Tim Duncan at this point in his career was insanely great. Look at these highlights. He is controlling every single facet of the game. His defense is impeccable, his offensive game so complete, his court vision and passing rivals that of top point guards, his leadership is off the charts. In an era of too many one dimensional offensive players, Tim truly he is one of the 10 best to ever play..

The timing, the court vision, where he stood and how he knew what to do in every play, the hunger to win, even some hoops which of course gradually lost as the effects of his injury became more apparent, 2003 Duncan had it all. According to basketball-reference no other single player, including Lebron James, has made more for his team during the playoffs to win a championship in the history of the league.

The NBA will never be the same. Thank you Tim Duncan.

This 2003 team of San An was so good. It didn't matter if they played the Pistons or Nets because I knew they were gonna win it right from the beginning. Every game was a 6 game series. Tim Duncan became the 3rd player to win league and NBA Finals MVP behind Shaq and MJ something LeBron will never do.

the thing is, when you watched Tim play, you would always notice the impact first and foremost, whether he ended up with amazing stats or not. There's a clear difference between someone who compiles stats, and someone who gets stats through impacting the game, and Duncan was most definitely the latter.

The quality of this video starting at 6:04, it looks like this game took place in the 80's.
Don't be so sure of that, watch tape on Russell, you'll see that he was actually pretty darn quick for a center, his on-ball defense, defensive timing and awareness and shot-blocking were on par with any defender in history. Which is why he was SOO dominant.
@Ometecuhtli4 жыл бұрын
Russell was extremely well coordinated and had great timing! He was one hell of an athlete.

What separates Duncan from any other power forward in NBA history....Go to 3:29 and watch him snag a rebound after contesting a Kenyon Martin drive, then he leads the fastbreak himself, and finally, he throws a picture perfect bounce pass on the money to a cutting Ginobli for a layup. Truly remarkable stuff from a 6'11 power forward/center. The only guy that was probably capable of doing that at that size was Bill Russell back in his day. #TheBigFundamental

You forgot about Robinson, who actually played this series... His career was plagued by an injury that brought Timmy to the Spurs. He was rookie of the year, MVP, got a scoring title and DPOY, 2 rings, bunch of all star appearences up untill the injury, and he is HoF... I'd go with Robinson/Duncan/Olajuwon/Jordan/Magic... Just for the lulz.

Duncan was a PF, hakeem center.

The 2003 playoffs were pure brilliance by Tim Duncan. The Spurs had a good squad but individually weren't the best players you'd pick for a championship team. It was Robinson's last year and it showed, Parker was just 20 years of age and didn't even play the deciding quarter against the Nets. Ginobili was injured and even during the playoffs was still adjusting to the team's style of play. Jackson was their second best player but couldn't rely on him too much because of his personality and the way he conducted himself on and off the court. The rest were mostly players past their primes and obviously couldn't contribute much if it wasn't for what the others could do, role players through and through. It was also a time when the western conference was superior to the eastern one, there was not a single series that they could just rest (all played for the first time to 4 games) for the next one, faced the defending champion Lakers with both Shaq and Kobe in their primes, the best defense in the league in the Nets and they beat them all in convincing fashion. If you watched this series only you'd think Kenyon Martin was just a good player while in reality he was considered one of the best emerging PFs in the game, and he got no chance against Tim. Don't get me wrong, I love Parker and what he did to the franchise, but to this day, and I think he does too, I wonder what would've happened if they landed Jason Kidd for the next season.
@badexperiment11 жыл бұрын
if you're going for the best team, rather than just picking the best players of all time for that position, i'd put pippen instead of bird. you don't really need extra scoring with jordan on the perimeter, kareem and duncan inside and magic feeding them the ball. pippen can space the floor too plus he's a much better defender.
