I got one of these little amps, and I must say, after lifting 100 lb amp heads, and cabinets over my 40 years of playing, that this gem is great to have. Weighs 2 lbs, and my cabinet MOJOTONE cab weighs 18 lbs with speaker, so my little rig with the head and speaker is a combination of 20 lbs. Thank you Quilter and MojoTone, because my soon to be 56 year old back and shoulders have had it. No more huge am heads with tubes, and no more 4-12 cabinets for me. Those days are over. Oh yeah, speaking of this Quilter 101 R head, I really like it for what I use it for. Some classic rock, and mostly for jazz fusion/funk, and sometimes ambient guitar type of stuff. Quilter is great.

I think the True Tone of an amp only comes out when played clean (at least the amps that can be played clean). Once you add overdrive or heavier Distortion, they can all kind of sound the same. Clean is where the Amp's Character is heard. Thank you for the great Demo, commentary and beautiful playing.

Agree 100% - I love the tone of a Crystal-Clean amp. I use pedals for overdrive ( when needed ). I have a 65 Princeton Reverb = Tone heaven, but the Quilter sounds excellent.

I'm glad I didn't buy the original Quilter 101 Mini Head (which I came close to buying!), as I really felt that I needed an amp with reverb. The 101 Reverb has a nice reverb, without the shrill reverb 'tail' of other amps / effects in the market. When I hear Tim play, it tone reminds me of a Fishman Loudbox.

Well, you’ve sold me on one! Of course, I expected that when I visited you channel, Tim. I knew the amp was going to sound incredible, but having your stamp of approval is worth a lot. Have you tried the DV Mark series of mini amps?
@pigsyj50084 жыл бұрын
Hi Tim, I love you're playing and in particular the sound you get from the Telecaster. You've inspired me to set up my old Telecaster for jazz purposes. You mentioned the Princeton on another video for the Telecaster - are there any other small amps that you'd recommend that might work for the Telecaster and an Archtop? I'm looking for a very warm sound sometimes but something more bluesy with a bit more bite - a lot to ask I know. These kind of amps are very difficult to try where I live and would have to purchase them sight unseen. Thanks for any advice you can offer.

I came here for a demo of this amp but was at least as much impressed by the playing, Tim, and your tone, finesse, beautiful chord melody and vibe. What I really haven't heard in a demo of this amp is how loud it can be while remaining clean. I like to use a very clean sound along with pedals to get any kind of overdrive, distortion, etc. and still don't know if there's enough clean headroom to play with 4 or 5 guys using 400 watt Peaveys on a country or blues stage. I'm used to playing a MusicMan 65 watt amp with an EV 12" speaker and I get the volume I need from that. But I'm hauling an amp that weighs close to 50 lbs. I've never had the gain past 3 or 4, tops, with the master at 10, and wonder if this amp can give me near as much clean headroom at medium-loud stage volume. Any thoughts on this? Anyone? Thanks for a fine demo, Tim!
@TimLerchGuitar7 жыл бұрын
this amp is reasonably loud and clean but I think for the circumstance you describe that you might be better off with the more powerful power block 200 (?)
@mbvglider6 жыл бұрын
You should consider the Micro Pro Mach 2 HD, then. That would probably be loud enough.

My story on finding out about this Quilter gear came from an effort to thin out extra Equip. I had for consignment sales, . . then I happened to stop in at the shop to check on results for recent sales & 2 collect for my earnings ~ then sat down & tried out a 101 mini Reverb ( 7 knob ~ 50 Watt )~ with an off brand Tele Clone guitar that this shop was trying to sell, then grabbed 1 of my Franken-Strats that was still unsold & was knocked out by how effective this Lil' head sounded !!!!!!. I ended up pulling the remainder of all other quitar's I had left there & went on-line to purchase 1 for myself !!! Ended up getting another Quiler version of the 100 watt 5 knob, with modeling preset feature, & am sold on the functionality of this kind of Head !!!!! I am really sold on what these have to offer !!! I have extra solo cabs loaded with great Vintage speakers at home, so when you consider the feature of 2 speaker out-put jacks, that are not affected by the Ohm loads,. . . 1 can mix & combine 2 completely different sounding & sized speakers at the same time, . . as long as power rating is not exceeded & have a ball !!!!! I have just found out that a Mini 101 head will fit up near headstock for a Strat style Tweed Suitcase, with an upper void ( an option for in a pinch take with !!! )
@JohnHorneGuitar7 жыл бұрын
Maybe this is a weird question, but how does the amp feel? I think you probably know what I mean. Solid state amps don't seem to respond to dynamics the same way tube amps do. Some get pretty close while others feel very compressed. And I hate compression. In some ways the feel/response is more important than even the tone to me.
@TimLerchGuitar7 жыл бұрын
