go for it. Just be consistent while looking at the Raiders after that. Maybe one day the Raiders will be back home in Oakland (they came back the first time 🤞).

Al Davis was the man behind the curtain in the Wizard of OZ. No body going to be bigger than OZ. Why didn't Tim Brown tell Al Davis he wanted to be traded so he could be an MVP in the red zone? Al Davis had the greatest running backs in the NFL Bo Jackson, Marcus Allen, Marshawn Lynch, Napoleon Kaufman, Micheal Bush Clairance Davis, LaMount Jordan, Eric Dickerson, Darren McFadden, Tyrone Wheatley, Mark Van Egan, Marv Hubber, Steve Smith, Justin Fargus, did I miss anyone? Al Davis is going to run the football in the red zone. I hate when ole athletes complaint on an ole Al Davis years. John Madden and his players got the job done fine with a young Al Davis.
